What would your dream beat 'em up gaming setup look like?

For me, just one arcade cabinet with my Pandora Box and modern consoles connected to the 27"inch flat gaming monitor.

There was a time when I used to enjoy gaming on big screens, but I find standard-size gaming monitors better than big screens now.

Well, choices and opinions vary from person to person. 😇

Another important reason is that the standard size is best for retro beat 'em ups. The display for most games wasn't big then.

How much time do you spend on modern and retro video games?

During weekdays I hardly have time to play and enjoy video games. Yet, by the grace of God, sometimes I am able to spare some time for gaming.

During the weekends, I give 2 hours to any modern video game. Then, I take a break. In the evening, I again give 2 hrs (approximately) to retro video games. 😇

Do you remember this classic beat 'em up?

I didn't play it much in arcades then. For me, it isn't one of those beat 'em ups that have replayable value, but it is worth playing once in a while. Do you like playing this one? Any memories you wish to share? 😇

Let's kick it like old school | Aero Fighter 2

I have often mentioned this in my posts: most of the retro titles that I now enjoy on PS4, I already have in my Pandora Box. I enjoyed them there as well, but I always felt something was missing. It was TATE gameplay. Playing vertical shmups without TATE is like having a milkshake with no ice cream. I am sorry. That's the only comparison I could think of right now. Now, this retro is a vertical shoot 'em up. However, my Pandora Box version does not offer TATE gameplay. Therefore, I enjoy this title with the available 4:3 display. It's fine with me. In future, I might consider the PS4 arcade archive version. Until then, I am enjoying what I have.

There's some issue with OBS Studio after the recent update. I don't know why it is failing to record the gameplay from Pandora Box now. It used to work fine before the update. This is why I recorded myself playing the game. 😇

I know my gaming setup is quite unorganised at the moment. It is simply because I am working on my gaming room nowadays. Therefore, I recorded the video with the resources available at the moment. I know my setup isn't as good as the setup of others. By the grace of God, it would look good soon. 🙏

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Weapon | Modded Version) | It's cool!

I posted about this classic beat 'em up a few days ago, and I was happy to meet the fandom of this beat 'em up. I promised a friend here that I'd post the clip of the modded version of this game, i.e., Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Weapon). The reason why I like this modded version more than the original is because the weapon with infinite ammo literally makes you invincible. The game then becomes more a run-and-gun than a beat 'em up. Now, some may not like this approach. That's fine with me. Choices and opinions vary from person to person. My aim is just enjoyment and unlimited entertainment. I respect the pro gamers and their achievements, but I don't aim to be one. I play video games only for entertainment.

There's some issue with the OBS Studio after the recent update. I don't know why it is failing to record the gameplay from Pandora Box now. It used to work fine before the update. This is why I recorded myself playing the game. 😇

I promised a mate here that I'll share the gameplay clip of the modded version of this game. This is for you u/Kitchen-Caterpillar8 . 🤝

Old School is Cool | Strikers 1945

Man, I played this game a lot in the arcades then. The best part was the shmup cabinets did not have many people around them. The shmups section was almost empty most of the time. The fighting and platform games sections were the most crowded. Well, this post isn't about the arcades then. I remember playing this gem at the arcades then but was able to finish it only once then. It felt so good to play and finish the game with favourable settings, and the best part was the TATE gameplay. Anyone who has read my posts before knows that I like TATE gameplay a lot. It really makes me feel that I am enjoying the game in a Japanese arcade. Arcades are everywhere, but there's definitely something unique about the Japanese arcades. Especially the shmup arcades. 😇

Give me a "hell yeah" if you used this hack to beat the bosses of most retro beat 'em ups.

I still do it to date. I corner the bosses and just keep beating them. There's no chance they can escape the merciless beating. However, not all retro beat 'em ups would let you use this hack.

I tested this hack on some modern beat 'em ups. It worked on some bosses but not all. Also, when industry learnt that gamers are familiar with this hack, they added an escape mechanism for the bosses. Well, that's fun too.

I learnt this hack from Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. A beat 'em up – I've been discussing a lot here lately.

Now, let's see how many hell yeah I receive on my post. 😇

Strikers 1945 III (a.k.a. Strikers 1999) | PS4 TATE Gameplay

By the grace of God, I bought Strikers 1945 I, II and III a few days ago. Why did I buy them? Well, I have highlighted the reason several times in my posts here. TATE gameplay. I own a Pandora Box, and it has ample retro games (especially shmups) that were sensational in arcades then. Yet, there's something missing. The Pandora Box version I own does not offer TATE (vertical) gameplay. I mean, the black bars on the sides of the vertical shmups are a big turn-off for me. Therefore, the PS4 ports of the retro titles are a blessing for gamers like me. I literally enjoyed every bit of the Strikers 1945 III. Playing vertical shmups in TATE format makes me feel as if I am playing the game in a Japanese arcade. Japanese arcades where the TATE gameplay originated. 🇯🇵🙇‍♂️😇

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs | What happened to me yesterday?

