When selecting a jury do you hope/not hope that a potential juror is a true crime nut?

I’ve been following the Lindsay Clancy case and I tend to binge various legal YouTubers because I find the legal process fascinating. I then jump online and see people
speculating and passing around really poorly thought out analysis.

So that brings me to my question. When you are selecting a jury, do you want a jury with people who really like to follow true crime and who may or may not have a better/worse understanding of the process; or do you look for people who couldn’t care less about true crime entertainment?

Could Isaac Newton have made the logical leap that Einstein did with relativity during his lifetime?

I’m watching Oppenheimer and my mind is wandering a bit because the movie is losing me somewhat. I remember reading a book by Bill Bryson called “A Brief History of Nearly Everything” about a decade ago. What came to my mind were parallel chapters: one about Isaac Newton and one about Albert Einstein. The first, about how Newton came up with a new math (calculus) to explain the orbits of stars and thus the impact Gravity ultimately has on the Universe. I know that narrative is challenged, that Newton didn’t invent it on his own, but let’s put that aside for a second and give him his law of Universal Gravitation and the inverse-square law and go to Einstein. In the Einstein chapter, Bryson basically gushes about how the General Theory of Relativity was a thought that came out of seemingly nowhere.

Now here’s the thing that has me thinking. Put aside the strict distrust that the Church had and its influence during Newton’s time and give him fiat to have all his own thoughts. Could Newton have logically come to understand Relativity as we know it (or as it was understood during Einstein’s lifetime) using the knowledge that he has accumulated, or would he need the two centuries between them to arrive at the theory? We know Newton spent his time thinking about all sorts of things (like “alchemy”, which…apparently we can now do thanks to the LHC) but if he stuck on gravity, could he have arrived at the revision of his own law of Universal Gravitation and add the other geometries to come to Relativity?

I know that looking at it from our side of history, it doesn’t seem to be that big a leap; but when i put myself in the concrete mindset of Newton, it’s difficult to imagine the extra dimensions that relativity requires. I can’t see how he could up with it. I can’t see how Einstein came up with it for that matter anyway.

Sorry for my ramblings TL;dr…could Newton have revised his gravitational laws in his lifetime to align with Relativity based on the knowledge he possessed?

Can someone explain to me how flock cameras are legal?

Hi all. The more I read about flock and their software capabilities, the more I am concerned about the violation of civil rights. Already Flock has issued statements that they have put in place “safeguards” to ensure that queries to their databases require case numbers and can only be used for limited purposes, but in the same breath they pointed out that LEO’s have been terminated for accessing files not pertaining to cases (like stalking women…they mentioned that specifically) so we know there is already precedent that it has occurred. There is also mention that they have facial-recognition software that they have filed patents for but they say that they have not included “at this time.”

I know that we already mostly volunteer our tracking data to be tracked by our phones, but this database seems to be a massive overreach of legal authority of the state. Am I off base here? Are there any legal challenges going on against this surveillance? What options do the public have to legally fight this, as I see it, perceived overreach?

Is it more believable to think that Dominic Toretto flies a 60s charger to every location for each of the movies that he drives one or is it more plausible that he finds a 60s charger on each continent in each location and what is the financial implications of either choice

I’m watching the fast and the furious movies and I’m back to One again and this thought crossed my mind on how rare a 60s charger is and I’m sure that there are some nerds here that could help me figure this out which is the most implausible scenario here? And this is not taking in consideration every single stunt would absolutely wreck the frame of each of these cars. I’m just assuming in movie lore.

I just found my next song to work on, and I’m excited

So yes..Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” is overplayed. He has done so many different versions of it with so many different artists, but five minutes ago I just heard his duet with Andrea Bocelli (Perfect Symphony,) and I am now on a mission. I haven’t stretched my vocal degree in over 20 years so now I’m going to brush up on my Italian diction. It is such a great language to sing in with the strong consonants and how every vowel sound is voiced…it just flows, is so emotive and passionate. “Perfect” is, pun intended, perfect for the translation. The song pushes me at the top of my range, but I think I can work it instead of resorting to transposing down a half step. I used to have a solid B4, but not singing for a while (and COVID) has me in an untrained shape. But I think I can have a vocal Rocky montage and get back into fighting shape.

I have the most insufferable person taking to me right now.

He’s been here for almost 49 minutes. Dude is the best at everything. He’s the best golfer, Calloway made him custom clubs. He’s the best pitcher ever in baseball. He is the best pilot. He knows everyone.

So I’m sitting here listening to him, I’ve been answering emails, and now live texting this as he talks…and he is just taking and talking.

