Weekend F - Diabolical As Ever
The F usually waits for an A or C at Jay. Today it pulled in just before an A. I hopped onto a mostly empty F, and as the Brooklyn-bound A’s doors opened, a flood of people poured off and rushed the platform. The F did not reopen its doors. It just left. Next F: 18 minutes.
Then it gets better. Because of repair work this weekend, that same F skips ahead to 7th Ave. So if you’re trying to reach the Manhattan-bound platforms at Bergen, Carroll, Smith–9th, or 4th Ave, your only move is to catch a Manhattan-bound F from 7th, or transfer to one the moment your train pulls in.
We pull into 7th Ave, and sure enough there’s a Manhattan-bound F on the local track right across the platform. Everyone on my train is GEARED for it. It leaves. Next Manhattan bound F: 23 minutes.
I got off at 7th so I was fine, but come on, MTA. What are we doing here? Keep the flow of people moving. Now you’ve got a platform full of people waiting 23 minutes when that train could’ve held 15 seconds for the transfer. If you’re going to close station access with no shuttle alternative, at least put in the effort to make sure people can still get where they’re going.