I don't know what happened to me yesterday. The moment I sat to play some video games, I realised that it had been weeks since I had switched on my Pandora Box and enjoyed some retro games on it. Therefore, I put my console controller to rest and switched on the Pandora Box. I wasn't able to decide which I should play because there are so many options in Pandora Box and most games are worth playing. After 5 minutes, I decided to kick it like old school. I asked myself the question, 'Which game would I play if this were the early 90s and I arrived at an arcade with a good amount of quarters in my pocket?' The answer was Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. My most favourite beat 'em-up to date. So, I selected the game, played it, finished it and really enjoyed it. After the first playthrough, I decided to have some fun. I selected the modded version of the title. It's called Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Weapon). With this one, the game ammo never finishes, and even pistols fire rockets. A machine gun is the best way to enjoy this game because with it, the game becomes more of a run-and-gun than a beat 'em up. The game is more fun this way because you're literally invincible with such guns. Now, some of you may not find the modded version equally enjoyable. That's fine with me. Choices and opinions vary person to person. For me video games are all about entertainment; such modded versions are the best form of entertainment for me. Then, I played another modded version of this title. It is called Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Crazy). In this one the number of enemies that spawn every second is higher than the number of enemies that spawn in the regular version of this title. The best part about this one is that bosses from the later stages too spawn with the other enemies. 😇

Added more to the collection | Thank you, God! 🙏

By the grace of God, I bought these titles, and I enjoyed almost every game in the arcade collection. I really enjoyed all the old school titles. I played them the way I played them in an arcade then. TATE gameplay is something I am fond of. I have highlighted this in my posts so many times. Strikers I, II and III are awesome. Sine Mora EX is good, but not easy. Yet, enjoyable. Now, the Toaplan Arcade Collection (Volume 1 & 2) – we all know how good it is. Now, let's hear your thoughts about my purchase. 😇

The old Sengoku games were awesome. Especially Sengoku 3! Therefore, I would be elated to learn that the Sengoku franchise is ready to return with a bang. Of course, then I'll wait for the teaser and the gameplay trailer later. 😇

Well, I grew up in an era when arcades were still a sensation. The beat 'em up that I enjoyed the most with my cousin was Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

Yes! There were other cool beat 'em ups, but this game in the arcade was the most enjoyable for me. Especially when I heard "Go! Go! Go!" I still enjoy playing it on my Pandora Box.

Which was your favourite beat 'em up then? 😇

I own a Pandora Box that lets me enjoy the retro beat 'em ups with the classic arcade-like feel, but for the modern beat 'em ups, I've to stick to the console at the moment. An arcade stick and setup are on my wish list, but at the moment, I have to enjoy the modern beat 'em ups on console. It isn't a bad experience, but the arcade-like experience is just next-level entertainment. Well, I grew up in the arcade era, and beat 'em-ups and fighting games were the soul of arcades. So, you know what I am talking about.

Till the time I do not have an arcade-like setup, I am enjoying the beat 'em ups with what I have. Once I have my dream setup ready, I'll relish both classic and modern beat 'em ups with the arcade-like feel. I really like it when I see gamers enjoying the modern beat 'em ups on either Arcade 1Up (customised) or other customised arcade cabinets. Now, let's hear what you have to say about this.😇

I only have one expectation. I want the titles to allow gamers to enjoy specific chapters after beating the story mode. I really like (crazy fan of Kratos) the GOW franchise, but the idea of going through the whole story again stops me. I mean, I've played the titles again, but sometimes I do not feel like going through the whole story again. I just wish to enjoy a specific stage or an encounter with a boss. Like the final fight with Ares in GOW I, the encounter with Kraken in GOW II, and every boss encounter in GOW III. However, I have to start from scratch again. Nothing against the ones who are happy to do that, but I don't like the idea of going through the story again. I am surprised that even Norse Saga doesn't allow gamers to enjoy specific chapters and encounters. Even when the two are modern titles. Multiple saves isn't a wise solution. Well, choices and opinions vary from person to person.

Let's hope my wish is granted by the developers. Now, let's hear your expectations. 😇

I started playing this shmup today. I like it. It's good. A little tricky but enjoyable. Have you played it? What are your thoughts about this shmup? 😇