You have an egg and must protect it

You have an egg. It is a normal chicken egg that won’t go rotten but is as physically fragile as a normal egg. You must keep the egg in one of your hands and you must not lay it down. You may not devise any sort of device to keep the egg in your hand or keep your hand closed. For every minute you hold the egg, you get $1 USD untaxable. If the egg cracks or leaves your grasp in anyway other than to switch hands, the money stops flowing, but you get to keep the money you earn. Once a week you can buy up to 8 hours at $1.60 per minute where you can lay it down. The time you take has to be taken in a single block, it doesn’t have to be a full 8 hours and you can’t bank your time.

Would you take the deal and if so, how long do you think you could do it?

Edit: forgot to add what you were buying. You get to buy time to lay the egg down.

Can a YouTube video be used as an Amicus Brief?

I just watched Legal Eagle’s video on the Utah Judges TRO against Reckless Ben and Bricks and mini figs. It seems to me that the court severely overreached after an ex parte meeting and order. He does a good job of breaking down how the order is needlessly broad and seemingly violates constitutional protections.

Could Legal Eagles’ video be used in this instance to test judicial overreach and have the issue reviewed? It seems like Judge Graff is a little out of his lane here and regardless of this issue does it raise concerns that he may issue orders in the future that seemingly go well past the authority that he gets according to the constitution?

After the Verdict and sentencing, do judges still editorialize their opinions?

On TV you see very emotional scenes where judges will add their two cents about what they think of the crime, what they think of the defendant? And have you ever heard a judge say “and may god have mercy on your soul?”

Also…can a judges statement at that time be used as grounds for appeal?

You are given a pill that makes you make the correct life choice in any situation.

A billionaire comes to you and says that they can help you in your life. You take this pill and from this point forward you will make the correct life choice. You will make the right health choices, the right financial decisions, and any conversation you have you will say just the right thing. Your life will improve because of this.

But this will happen despite what you want to do. You don’t want to go work out? Tough, you do anyway. Want to talk to the hot girl at the bar? You don’t because being with her would cause far too much drama in your life. The pill doesn’t remove the urges or helps your mind gain discipline in anyway…it just compels you to act in the responsible way.

Do you take the pill?

There is nothing more satisfying than popping a pimple

Buckle up, folks.

I’ve always liked popping pimples and ingrown hairs. There is something so satisfying about it, but rarely do I get the pimples that are most satisfying. The best ones are the ones that form in the crease between you leg, or the ones in the peritoneal area. I don’t get these often…perhaps once every couple of years. I had one tonight that I had just became aware of, it was mildly uncomfortable over the last few days but it was so far under formed that trying to pop it would cause great pain. Tonight, however was the night.

I could feel the capsule just under the surface and with the first squeeze it broke the surface but didn’t quite come out all the way. I changed grip and slowly pinched and felt a noticeable pop. That’s the best part. The pimple capsule popped out and I was able to vacate it. It felt so good to get rid of. I washed and used an anti-microbial cream. And now I’m here feeling satisfied and accomplished.

To be clear, this isn’t anything sexual or kinky…it’s not that kind of gratification. It’s more like the feeling of having the perfect bowel movement, or pulling off dead skin after a sunburn. Sure it’s gross…but that’s why this is an off my chest situation. It’s weird, but so satisfying.

I need help figuring out how to get back on track

I went through a divorce a few years back and I have been behind the 8-ball ever since then. I should make a good living, but between child support and less than stellar asset management I am about to implode. I don’t know where to start. I know that there are groups out there that help, but I don’t know enough about it to know who to go to. I’m not asking for anything that would violate the rules here in the thread…but rather a roadmap on how to find a way out.

In your time practicing law, have you ever seen a non-law practicing pro-se defendant ever mount an effective self defense?

Your honor, I’m appearing under special appearance in the court on behalf of the trust.

I have been watching a ton of YouTube videos where either sovereign citizens or some other knucklehead that watched an episode and a half of Law and Order gets up and tries to argue on their behalf. Sometimes I think it’s just a tactic to make things so painful and complicated and waste the time of the court in order to try and get things dismissed because who wants to spend time with crazy; but other times I think that people think they really can just logic out proceedings without spending time reading the law about procedure and admitting evidence. But it begs a question for me: has anyone ever been effective at it?

The Love Witch 2016

I wish there were more movies made like this. It faithfully replicates the pulp movie sexploitation style of the 1960’s and 1970’s down to the “Vaseline on the lens” cinematography. If it wasn’t for some scenes that show modern technology, I would have thought it was the original.

There is something about this type of movie with just an ambient soundtrack, stage-like blocking, a wild overly melo-dramatic story and a busy set. This movie would be lampooned on MST3k if there wasn’t so much nudity. I enjoy this dynamic, while it is internally serious the production is intended to be over the top soap operatic and tongue in cheek.

Jamie Lee Curtis deserves all the awards. If there aren’t enough awards out there, we need to go into the back and just make some more to give her. Seriously, I’m watching s3:8 right now and she is absolutely incredible.
