Does people get internships, like in 2nd or 3rd year?

So, basically I will be joining iiit k cse this year and the fees are pretty high, so I was thinking, if I can get an internship then i can help my parents feel less of a burden, so if there is any senior who got internships, please do tell me.

And of course I will work hard to get one

1st year student wanting to apply for iitb research internship. what should my CV/profile look like by the time I apply? Like what are the must things that should be there

Hey everyone! I'm a 1st year btech student and I really want to do the IITb research internship research internship at IIT Bombay). I've been going through the portal and I know the basic eligibility stuff, but I'd love to hear from people who've actually been through the process.

A few things I'm specifically confused about:

  1. CV / Application - What are the must-haves on the CV? Is it just CGPA + basic details, or do they actually expect projects, coursework highlights, or a GitHub? Does a strong research statement matter more than the CV itself?

  2. Research statement / SOP - Is this where the real selection happens? What makes a good one as a 1st/ 2nd year who hasn't done any prior research?

  3. What to do NOW as a 1st year - Should I be building projects, reading papers, doing online courses? What would genuinely strengthen my application over the next year?

Any advice from iitb research internship alumni or people who tried (even if rejected) would be super helpful. I really want to make the most of this opportunity and not waste it on a weak application. Thanks in advance!
