IIT Prof's advice: 5 Non-Academic Things to Remember Before Going to College

IIT Prof's advice: 5 Non-Academic Things to Remember Before Going to College

Now, This was some quality content i just watched and could not help but share will my fellow people.
I have been to hostel in my class 12th, and i could relate many of it, still i would say it was helpful to remind me things and to not repeat certain mistakes in college life.

I watched this while i was dowloading a peak brainrot movie titled as MAIN HOON LUCKY THE RACER (RACE GURRAM) in the background.

Surely, the best 15 minutes spend in last couple of days.

Sir gave advise like a senior rather.
and the video was engaging even without any of editing effects and cheap tactics.

This my 2nd time posting about sir in this sub, But i will clarify, i am not into any promotion, it is just that i admire it so much, and this sub has been a family of mine, I shared it.

Sir talked about
Making friends, Extra curricular activities, health and many more in details.

I will recommend everyone who are going to join college
(any college, not necessarily IISERs)

How I am thinking to change the way of making notes, not beautiful, but useful ones, not complete, but enough points to extrapolate everything.

Because of competitive exams, i never got the chance (or never dared) to experiment note taking

i realised most of the times i am just copying what the teaching is feeding, and missing even a word will result in a tragedy.

Only to never open the notes again and only rely on the short notes.

I am thinking of experimenting new methods of note taking, but, for that i have to find a way to get rid of the fear of missing something, i could acquire through traditional note making.

also, in prep days, we usually are spoon fed and hence we(most of us) never read the real material.

we are too dependant on notes.

i will say, in JEE/NEET and any similar competitive exam prep, the notes are overhyped and it makes people handicapped.

I will experiment and try new ideas of note making

i have seen one method used by Ashish Arora sir of physics galaxy

He calls that as Spidy notes, where he writes only keywords and later recalls the entire thing using them as plot points.

I find it quite good, because many will say, those won't help when you open the notes after long time.

But that is the problem this thing handles, you need to revise them within a particular days in periodic motion, and when we make notes with everything, it gives us a sense of relaxness which makes us lazy, the way online recorded lecture makes us lazy and we pile up backlogs.

A goldmine channel for Guidance

Hello IATtards, It has been so long since i have posted something, and i wanted to share a channel useful for both aspirants and students.

So, the channel name is JC
this is a YT Channel run by IIT KGP Prof. Jeevanjyoti Chakraborty.

I have been following him since the very initial days of my preparation, and he is worth subscribing.
He put very sober videos, Not any clickbait or attention grabbing videos.

His videos are basically very unbiased, and truly useful guidance videos, which you need in this toxic days of competition.

and you don't have to forget him when you join college.
He will become even more helpful, once you join college.

I was so worried, about how i will manage things, and then i realised, i have subscribed him and now i am watching his videos.

He also puts out some blogs occasionally, which are also good.

You guys must check him out.
He is like order in the chaos.

Those who took loans through PMVidyalaxmi, I need to talk with them as i have got an offer letter for IISER.

So, I have a lots of doubts regarding PM vidyalaxmi, so those who have ever taken their loans, please Comment and i will DM you, and ask doubts.

Here are some doubts that are coming to my mind right away.

- Where do they transfer money ?? to college or to Student.

- What do they cover ? Do they cover every expenses, or just the fees mentioned by institute.
- Do they cover mess fees ??

- What if i get a back in a semester ?

- Do they discount your interest interest wherever applicable, or do cashback ?

- Do they do delays in payment, and does that affect your life in academics ?

- Will they cover my first semester fee including the SAF amount i have already paid ?

Lastly, what are the common mistakes one does which must be avoided ?

Appreciation post for r/GOD_MAN_008, and his Google Meet sessions

So, I am here to tell people about the very famous person in this subreddit, Mr. u/God_man_008 .

The meeting was just called off, and it was very very insightful and inspiring.
Sir is a very experienced man with a youth mindset.
The only thing that made me disappointed is the number of people joining it, it was very less, not even 20 people.

