Opinion time: ADA Hearing Assist

Of course I have my favorites, and my “nobody ever asks for hearing assist devices, so I technically have something connected so we stay in compliance” and the good old work horses.

But curious what you all use for hearing assist devices in your venues?

Update. I’m hunting around a closet that I haven’t finished organizing and find a ln older, but fully functional ComTek system with 31 receivers. Still legal, clean signal because literally no one uses 72-76 in the area (and I’m pretty far outside main town). Just need to buy new headphones and rechargeable batteries. I knew we had a transmitter, but the four packs that I found when I started were all tagged ‘bad’. Turns out they’re just fine, they were just set to the wrong channel/frequency.

Singing the music of the night…at 2am…whilst staring at the wall…

This one never gets old…like…

🤦🏻‍♂️ gee…I wonder why community theatre gets a bad rep.

Errant screws?!

It literally takes 30 seconds to sand a safety rail.

So did you all just give up?

No recent protests. No talk of fighting back against the constantly growing tyranny?. Just letting the Red Hat(e)s walk all over us. Apathy setting in?

What? Did everyone’s balls drop off?

How do we convince the city leadership to pull train service to Roseburg?

As I’m riding the train from Eugene to Portland, I’m watching state fly past and thinking of how convenient it would be if we had train service down to Roseburg.

Everyone loves to say that it’s too slow, or then you don’ have a car at your destination, or we don’t have the infrastructure. Or my favorite ‘it will bring in more unhoused people’. Most of said people are of a particular age that continually tells us to ‘suck it up’. Well, that’s my response to those ‘concerns’. Always looking for the quick or most convenient fix….sometimes it’s hard, and maybe we need the challenge.

And yes, I realize that it takes more than just the city leadership to get on board with an idea like this, but it has to start somewhere.

What’s your ‘totem’ that got you into tech?

This carabiner is what solidified my tech life. It’s been with me for 24 years. It wasn’t the start of the tech life, but it was the piece that told me that the life had chosen me.

Saw this in a clip today…

And can’t count how many times I’ve seen it IRL in the last three years…

Wandering in like they own the place?

Is anyone else dealing with the subculture of clients or, worse, friends of clients just wandering into a moving tables, chairs, just grabbing stuff because it’s sitting out, maybe for another event that is later in the day space and generally this feeling of entitlement of doing whatever they want?

I realize that this is going to be more prevalent in small towns. And I’m not looking for advice, I know how to deal with these people. I’m just looking for some solidarity that maybe I’m not the only one dealing with this crap.
