Turned this today.
Hi All- Made this resin a while back and finally rough finished the pen today. When I have more time I will bring the final polish to it.
Check it out.

Hi all, I have a general love of pens. I have grail pens, bespoke kitless pens I make myself and many budget friendly pens. I love them all.
I recently ordered several pens from Ali Express and was pleasantly surprised. I wanted to share a few pictures and quick thoughts for anyone that is on the fence. Whether you are on a budget or just love pens, there are some incredible options to consider if you don’t mind a 2 week wait. Tariffs are included in the prices btw
I did put my own subjective grade based on overall impression inclusive of the price. Several of these I have already reordered for myself and gifts.
Hope this helps.
I had ordered a 20 or so of these flex nibs. They supposedly range from .4 to 2.0 which is nice line variation.
There were not many details about thread pattern and overall measurements for this nib and none of my tooling worked.
That led me to my 3d resin printer and some tinkering to build my own design from the ground up.
Since this nib also adds the complexity of being dropper filled, I wanted to eliminate one fail point which was the section. Instead of making a separate section, I designed this to have an integrated section /body design. The way to fill it is with the flat cap in the end of the body. I I estimate it will hold 5ml+ if I wanted to go crazy. There are gaskets and silicon greased the threads. No leaks but I may see if I can tighten the tolerances a bit more.
It is a first draft and I have a few more things to work out. I did refine shape and rough finish on the lathe.
Thanks for checking out my work in progress.
I had some left over resin and decided to mix up some fun neon pigments last minute.
Check it out. Has that 80s jelly bracelet vibe. 😎.
Under black light the pigment pops dramatically.
Bock nib.
Purchased for a great price from a highly rated seller in Japan and received the pre-owned pen in 1 week for a substantial discount (even with tax and shipping).
Here it is. Fine nib in remarkable condition.
Cheers.
What’s on your wrist today?
Hi All,
I wanted to share my most recent pen. It is a larger pen and I actually plan to keep this one. I am a tall guy and this pen feels good in my hand.
About the pen:
- Size is about the same as MB 149
- Jowo fine nib
- Resin: I really tried to capture the light shift. It can look vermillion red with light black veining. But the red is semi transparent and there are ribbons of gold throughout. If I were to make a video of the pen moving under light the gold is hidden and Pops as light hits it the right way. Sorry- pretty excited about this resin. 😂
-Body thread length: I made this longer than I normally do because I travel and fly and I like the extra protection an extra turn provides. Again my personal pen.
I included a few of my other red pens. Some are very cheap and some are premium. There are 2 Urushi, 1 vintage waterman, 1 MB Ferrari and so on. This is for scale and color reference.
Appreciate any criticism or feedback. I am not selling my pens but I do aim to improve.
Cheers.
Hi all,
I want to make a blank with 3d printed design inside the resin pour. This will be for a kitless turned pen.
I have the ability FDM and Resin print.
My questions are:
Note- have Bambu H2C, Bambu X1c, Saturn 4 16k and Heygears reflex rs turbo. I have almost every resin and filament on hand.
Ty.
Hi All,
I have a couple projects in mind for printing clear resin with detailed negative space. A super simple example would be hollow hourglass in clear resin. A more complex example would be a cut away of watch with gears….
I have Saturn 4k ultra 16k and Heygears RS turbo on hand for my resin printers.
Anyone have any tried tested work flows or links for places to read up. I thought I would ask before I started trial and error and waste unnecessary print hours and resin.
Ty.
I have not inked it yet but thought I would share my new kit.
Cheers.
It is such a fun pen and reasonably priced. Anyone else have one?
Finally arrived after a very long wait in kickstarter fulfillment.
It is a very nice watch and I might buy another color way if they go live with full resale.
Cheers.
Hi All, here are few I rough shaped and finished caps and bodies. I need to make the sections and do final finish work but wanted to share my progress.
After about 25 under my belt, things are getting easier and more predictable but still far from the art many on here put out. One day ..😄
Oyster shell theme with ribbons of black and interference pigment
Pearl with a few playful inserts of gold, burgundy and silver.
Blue , pearl and purple pen with some translucent pigment pours to add depth.
A deep pour demonstrator with some whimsical colors to be like wild flowers. At least that is what I had in my head. Clear pens are a paint.
Lava lamp deep resin poor clear pen. Repeating the pain of making clear pens. This one has a lot more work.
After collecting various fountain pens, including luxury, economical, and homemade ones, I decided to buy vintage pens for variety.
Vintage pens can be incredibly valuable if you shop smart. For instance, a pen with an 18k nib can be found for under $100, which is unusual.
I also love the vintage proportions and fine nib of this pen, making it a perfect daily use pen and a relative bargain. I included my MB149 for scale. I’m glad to have found another rabbit hole.
Cheers.
Hi All,
I had ordered the reflex 2 with all the bells and whistles plus different resins. About 4.5k$.
It was supposed to be delivered yesterday but showed delayed. No big deal right? Today I noticed that shipper had requested all items be returned to shipper. No communication no explanation.
I called and spoke with them 3 times and they very polite but unable to help.
Now all 3 orders and about 8 dif fed ex shipments are all on there way back to California. I verified that they had the correct address and that my payment went through to rule out any error on my behalf.
I cannot wrap my head around this experience. Any ideas? I am going to give them another 24 hours before I call my bank but hope it does not come to that.
Cheers.
I had a vision for a pen. I made a recipe and poured the blank and questioned what went wrong. I decided to turn a cap really quick and am so glad I did. I know that resin blanks turned down can transform but I am pretty happy with these blanks after all.
See blank and cap. I will finish the pen when I am actually home for more than 1 day. Work has been busy.
Cheers.
Hi All,
I have a large workspace (600sq/ft ish )in an unfinished portion of my basement(shop area). I have 2 very large hepa with charcoal filters and an air quality monitor.
I would really like to vent the VOCs outside my home but don’t want f up my home. What kind of tech do I call for this? HVAC? This section of the walkout basement is fully underground with no windows. I don’t want to create water or pest issues.
Ty.
After years of use out of my discontinued M5s pro , I decided to go for the Reflex 2 with the full kit. It will sit alongside my Bambu X1 carbon and H2S.
I am glad they finally opened their system to allow third party resins. I don’t print miniatures so this model is better suited to my needs.
Anyone else here have much experience with this model? Printing with 3rd party resins? Etc…
Cheers.
Hi All,
I have some more finishing work to do but this is all I have time for this weekend. Other projects and work need my attention 😄
Cheers
From left to right:
Opal type pen
90% black with hints of purple and pink
Best to just look at it. All the same pour but half clear cap with deep pour. Zoom in on this one. It is going to be very cool.
Shades of blue with gold/green
Transparent smoke with blue gold and pearl.
Japanese red/.brown ebonite
Bonus. My translucent summer flower pour. Just struggling with the internal polish but is cool.
If I can finish a couple that will be great. They are all rough
cut and ready for shaping and polishing.
