[Discussion] Why is it so much easier to stay consistent with others than on your own?

I’ve noticed something about myself and I’m curious if anyone else relates. Whenever I try to build habits and goals on my own, I usually start motivated. 1st few days go ok, sometimes even a full week. But then I slowly going down without really realising it. Missing 1 day turns into a few, and before I know it I’ve basically stopped.

There’s no real consequence to skipping, so it’s easy to let it slide. Lately I tried something a bit different. Instead of focusing on getting more disciplined, I just made myself a bit more "visible" to other people. I set 1 simple weekly goal and checked in daily with a small squad.

The goal itself didn't changed at all, but somehow it felt easier to stick to. I think just knowing that other people would notice if I didn’t show up made a bigger difference than I expected. it got me thinking that maybe consistency isn’t just about willpower. Maybe it’s more about the environment you’re in.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you find it easier to stay consistent when other people are involved, or do you prefer doing things on your own?

[Story] I kept restarting every Monday until I changed.

For a long time I thought I just lacked discipline: I’d set goals, feel good about it for a few days, then slowly fall off without really noticing. By the end of the week I’d already be thinking "alright, next Monday I’ll do it properly."

Same cycle over and over again. What actually changed things wasn’t getting motivated or some new system. I ended up being part of a small squad where we each picked 1 simple goal for the week and checked in every day. Just showing up and saying you did it.

The weird part is that the goal itself didn’t change at all. But it was that I wasn’t invisible anymore. if I didn’t show up, it wasn’t just me brushing it off, other people noticed.

That alone made me stick to things way more than anything I’d tried before. It kind of made me realise that maybe it’s not really about willpower. Maybe it’s just really hard to stay consistent when no one sees what you’re doing.

Accountability partners - small squads

People say they want accountability, then disappear after a week.

What’s been working for me is simple:

- set a weekly goal (fitness / study / work / screen time / habits / etc.)
- check in daily with proof
- they notice if you don’t show up

No motivation, just showing up.

If you’re trying to stay consistent too, DM me.
