[0 YoE, Unemployed, Game Developer, United States]
I'm a fresh graduate and I'm not really getting any bites for my resume. I'm specialized in game design (and is the ultimate goal) but I'm also aiming for careers where the skillset would be applicable to it it (software dev, IT, etc.). That said I'm no longer happy with this resume or how it's laid out. I acknowledge that I have little professional experience but even so, how would I go about editing this to catch the eye of employers better?
Do employers check your application and degree thoroughly?
So I've been graduated for a year and have yet to get a professional job anywhere. I have a BA in Digital Media which, as far as I studied, is a degree that focused in software programming, game design, sound design, that sort of thing. I say as much on my resume but I'm starting to get concerned that "Digital Media" is so vague and non-indicative of my skill set that employers think I'm totally unqualified for these positions.
Which brings me to my question. Are employers thoroughly looking at resumes and degrees to see what I'm actually qualified to do or are they just looking at the degree name and making an assumption?
Also: I do send portfolios when asked but these jobs rarely ask for them.
