Clear resin printing - negative space detail?

Hi All,

I have a couple projects in mind for printing clear resin with detailed negative space. A super simple example would be hollow hourglass in clear resin. A more complex example would be a cut away of watch with gears….

I have Saturn 4k ultra 16k and Heygears RS turbo on hand for my resin printers.

Anyone have any tried tested work flows or links for places to read up. I thought I would ask before I started trial and error and waste unnecessary print hours and resin.

Struc Time- wandering hour

Finally arrived after a very long wait in kickstarter fulfillment.

It is a very nice watch and I might buy another color way if they go live with full resale.

Cheers.

Works in progress- 5 pens

Hi All, here are few I rough shaped and finished caps and bodies. I need to make the sections and do final finish work but wanted to share my progress.

After about 25 under my belt, things are getting easier and more predictable but still far from the art many on here put out. One day ..😄

  1. Oyster shell theme with ribbons of black and interference pigment

  2. Pearl with a few playful inserts of gold, burgundy and silver.

  3. Blue , pearl and purple pen with some translucent pigment pours to add depth.

  4. A deep pour demonstrator with some whimsical colors to be like wild flowers. At least that is what I had in my head. Clear pens are a paint.

  5. Lava lamp deep resin poor clear pen. Repeating the pain of making clear pens. This one has a lot more work.

Vintage Waterman 18k nib

After collecting various fountain pens, including luxury, economical, and homemade ones, I decided to buy vintage pens for variety.

Vintage pens can be incredibly valuable if you shop smart. For instance, a pen with an 18k nib can be found for under $100, which is unusual.

I also love the vintage proportions and fine nib of this pen, making it a perfect daily use pen and a relative bargain. I included my MB149 for scale. I’m glad to have found another rabbit hole.

Crazy Experience with Heygears

Hi All,

I had ordered the reflex 2 with all the bells and whistles plus different resins. About 4.5k$.

It was supposed to be delivered yesterday but showed delayed. No big deal right? Today I noticed that shipper had requested all items be returned to shipper. No communication no explanation.

I called and spoke with them 3 times and they very polite but unable to help.

Now all 3 orders and about 8 dif fed ex shipments are all on there way back to California. I verified that they had the correct address and that my payment went through to rule out any error on my behalf.

I cannot wrap my head around this experience. Any ideas? I am going to give them another 24 hours before I call my bank but hope it does not come to that.

Cheers.

New resin pour.

I had a vision for a pen. I made a recipe and poured the blank and questioned what went wrong. I decided to turn a cap really quick and am so glad I did. I know that resin blanks turned down can transform but I am pretty happy with these blanks after all.

See blank and cap. I will finish the pen when I am actually home for more than 1 day. Work has been busy.

Cheers.

VOC ventilation- who to call?

Hi All,
I have a large workspace (600sq/ft ish )in an unfinished portion of my basement(shop area). I have 2 very large hepa with charcoal filters and an air quality monitor.

I would really like to vent the VOCs outside my home but don’t want f up my home. What kind of tech do I call for this? HVAC? This section of the walkout basement is fully underground with no windows. I don’t want to create water or pest issues.

Ordered Reflex 2 with full kit

After years of use out of my discontinued M5s pro , I decided to go for the Reflex 2 with the full kit. It will sit alongside my Bambu X1 carbon and H2S.

I am glad they finally opened their system to allow third party resins. I don’t print miniatures so this model is better suited to my needs.

Anyone else here have much experience with this model? Printing with 3rd party resins? Etc…

Cheers.

Hi All,

  1. Opal /mop type pen poured with interference mica.

This weekends projects…

From left to right:

  1. Opal type pen

  2. 90% black with hints of purple and pink

  3. Best to just look at it. All the same pour but half clear cap with deep pour. Zoom in on this one. It is going to be very cool.

  4. Shades of blue with gold/green

  5. Transparent smoke with blue gold and pearl.

  6. Japanese red/.brown ebonite

  7. Bonus. My translucent summer flower pour. Just struggling with the internal polish but is cool.

If I can finish a couple that will be great. They are all rough

cut and ready for shaping and polishing.

Blank swap?

Hey fellow pen turners. I was thinking it might be cool to do a blank swap. We could exchange enough for a pen with some run off for safety.

Thoughts?

Also, does not have to be exclusively kitless involvement. Happy to share/exchange a blank i haveafe with kit pen builders.
