I've used the title theme to tell the story of Barbary Piracy

I know this is completely offtopic but I run a tourism page on instagram and have been doing reels on local history. Here in Portugal we got heavily affected by Barbary piracy for centuries and every town has stories of them. Now, I love Black Sails and the theme song by Bear Mcreary. It formed on my mind how perfect that song is to tell the story of the Pirates that have very little to do with Black Sails.

Hope you enjoy! Here's the link to it on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Da1N0PhNmGA/?igsh=ZXZiN3l2Njc3enIx

The Corrs and Mick Fleetwood - Toss the Feathers

One thing I love to go through is those bands that influenced the connection between Folk and Metal. To this effect I am unsure if many know of the band The Corrs. Their first album from 1995 included 6 rockalized Irish folk songs including Toss the Feathers.

Toss the Feathers became one of The Corrs main songs played on stage and what catapulted them to international stage in a place where so many bands of this genre sounded "the same" Toss the Feathers" differentiated the band on the international stage.

I remember very well watching the Unplugged version of this song on MTV Unplugged and loving this to the core in a time Folk Metal as a genre didn't even exist. This song passed on the radio and on the charts everywhere, an Irish Folk Song with rock instruments. I got no doubt it had it's hand in influencing many artists to do the same. :)

Funny enough 1995 is the same year Cruachan released their own debut album!

Ir a Concertos e Festivais Sozinho

One of my videos became "locally" viral on Instragram

I don't want to share it here as I don't want it to be seen as self-promotion.

Context: I'm running a tourism/local guide business in Alentejo, Portugal.

I asked the tourism office to do videos in the castle and the tower of Beja, The tallest medieval tower in Portugal.

It took me two months to get the best take, mainly because I wanted to avoid people in the castle and also because of wind as the Avata 2 would become sideways with cross winds and I wanted to do a slow shot of the tower itself

On my first day there I noticed there was a house next to the castle walls and a gate. This gate meant there was a hole in the house as a protection towards the gate. So I imediately thought of using it as an entrance into the castle. Fly as fast as possible near the ground and then slowly pan up with the tower in shot and fly up over the tower.

Adding to this I used the song from Lord of the Rings, - Riders of Rohan the final result was very well received by everyone.

This is a region deeply trying to be seen by tourism routes and I'm glad my video could help a bit in doing this.

If allowed I'll post here the instagram reel later.

Anyway just wanted to post here as some help me when I started flying with good tips on how to start. <3

EDIT: Sorry for the delay everyone I was out of Reddit most of the day! Here's the video: https://www.instagram.com/p/DYZOCRzNaHx/

EDIT 2: Since there's interest in the thought process here's a few more details.

I wanted to go at full speed near the ground and stop quiclkly making the dust from the ground raise with the wind from the drone just in front of the tower. But it's a somewhat busy spot and I was doing this alone so I was always trying to avoid people as much as possible with the drone flying.

You can see the hole on the yellow building, it's the white wall near the castle walls. I thought for a while doing a run through the walls then diving through the hole and out the tunnel into the courtyard but I was sometimes loosing signal and got scared.

An ideal line was coming from behind the wall into the hole, tunnel and courtyard but I was loosing signal again.

Lastly a funny coincidence, the woman coming out of the tower is a worker from the tourism department and she was doing a historical re-enactment that day. She is in custome and was a complete coincidence she was finishing her shift precisely when I was flying! :D

Tivemos hoje o seguinte post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualPT/comments/1t4nhbj/oque_diabos_se_passa_com_os_homens_hoje_em_dia/

https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualPT/comments/1qz5q1q/planos_de_domingo/

Obrigado!

Hi All!

First of all let me offer some background. I'm Portuguese but lived in your beautiful country 10 years between 2011 and 2021.

I too was affected by the housing crisis and was looking for a place to buy ever since the distant year of 2016. I like many suffered at the hands of landlords, both vulture funds and private landlords until I moved back to Portugal.

Thankfully I was able to save money and buy my own place one year after moving back.

But... the housing crisis in Portugal is now even worse than Ireland...

Today I saw a picture and it led me to write this here. This is a translation of a post I wrote in Portuguese a few months ago BUT it has all to do with Ireland given your fantastic Price Register.

So first of all the picture that prompt me to write to you today:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/1t3r1x2/comment/ojx351g/

A lone elderly man surrounded by apartments for sale in Porto, Portugal. He is the last resident trying to keep his place in such a situation!

Secondly the post I wrote translated:

Building more houses will not solve the housing crisis if limits are not placed on those who have the money to buy them in bulk.

This is happening a bit all over the Western world, not just in Portugal...