Honestly, Last time, even I myself missed the meeting, because i could not arrange the Link in time, But after joining this time, i can say, it was worth the shot to join it.

I had a hard time convincing my parent to let me stay after 10pm, but the time paid off.

It was not just about cutoffs, but also a lot about Life and He even showed us how he pulls those impressing analysis.

I have nothing but appreciation for that fellow, and i want more people to join and ask questions.

He is a guy worth asking.

That's all, i think i should go to sleep, otherwise my parent will grill me.

IISER B Tuition fees

Okay, So when i saw the Fees structure of 2026-27, i was kind of confused.
I asked people my doubts, a senior told me that the fees for a batch are fixed once you get admission.
I was happy, but still there was an itch, especially because the tuition fee of Y20 and Y21 was too high compared to latter batches, which did not make sense, well if i was a bit smarter, i could have figured it out earlier, that those batches have completed their graduations.

Today, when i was thinking about calculating the total expenses i will have in IISER, so i thought to check IISERB structure, because they have a very detailed fees structure. And also they have officially stored the previous years' fees.

so the first one hour i spend trying to analyse them using AI, and it was repeating mistakes, so decided to take another 30 min and fill this table.

  1. That senior was right about the fact that tuition fees of your batch is fixed once you join.
  2. the high fee is actually the 1st year fees of that academic year, probably if you failed to graduate along with your batch.

This is only the tuition fees thing
next i will be posting the other things which are mentioned there, called as User fees
Note : i am not including the One time fees which the 1st year kids pay.

I was so worried before creating this table, so i am sure there must be someone who will need this.
if not, then great, everyone is smarted than me, and i have a lot to learn.

Fellow 3000-5000 OBC NCL rankers, How are you managing your backup.

See, i also fall in this category, and honestly, i can not be sure alone with the 2025 cutoff, see a lot of factors will decide the 2026 cutoffs, and NO, i am not here to discuss about the probably cutoff, as No prediction can give us better idea than round 1 results.

I am actually waiting for the round one too, and again, i am not here to predict the round one release date.

what i want to discuss is that, those who are not entirely sure about getting a seat, what are you doing, I am preparing the documents, but the thing is, what are you doing with your backup.
Like, my backup will be lost if i don't do anything before 19 July.

I just am waiting for round 1, but if they do too much delay, i am not sure what i shall do.

Fellow 26tards, not just from OBC, but every category, who are not much sure about cutoffs, and also have no backup or the backup will be lost, what you will do.

I am a 2nd dropper, so this thing is more crtical for me.

(INDEPENDENT+ non TRADITIONAL+ non FANCY )Quality content. On YouTube = Physics: Eduniti (Mohit Goenka Sir); Mathematics: Factorial Academy.

I followed Eduniti for 6 months and got 98 percentile in physics.

And found out the goldmine of Factorial Academy 7 days before the April attempt as a 2nd dropper, ao couldn't use much.

Guys, these people deserve quality Students.

I will say. They are the only ones, who don't teach in a traditional way, and make useful content.

Unlike Unplugged Sandal, who will teach you stories in the name of basics and feel.

How did the fees inflate in your IISER

So, i went through the Fees structures of the IISERs i have in the top 3, and as always, IISER Bhopal has given different tuition fees for each batch.

And i found out it has been rapidly inflating.

So, we can't just assume it to be the same every year, hence we can't multiply that into no. Of semesters.

How much should i expect it to increase, and what are the other expenses ?

What about mess fees ?

What is the usual cost of living, like on an average how much money is spent in a month, if i don't go out much.

Did you get a shock, when it increased, and messed with your budget, like the Education loans you had taken and all such and such.

I don't actually know how an education loan works,

Like, do they pay as much as you ask, or they pay as per the fees ?

Seniors, Please Help me regarding my dilemma in arranging my preference order.

Dear IISER Brothers and sisters
Please help me in arranging my preference order.

So first of all i am OBC and have "294X" rank

Before rank i was worried to even get Berhampur, and had accepted it whole heartedly, considering all those saying like all IISERs are same in BS and all those things people say.

