PrEP, RNA Testing, and the Window Period

Hi everyone! I had a quick question. I was reading recently that the CDC now recommends RNA testing in addition to a fourth-generation test at quarterly PrEP appointments. While I was looking some things up, I stumbled upon information suggesting that, if you have a breakthrough infection while taking PrEP, it can also delay the detectability of HIV RNA. I didn’t think PrEP affected the RNA test at all, unless that is new information. Does anyone have more information to share?

RNA Window Period on Truvada

What is this bug?

Located in Northwest Washington, United States. It was on my azalea bush. It froze as soon as it saw me.

Illuma-Lids

If you use Illuma-Lids, how do you clean them? I first tried distilled water, and it removed some of the soot, but not all of it. Then I used rubbing alcohol, and that worked really well. However, I'm not sure how it might affect them over the long term. What do you use? What do you think is the safest and most effective way to clean them?

Blood and Intercourse

Hey everyone. So I hooked up with this guy and when I went to remove the condom I noticed there was blood on it. I don’t think the condom broke, but I can’t be 100%. I‘ve been on daily PrEP for a year with 100% adherence. He also told me he was on PrEP as well although I didn’t ask to see his prescription. Should I be worried? Sorry if this seems dramatic to you, but this is the first time something like this has happened to me. I use PrEP as an extra layer of protection because I have some anxiety around HIV, but I‘ve never knowingly encountered blood on my member before.

Rhododendron Help

Hi everyone! Can someone please help me with my rhododendron? It's an outdoor plant that gets an average of about 5 hours of sunlight per day. It looks like it's getting worse.

When I went to water it today, I noticed a decent number of small reddish-brown ants crawling around the base of the plant. Can ants do this to a rhododendron?

I've sprayed it with neem oil occasionally, but I have no idea if that will deter or kill the ants, or whatever they're trying to consume. The plant is a year old, and it's been doing pretty well. I'd hate to see it die.

If it is the ants, what's the most effective way to kill or deter them? I was reading about diatomaceous earth, but that was just from a quick Google search.

Thank you, everyone! I really appreciate any advice!

Lacking Bed Sheet Quality

What is going on with bed sheet quality lately? The last Threshold sheets I bought from Target had a ton of loose threads on the pillowcases and sheets, and the sewing on the elastic portion was uneven in spots. After that, I thought I would try the Hotel Style sheets from Walmart, but one of the pillowcases had a hole in it!

I'm having the worst luck with sheets. Does anyone know of a decent, affordable sheet set? I have a full-size bed, and I prefer 100% cotton sheets. I also prefer sheets that can be machine washed in warm water on a normal cycle, not a cold or gentle cycle.

Am I out of options if Target and Walmart don't suffice? I was contemplating Kohl's, but their selection is pretty limited. I've looked on Amazon as well, but they have a million options, and half the time they never mention the care instructions.

Maybe I'm a cheapskate, but is $100 for a sheet set ridiculous, or no? I don't necessarily mind paying more if the quality is there, but I think I draw the line at anything over $100.

Help me not feel crazy!

Floss Help

I prefer Reach Mint Waxed floss for about 90% of my teeth, but I have a few teeth that have had dental work done on them or have fillings, and for those I have to rely on the old-school Oral-B floss they sell everywhere. I used to buy it from Costco, but now it's that plasticky, micro-textured stuff that I can't stand.

I used to buy the store-brand versions from Fred Meyer (Kroger) and Walmart, and for a while they were similar to the old-school smooth Oral-B floss. Now they've switched to the same micro-textured crap as well!

Has anyone found anything similar to the smooth, flat Oral-B floss? I don't even care if I have to buy it online. I just need something smooth and flat so I can get into some of the really tight spaces where the Reach floss shreds.

I saw that Tom's of Maine makes something similar to the Oral-B floss, but I can't find it anywhere, and I was wondering if anyone has used it.

Yes, I also own a Waterpik, so please don't suggest that as an alternative. I use it occasionally, but I still love string floss.

New CDC Guidelines

Did anyone notice that the updated CDC guidelines now recommend HIV antigen/antibody and HIV-1 RNA testing every 3 months at PrEP appointments? I wasn't aware of this change, and I'm planning to ask my doctor for an HIV-1 RNA test at my PrEP appointment tomorrow. However, I'm worried he'll judge me because I have severe, irrational anxiety about HIV. I'm wondering whether he'll even take my request seriously or try to persuade me that the test is unnecessary.

I take Truvada every day, but it's mostly because of my anxiety. I rarely, if ever, have unprotected sex. Anyway, I feel like this recommendation may be related, at least in part, to the delayed seroconversion phenomenon that can occur if someone happens to acquire HIV while taking PrEP.

I'm going to ask for the test regardless. I'll probably tell him that it's what the new CDC guidelines recommend, even though he'll likely think it's really because I'm worried I have HIV and am concerned about delayed seroconversion.

Has anyone's doctor started offering HIV-1 RNA testing as part of their routine PrEP appointments? It looks like the guidelines were updated in April of this year, so some doctors may not be aware of the change yet.

Eslick & Low Mailings

Hi everyone! I got this in the mail and I’m just trying to figure out how and why, but also the best way to get removed from the mailing list. It comes from both of their offices, and the P.O. Box is the general mailing list for the Washington State House of Representatives. I’m not trying to be political; I just hate being added to things without my consent, and I feel like this type of communication in 2026 is a waste of resources.

Hey all! I’m trying to get a general consensus on detergent dosing when using OxiClean. I have a front loader and soft water, and I’m washing a full-size sheet set. I usually use 1½ tablespoons of detergent. If I add 2 tablespoons of OxiClean to the wash, should I still use 1½ tablespoons of detergent, or scale back to 1 tablespoon?

I just want a general idea—I’m not sure if 1½ tablespoons of detergent would be too much or too little when using OxiClean as well. Thank you!

Total noob question here! I'm planning on signing up for the free account today, and I truly think 1 GB will be more than enough for me, but if it's not, am I able to upgrade at a later date to Mail Plus? Thank you!

Hey, so the email address I picked for my iCloud.com email address isn't my favorite. I was wondering if there was a way to change it to something else. I know it's 2026 so I'm hoping that's possible! Thank you!

Hi everyone! Last noob question, I promise! Is it okay to use OxiClean in the wash cycle and citric acid in the rinse cycle? I read somewhere that using them together would cancel each other out, but I’m assuming that meant using both in the wash cycle. I want to use OxiClean on my towels with a citric acid rinse. I plan to use FEBU when it’s back in stock. Thank you, everyone!