There needs to be control to prevent houses from being bought in “bulk”.

I saw this several times in Ireland, the country that before ours had the worst housing crisis in Europe.

But I’ll leave the proof here. Fortunately, the Irish state has a website where all house sales are recorded:
https://propertypriceregister.ie/

So... let’s look at the case of the Ard Patrick neighbourhood. When I lived there, it was a place I went to frequently because some colleagues lived there.

Now, in 2015, a good number of my colleagues were evicted because… the houses were going to be sold in bulk…

So what does the Price Register tell us?

https://propertypriceregister.ie/Website/npsra/PPR/npsra-ppr.nsf/PPR-By-Date&Start=1&Query=%5Bdt_execution_date%5D%3E=01/01/2015%20AND%20%5Bdt_execution_date%5D%3C01/01/2016%20AND%20(%5Baddress%5D=*Ard%20Patrick*%20OR%20%5Beircode%5D=Ard%20Patrick)%20AND%20%5Bdc_county%5D=Cork&County=Cork&Year=2015&StartMonth=&EndMonth=&Address=Ard%20Patrick

3-bed, 4-bed and 5-bed houses being sold at bargain prices.

Doubt it? Here are the house prices in the same neighbourhood sold in 2014:

https://propertypriceregister.ie/Website/npsra/PPR/npsra-ppr.nsf/PPR-By-Date&Start=1&Query=%5Bdt_execution_date%5D%3E=01/01/2014%20AND%20%5Bdt_execution_date%5D%3C01/01/2015%20AND%20(%5Baddress%5D=*Ard%20Patrick*%20OR%20%5Beircode%5D=Ard%20Patrick)%20AND%20%5Bdc_county%5D=Cork&County=Cork&Year=2014&StartMonth=&EndMonth=&Address=Ard%20Patrick

In other words, a “mere” discount of around 100 thousand euros per house, more or less...

But the trick isn’t just that. Then rents were increased and more people were put living in the rented houses...

And then in 2019, they were resold in bulk for more than double the purchase value:

https://propertypriceregister.ie/Website/npsra/PPR/npsra-ppr.nsf/PPR-By-Date&Start=1&Query=%5Bdt_execution_date%5D%3E=01/01/2019%20AND%20%5Bdt_execution_date%5D%3C01/01/2020%20AND%20(%5Baddress%5D=*Ard%20Patrick*%20OR%20%5Beircode%5D=Ard%20Patrick)%20AND%20%5Bdc_county%5D=Cork&County=Cork&Year=2019&StartMonth=&EndMonth=&Address=Ard%20Patrick

But let’s take number 20 as an example:

Google Street View location:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/tJbcT4yb4dJd25Zm9

Sold in bulk in 2015 for 88 thousand euros:
https://propertypriceregister.ie/website/npsra/ppr/npsra-ppr.nsf/eStampUNID/UNID-7D66DEBABA318B9780257F55004CEEB7?OpenDocument

Resold in bulk in 2019 for 101 thousand euros:
https://propertypriceregister.ie/website/npsra/ppr/npsra-ppr.nsf/eStampUNID/UNID-762FF13E490DA5E6802583D80047758A?OpenDocument

Finally sold individually in 2023 for 320 thousand euros:

https://propertypriceregister.ie/Website/npsra/PPR/npsra-ppr.nsf/eStampUNID/UNID-D8980B3650C5686480258A7600602AC1?OpenDocument

And of course it continued to be rented at increasingly higher market prices... It should be noted that bulk sales are a way to get around rent controls, which makes this even worse...

You can see other examples by following each house from 2015 onwards...

But worse than all of this is the developer selling the houses in bulk to an investor who then sells them at market price to the state for social housing. This was already happening in Ireland in 2018. And it is something that continues to happen...

So no, building more houses will not solve the problem. Putting a stop to those who buy entire buildings, as has been happening in Lisbon for almost a decade and is now starting to happen across Portugal, is what needs to be done.

Invest in housing for people... not for some investment fund...

You can build millions of houses, if those houses are bought by large funds, you still have the same problem.

I hope I’ve been clear..."

So I'm writing this here as it pertains to your housing market and your housing crisis which is also destroying my country.

I am hoping that we can get together and brainstorm ideas to curb this. I know in Ireland there has been cases of renters fighting against this and also in Spain.

You are not alone and we here in Portugal aren't either.

This was pinpointed here many times over the past few years. Glad to see The Infographic Show pinpointing how many bots are showing up in big subs with pretty much propaganda posts to stoke Culture Wars.

Yes this is one more reason to disconnect and become fully NoSurf.

If you see a post that keep in mind there's a high chance it's generated by AI. And the comments on it as well.