OBC Cut-offs of 2025 Counselling (till round 8, i forgot to add round 9)

when i saw last year cutoffs, in my current rank as OBC one could get all IISERs Except Pune, considering that you stay in counselling till the very end.

Now i have some questions

1. does late admission or admission through later rounds have any impact ?
OR
does getting early admission has any advantage ?

2. Usually after the completing of which round they start their course ?
as i have heard, Berhampur had started the course far before the end of counselling, while it is expected from them to wait.

3. Let's forget the cutoff and ranking bs, apart from Location, what other factor should i consider.

(Don't tell me anything like, THE SPECIFICs I PREFER TO STUDY.
See, i am interested in science, and am free to explore, i am not a guy, who want to be an astrophysicists, just because, he liked cosmos, maybe he has not seen the terrifying mathematics included, maybe the Bio he used to hate all these time, is now an interesting subject.
So, i have decided nothing, I am letting myself free to explore.)

I am living very close to Berhampur, like 50 Km.

Even if it is not in the city, i know how to get things from Berhampur, So as per Location, nothing is better than Berhampur.

I am not afraid to go out of my state, but don't want to stay 2-3 days train time away from my home.

Bhopal(24 hrs) and Kolkata(12 hrs) are on close distance.

Man, I would love to go Berhampur Beach.

But, Somewhere in my mind, there is a voice saying, "Agar Bhopal Milega, to Berhampur kyon freeze karna?"

Now, I want you guys to help me here.

considering that i will get Berhampur in 3rd and 4th round, while Bhopal in later rounds, what are the pros and cons of Floating expecting to get Bhopal, and what are the pros and cons of Freezing Berhampur and join the college asap*.*

My hunch is the I have no problem with Berhampur, i would love to join it, but i don't want to regret later that i could be getting Bhopal and did not join that.

And, if Bhopal is better than Berhampur in some aspects, then i am eager to know them before taking any decisions.

Baaki, Weird Anjali ne ek kaafi Mature baat kahi thi, har IISER mein bacche almost same hi type ke hote hai, jyada se jyada kuch marks ya kuch questions ka farak hota hai, jo ki apart from preparation, various other factors pe depend karta hai, So it is not at all like ki so called Upper IISERs have a genius crowd, which is not in So called Lower IISERs.

Please help me.

okay, so mein preference order Kolkata, then Bhopal and then Berhampur rakhne jaa raha hun, as per my thought.

But, i would still want to hear you guys, as I will have option to freeze and float.

Is the stitch properly done, and how long will it take to heal. The surgeon said, i had something Per***** bleeding compared to others.

So, I'm 19M and i have all my wisdom teeth grown, but this one was a bit mispositioned and i was having regular infections from the past 8 months, the typical Medicine for pericoronitis only helped temporarily.

So, i had it removed today.

He gave 1 local Anesthesia, and it worked, but i was still feeling pain in my roots when he was pressing.

He gave another, same thing, then he told me to be patient and not to panic, i told him, it was genuinely painful.

He then asked me to bear the pain, and he assured me it will be soon.

Then he took out the tooth, and showed his colleagues that it's a full grown tooth, and they treasured it for students (it's an Govt. Medical college in india)

It took roughly an hour, and yes it was painful, as a point i was shivering, as the previous time he pressed i had to bear it too much.

But thankfully afterwards, it became easier and then he put the stiches.

His colleagues (junior) offered for assistance, but he denied, saying it's not something extraordinary.

That statement was relieving.

I was too scared before the surgery, but it didn't affect the procedure.

Well, it's bleeding in a low amount, i haven't taken anything other than liquid almond shake and Icecream.

I am thinking to take some arrowroot flour soup tonight.

But i am a bit worried about the stiches, as it seems he missed a major part, am i overthinking?

Also, how long will it take to heal.

Every passing Minute i feel a lump in the throat and i have swallow the mix of blood and saliva.

Is it totally fine.

It was a govt. Hospital, where we get free treatment, so they have many patients, so they're definitely experienced, but what if he might be in a hurry ?

Help me
