Possibly hot take. Companions shouldn't be important

Granted, this was a theme somewhat touched on in Moffat's era with the Doctor saying they've never met anyone who wasn't important before and many references to that idea, I'm not referring to that though, I mean a majority of the companions have been made too important, like becoming omnipotent, being part of a prophecy, being the parents of the Doctor's wife, being part of a time paradox throwing multiple incarnations of themselves across the Doctor's timestream, ect ect, I think Bill and Martha are close to what I'd prefer from a companion, someone who is shaped by being around the Doctor but not to the point of becoming a literal god like Rose. (I don't dislike the companions for this btw, it's just a repetitive story beat and it's more noticeable for me on rewatch)

Obviously they can be important to the plot. Like Belinda, she just wanted to go home, and that was a good premise for her story. Though with her, she was still shoehorned to become way too important by being forced to have the Doctor's baby and that ruined a lot of her character retroactively.

She really could've just stayed a normal person, not that her becoming important through the Doctor is bad, it's just how they did it. Really, the show needs to remember that the story can be something other than making the companions the most important thing in the universe. Including the Doctor, they're just both people traveling space and time and helping people along the way.

That's really the only reason they're important anyway, because they help people, not because they'll become god or are god for some other mcguffin reason.

What would be your hopes on a sequel? (image only slightly related)

After reading other people's thoughts, I can definitely see the writing issues, though I think some of the issues come from the characters. IE: >!Clark going insane too quick, or Mary not being a good Psychologist and feeding into his delusions rather than leading him out of them !<but I also think some of these are part of the theme of the story, and just weren't given enough time to flesh out. The movie did have a vibe of "we know what you're really here for" as well, so maybe some things weren't given time to give the Backrooms themselves more time. But these can be fixed with writing/editing anyway, so for me it doesn't totally ruin the film.

Kane seems to be looking for a new writer for a potential sequel too, so that is probably being resolved already.

For a sequel, while I'd love Async to get a bigger focus, I think it risks requiring new viewers of the series to watch a movie to get new Async lore, and while there is some new lore for Async in the movie, it's at least small enough you don't need to watch the entire thing to get that lore, and most of it can be gathered from other fans (if you don't mind minor spoilers anyway) but that new lore isn't so important that you need it. Maybe Async can just stay to a small role, to give fans of the series something to chew on, while the videos can give a bigger focus.

Other suggestions I've seen of later films being more in line of an anthology could allow them to stay separate, congruent, and not mandatory to watch. As long as Kane is directing, I think the vibe and feel of the Backrooms can be maintained through the series so that should hopefully be expected of future installments.

Either way, hoping for more VHS segments, maybe even more, from several perspectives, who knows.

I liked the finale, I just had issues with the editing

It really felt too much like two episodes stitched together, and obviously there's not a lot they could do about that, since Episode 9 was split off Episode 8 and was made as a new episode.

But I probably just went in expecting a more seamless transition between the episodes, so it ended up just feeling like several disclaimers, a recap, and an entire episode, all slapped together, so the jump between 8 and 9 felt weirdly jarring. Plus I really felt like the>!flashback scenes later on had way too much "static" in them, I just thought it didn't need as much glitchy-ness going on.!<

Also, (Major spoiler)>!Caine coming back really underminds the abstraction, I know it reveals a lot about the characters and lore as a result, but if you're going to have a character death be permanent, it's harder to have impact for it if another character comes back from the dead right after!<

But I still enjoyed it! These are just nitpicks, and in the end, it's basically the same as watching an episode of the show, but in the theaters, which was a nice experience, especially hearing people laughing at the jokes from Episode 8, before it turns more serious for Episode 9

Day 53 of adding a bucket to Kinger's head until Episode 9 Releases

So... turns out the cauldron was too heavy, and it caused all the buckets to fall off, but it is the last day, so I'll just leave it like this for now, and today's bucket is another popcorn bucket created for the theatrical release!

Going to see this movie tomorrow so, make sure nobody takes any of the buckets, they were curated carefully!

Would you want a movie DLC/Update for the game? [spoilerish]

So some spoilers about the movie here

The movie adds a whole new area that could be cool to see in the game, even as an easter egg where it's not on the map but you can still get there if you know how, but also a maintenance area in a crawl space, which could add a mechanic of having to go down there to restart the engine/retrieve the black-box for a different ending or something like that. Either way I think it'd be neat if it happened.

The Master and The Doctor should really meet out of order more often

After the Multi Master special for Capaldi's send off. I really started thinking that it would make more sense for the two time travelers to not meet in order, even though the show so far has shown them meeting sequentially regardless (besides the special), with River Song being one of the few other times I can think of The Doctor meeting time travelers in the wrong order. Should they do this more? (Assuming they don't overdo the Master again)

Also as an aside, is there any story potential in a pre-time war master returning?
