There is no way this is a real voice line in Legacy of the Dark Knight 😂😂😂

This clip is from YouTuber Ruggedeagle where he breaksdown the Easter Eggs that can be found in Legacy of the Dark Knight. This game has a lot of them but this is probably my favorite since it's taking out the piss on the Rock.

I absolutely loathe and I mean LOATHE the current mainstream Superman insignia

Look, I love Superman and I love what current Superman media is doing with the character but that does not mean that I have to like this logo.

Even though MAWS started using this design first, let me rake on the DCU's use of it first cause what do you mean that the flagship hero of this new universe doesn't even use the iconic "S" that he's known for? The DCU is supposed to be the "definitive" take on the character for mainstream audiences and most audiences know Superman for his "S". Why would you want to change such an integral part of the character's branding especially for a new franchise you're starting up?

And if you're expecting people to just know that it's an "S", you're extremely overestimating just how good you think this design is. Dan Povenmire (Phineas and Ferb creator) made an excellent video last year showing that it's hella dumb to make the "S" part of the outline of the logo cause if you remove the yellow, then you're left with a red slash. And if you take out the red, then you're left with a plain yellow block.

Dan used this to point out that people are just reaching when they say the logo actually looks like an "S" by drawing other symbols on the logo and having it mean different things. You only know that it's supposed to be an "S" cause it just so happened to be in a Superman movie. Say what you will about the DCEU but even they kept the goddamn "S"!

Then we have My Adventures with Superman. I'm slightly more forgiving to this show using this symbol as it's clearly meant to be a smaller, alternate take on Superman so they don't need to go all in on his iconic stuff. However, the logo still suffers from having the body of the "S" attached to the logo's outline, making it look unnatural like the DCU's.

Season 3 does kind of fix this by adding yellow highlights to Superman's suit thus having yellow be the symbol's outline instead of red. The problem is that they over corrected by now unnecessarily adding yellow to other parts of him like his hands and boots.

And I know some of you are gonna come in here being like "durr but OP, the logo isn't supposed to be an 'S', it's supposed to be a symbol of hope or the mark of the house of El. Why would aliens design it to be an 'S'?" And I think you're missing the point. The symbol means something different to the people of Krypton but it also just so happened to look like an 'S' to us humans. Both things can be true at the same time.

And again, I know I'm gonna get some comic fans in here being like "Durr but OP, it's based off the Kingdom Come comic. The logo's been around for a while." Now look, I'm going to be the first to admit that I haven't read the Kingdom Come books. I'm sure it's a great story but that doesn't change the fact that the design is TRASH. The original S was iconic for a reason. Why are we fixing things that aren't broken?!?

To me, the logo looks incomplete. This would be like if Batman's symbol was a bat with no wings or Captain America's shield didn't have the stars. Some things need to just be there.

Now that it's been over a month since Legacy of the Dark Knight's release, how would you rank the Lego DC games?

Controversial take but it's one I will die by. Lego DC Supervillains basically had it all

Even as a Skywalker Saga truther, I think it's hard to deny just how balanced of a game DC Supervillains was. It did its best to capture all the loved features from the other mainline Lego games and came out with a near perfect formula. It was so good the next 3 games all tried to do something different.

Could Legacy of the Dark Knight function as a prequel to the original Lego Batman trilogy?

First off, let me just clarify that this is less of a fully-fledged out theory and more of a random shower thought that crossed my mind.

Second, I have not played Lego Batman 1 or Legacy of the Dark Knight, but I have seen the cutscenes from them. I say this because I am unaware of any extra details that may have been discovered through gameplay and I trust the people that have played those games to come forward with any information that may support or debunk this theory. I will also be playing by YouTuber Bd1p’s rules in that I am counting Lego DC Supervillains as canon to the trilogy AND I will not be taking the other games’ map layouts and character rosters/designs into account with the sole exception of the character bios in Lego Batman 1 and DC Supervillains. Only the story campaigns are being discussed here.

With that said, if we look at Legacy of the Dark Knight, it is a game that tells the story of Batman’s early years. We see his origin, his time with the League of Shadows, him raising Dick and of course his relationship to Talia. The main trilogy games focused on a well-established Batman who’s already part of the Justice League.

The biggest piece of evidence I have for this game connecting to the others is the villain cast. Most of the villains in LOTDK also feature in the main trilogy games such as Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Joker etc. However, if you notice, other villains are also missing from this game, most notably, Clayface and Harley Quinn. Now, while we do know that Harley will show up later in the DLC, the fact that she and Clayface aren’t here does at least give an indicator that there are still more Batman stories to tell that are many years in the making.

Joker is my strongest angle here. In Lego Batman 1, it’s explained in Joker’s bio that he was once the Red Hood who swam through a vat of acid to escape Batman and the same origin plays out here. The slight issue with this is that DC Supervillains does retcon this to say that Joker’s origins are unknown while the next DC game very clearly spells it out for us but given that this was a retcon pre-LOTDK, I think we can overlook that.

The next villain I’d like to touch on is Talia. Since Talia is shown to have escaped as the end of LOTDK, it does open up the possibility for her to return as a villain in the future and of course, play a role in Damian’s birth (the Robin in DC Supervillains).

This leads me to talking about the Robins. In LOTDK, Dick Grayson is our one and only Robin who later grows up to become Nightwing. The main Robin we see in the OG trilogy is Tim Drake which, if we are accepting these games as canon to each other, does mean that a significant amount of time passed in between LOTDK and Lego Batman 1 which fits in perfectly with the multiple year difference I suggested earlier.

Another detail to note is that in DC Supervillains, it is shown that Nightwing and Batgirl do work together when fighting crime which is something we also see in LOTDK.

However, in the name of fairness, while I do like this idea, there are also some gaping plot holes in it that I was able to pick up on even if I’m just drawing from the story.

For one, in DC Supervillains, it’s implied that Jim Gordon doesn’t know that Barbara is Batgirl despite that being a big reveal at the end of LOTDK. Killer Croc is also a villain who takes pleasure in his crimes and calamities in the OG trilogy while in LOTDK, he’s shown to be a lot more pitiful and sympathetic and just wants to be left alone.

This isn’t even addressing the biggest plot hole in that Ra’s al Ghul is ALIVE AND WELL in the timeline of the original trilogy. He gets his own focus level in DC Supervillains and Batman interacts with him whereas in Legacy of the Dark Knight, Talia makes it very clear that Ra’s died in the fire and that she was doing all of that nonsense to honour his memory (yes, I know the Lazarus Pit could be a possibility as to why he returned but since none of the games bring it up, I’m not going to either).

With all that said and done, those are the reasons as to why I think Legacy of the Dark Knight could serve as a prequel to the original Lego Batman trilogy, thus connecting it to that universe and keeping it alive despite this game obviously being marketed as a reboot. Thoughts?
