Bad rooster
I had to deal with an aggressive rooster causing harm to people yesterday and I just so happened to have my suppressed 300 blackout with hollow point subs. I don’t expect much but I would expect a single shot from this to kill a rooster regardless of shot placement, as long as it’s somewhere close to center mass. This had to chase the rooster off from everyone and he started acting crazy and went into some pretty thick woods. I still thought I had a decent shot (10 yards maybe but behind bushes and limbs) so I took it and…..he basically jumped and then took off left. Looked around for twenty minutes and found him sitting still and for sure injured so I went ahead and took a clear shot (center mass) and that did it but not as quick as I thought so i hit him one more time and that was instant. I’m not a hunter so maybe this is all normal, maybe my first shot I shouldn’t have took and I could’ve not hit him where I thought, but I’m definitely underwhelmed by 300 blackout. I know it’s not a super powerful round but I expected more, especially when dealing with a chicken.
My last shots were clear but it was in an area in the woods where I couldn’t get to at the time so I left him for the scavengers. I would’ve loved to have seen where he was hit. Just wondering what the experienced hunters think about this. I’d expect a rooster to die a lot faster but I could’ve had some extra nerves since I’m not use to hunting. No way to tell now unfortunately.
Edit- sorry guys I suck at writing. I know for sure my first shot was a little lower than center mass. Probably a couple inches but I still figured that shot would drop him with what I was shooting with.
