YTÜ Davutpaşa kampüsü çevresinde konaklama ve aylık yaşam masrafları

Merhaba herkese,

Transferring to Computer Engineering - How to / Is it Possible?

I received an email from METU today saying that I have a strong profile, but because I applied to a very competitive program, my chances of admission are limited. They also mentioned that they believe I would be a successful student at METU and provided me with a form to submit new program preferences.

If I'm admitted to a different program, would I be able to transfer later to Computer Engineering?

I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has gone through this process. Specifically:

  • Is transferring to Computer Engineering possible?
  • What are the requirements?
  • How difficult is it?
  • What factors does METU consider when evaluating transfer requests?

I'd really appreciate any information or personal experiences. Thanks!

Urgent Help Needed – TOEFL Registration Goes Straight to Payment Page Without Reviewing Details

Title: Urgent Help Needed – TOEFL Registration Goes Straight to Payment Page Without Reviewing Details

I'm trying to register for a TOEFL iBT test and I'm confused about how the ETS registration process works.

About a week ago, I selected a test date and started the registration process, but I didn't complete the payment. When I came back later, the test date was still in my cart. However, I couldn't review or confirm any registration details—I could only proceed directly to the payment page.

I cleared my cart and tried again today. The same thing happened. After selecting a test date and clicking "Next," I'm taken straight to the payment page without any opportunity to review or edit my registration information. I tested multiple available test dates and got the same result every time.

I'm hoping someone who has recently registered for the TOEFL can clarify:

  • Does ETS automatically use the personal information from your ETS account profile during registration?
  • Is there normally a step where you can review or fill in all registration details before payment?
  • Can an incomplete registration attempt affect future bookings?
  • How can I verify that my registration details are correct before paying if there is no review page? Or can I modify my details later after booking?

I've attached a screenshot of the page I'm taken to before payment.

Has anyone experienced this recently, or is this how the registration system normally works (doesn't ask about any info)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

EDIT: I emailed the TOEFL Support team and they didn't help me properly and told me to use the phone number. I called 3 times; no one answered and it was just an annoying recording. And as you all know, International calls are very expensive to make.

(Buraya portalda yer alan metni ekleyebilirsiniz.)

Has anyone shared their College Board credentials with Istanbul Technical University for SAT verification?

I’m applying as an international student to Istanbul Technical University (ITU), and the admissions portal is asking applicants to provide their College Board email address and password to verify SAT scores.

The portal states:

>

I’m concerned about sharing my login credentials. Has anyone here gone through this process and successfully completed their application?

Some questions I have:

  • Did you provide your College Board email and password?
  • Did the university actually log into your account?
  • What personal information can they see besides SAT scores?
  • Are there any risks involved in sharing these credentials?
  • Is there a way to minimize the risk (for example, changing the password before or after verification)?
  • Did you contact the university about alternative verification methods?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has personal experience with this process or knows how ITU handles SAT verification.

Thank you!

Is Turkey really a bad place to study for a bachelor's degree for someone considering moving to Europe/US for a master's? (International Student)

Title: Is Turkey really a bad place to study for a bachelor's degree for someone considering moving to Europe/US for a master's? (International Student)

Hello everyone.

For the past 4–5 months, whenever I've visited this subreddit, I've seen a lot of negative comments about studying in Turkey. People often say things like, "Why do you want to come here?", "You'll ruin your life", "Choose wisely", "It's not worth it", "It's too expensive", and so on.

So I'm wondering: is Turkey really like that, or is it just that the majority of people who spend time here happen to have negative opinions about the country?

I have some friends studying in Turkey, and they tell me that the education is still quite good. Of course, you can't compare every Turkish university to top universities in Europe (and it same everywhere, u cant compare weak universities of once country to top universities of another), but they say the universities still do their job. Nowadays, personal effort is often more important than the degree itself anyway.

Some of my friends study at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, while others study at Gebze Technical University and some elsewhere. They generally have positive things to say about their experiences, which is quite different from some of the comments I've read here about Gebze's Computer Engineering program. I've seen people claim that you'll take 7 years to graduate or end up without a job, among other things.

I've also heard people say that you need at least $1,000 or €1,000 per month to live a modest life in Istanbul, or around $700 in other cities. However, my friends in Istanbul live on budgets of around $500 or less per month. They don't stay in government dormitories either—they rent an apartment together, sharing the costs among four people, and they mostly cook and eat at home. So I think a lot of it depends on your lifestyle, right?

Of course, I understand that the 90,000 people in this subreddit don't represent the country's population of roughly 90 million. I also realize that many of the people who actively post here may have personal reasons for disliking Turkey.

That's why I'm asking: is this just another case of social media exaggerating things, or is there truth to what people are saying?

Please answer honestly.

International student in Turkey: braces costs and continuing treatment from another country?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to start my bachelor's degree in Turkey this September, but I'm not sure yet which city I'll end up in. It will most likely be Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, or Gebze.

I have some dental issues, including partially broken front teeth. Before they can be properly repaired, I need orthodontic treatment (braces).

I'm currently considering starting treatment in my home country because metal braces here usually cost around $1,000–1,200 USD for the entire treatment, including installation and follow-up appointments over 12 months or more. Since I still have about 2–3 months before moving to Turkey, I'd like to start as soon as possible.

I have a few questions:

  1. If I get braces in my home country and then move to Turkey, would Turkish orthodontists usually continue the treatment, or would they want to remove the braces and start over from scratch?
  2. What are the average and cheap prices for metal braces in Turkey, especially in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Gebze in USD?
  3. Do orthodontists usually require the full payment upfront, or is it common to pay in installments during treatment?
  4. Are there any discounts for university students, especially international students?
  5. Since my treatment is partly necessary due to damaged teeth and not only for cosmetic reasons, does that make any difference in pricing or treatment options?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with braces in Turkey or has transferred orthodontic treatment from another country.

Thank you very much!

Is Gebze technical University bad?

So I saw a few comments in reddit saying that computer engineering is trash at gebze technic, or that u would graduate in 7 years rather than 4, or if u are ok with a gpa less than 2.5 then yeah go to gebze technic ......
My question is that are these information true
like is it a very bad university and place to go?
What are my alternate options with 1430 SAT (750 Math), 7.5 IELTS, 99.62 avg. Want to study Comp Eng in English

EDIT: look at these comments in another post

I, like you, wrote last year saying "if it's tough, it's tough, bro, we'll do it," and I got a high GPA, no problem there, but the problem is that the difficulty of the department isn't really about learning something in the courses, it's completely artificial, stemming from the indifference, lack of planning, and egos of the professors. If my luck hadn't been good, my GPA could have crashed, that happened to some of my friends. Most of the department's professors and assistants are good for nothing but making students' lives difficult. They do things completely as they please, everything can change at any moment. In the 2nd year and later, your exam grades depend on the whims of ChatGPT , if you get a bad seed, you're 90% screwed. The professors don't even bother to read the exams.

or

Writing GTU computer engineering is a betrayal of your youth. The department takes 95 students a year. But it currently has 667 students. So the department takes an average of 7 years. Everyone who wins here wins by doing well in the YKS and it takes an average of 7 years. Unfortunately, the same people who distribute cotton candy and popcorn in the promotion and those who have their exam papers read to chatgptare the same people. If you get 70 or less on any of the exams, you are considered to have missed attendance and your school year is extended by 1 year. I recommend that those considering computer engineering thoroughly research GTU.

IELTS 7.5 with only 2 weeks prep — now I have 3 weeks for TOEFL. Best resources/channels?

Hey guys,

I’m completely new to TOEFL and don’t really know where to start.

For IELTS UKVI Academic, I only prepared for around 2 weeks and got an overall 7.5 band score. Most of my prep was just following a YouTube channel and practicing from their videos.

Now I need to take TOEFL, and I only have around 3 weeks left before the test.

I wanted to ask people here:

* What are the BEST TOEFL resources?

* Which YouTube channel is the most helpful for learning the format and strategies?

* Where should I practice Reading / Listening / Speaking / Writing?

* Which mock tests are actually close to the real exam?

* If you only had 3 weeks, what would you focus on?

Also, based on a 7.5 IELTS Academic score, what TOEFL score range do you think is realistic with proper prep?

Would appreciate any advice/resources/study plans a lot 🙏

Do nationality and school background affect Turkish admissions?

Hi everyone, I had a few questions about admissions for international students in Turkey, especially for top universities like ITU, METU, Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa, etc.

  1. Does nationality matter in admissions? I’m from a South Asian country, and I noticed that while there are students from my country studying in Turkey, there are very few (sometimes only 1–2 people in 10 years, or 0 students in some) in top universities like Istanbul Technical University (ITU) or Middle East Technical University (METU).

For example, I often see people saying Computer Engineering in top Turkish universities usually requires around a 1500 SAT score. My score is lower (1430 SAT with 750 Math) and 99.62 avg, so I’m wondering:

  • Do universities consider nationality/student quotas?
  • If a country has fewer applicants/students, can that slightly improve chances?
  • Or are admissions almost completely score-based?
  1. Does graduating from a Turkish Maarif Foundation school help? I studied at a school connected to the Turkish Maarif Foundation (Türkiye Maarif Vakfı). Since the foundation is closely connected with Turkey and operates Turkish schools abroad, I was wondering:
  • Does being a graduate of a Maarif school help in university admissions?
  • Do Turkish universities recognize or value that background in any way?
  • Could it give even a small advantage compared to other international applicants?
  1. Question about TR-YÖS scores I also noticed something interesting. People often say Istanbul University and Cerrahpaşa usually require around 450+ on the TR-YÖS exam, but one of my classmates got admitted with around 430 while having a high school average of about 90%.

Do universities sometimes place more importance on school background than TR-YÖS and SATscores? Or could there be other factors involved?

I’d really appreciate answers from current international students or anyone familiar with the admissions system. Thanks!
