OB/GYN and midwife suggestions near Longmont

Hi! I’m looking for a local OB/GYN and midwifery clinic near Longmont. I previously was going to UChealth Longs peak for my previous birth. I didn’t love going to such a large office with inconsistent care givers.

I’m looking for a smaller clinic that would be supportive of a future VBAC but still deliver in a hospital. I found “A Women’s place” in Fort Collins that sounded like exactly what I want, however, I don’t know if I’d like to drive that far. I’m not pregnant but would like to have an annual check up! Thanks in advance!

12 months pp

Hello! Looking for some advice. I am 5’ 3”. I was 157 lb before pregnancy but pretty active and 38.8% body fat. I wasn’t at my most fit but was content at my size.

During my pregnancy I gained almost 60 lbs. I am 12 months postpartum and have gotten down to 161 lbs and 40% body fat but have gotten stuck here for a couple months. I am so proud of myself for almost getting to pre-pregnancy weight purely by exercise and trying to eat healthy. I also want to add that I did have an unexpected c-section after 50ish hours of labor.

I stopped breastfeeding almost 2 weeks ago and have started tracking my food. I’d really like to loose about 30 lbs prior to getting pregnant again. Since about 10 weeks pp, I have been doing pilates twice a week which has helped. I am assuming this goal could be attainable in 7ish months.

I know walking is a great way to loose weight. How often would you suggest weight lifting? Currently trying to keep my calories around 1700 and am always trying to increase protein. Obviously - I have a little one and time is difficult to come by! Hoping to get some encouragement and helpful suggestions 😊

1 year after C-section and have some questions

I am 1 year pp - Yay! Recently, I have been deep diving into preparing my body for a second child eventually. I read my medical files from my birth and have so many questions. Does anyone have experience with finding a second opinion on how your birth went? I think it's key that I process what happened. Where do you go?

For context, I was induced at 41+3. I labored till the evening of 41+6 (received an epidural that morning and pushed for 4 hours). I had a c-section after that with no complications other than hemorrhaging and needing a blood transfusion the next day.

Some notes in my chart really offput me. For instance - it is noted that during labor and contractions they asked to break my water manually several times and I denied. In person - I remember being told that my baby had not progressed, there was no emergency at the time, but that her head was swelling and she had been stuck at -1 for 2 hrs. In the chart, there is no mention of this and that I had mentioned that I was tired and agreed to the c-section (this is true), however, I don't think I was fully given an option to rest a little before pushing. When I started pushing - they told me we were doing practice pushes and i wish we could have waited for my body to progress a bit longer. My water did break on it's own and they allowed me to progress until 10 CM before pushing.

My husband had a lot of trauma from my daughters birth and does not wish to go through that again. I however, still have the desire to try to have a vbac despite his desire for me to have a elective c-section. Obviously this is all hypothetical because I am not pregnant yet but it's so much to think about! At my 6 week pp visit - I asked my OB what the chances of me ever having a vaginal birth were and she told me that depended on the pregnancy. I had a large baby and she said that usually people who have large babies always have large babies. To me - a large baby does not mean that a vaginal birth is not attainable but that if my pelvis was small or there was an issue with my anatomy - that would be different. She did not mention anything about my anatomy or my daughters position being a problem.

Future Vbac

Hi! I had a C-section almost a year ago and am considering another child soon. The thought of having a VBAC ruminates my mind constantly. I have talked to my husband about his thoughts and because of his trauma regarding the first birth - he would prefer I have a scheduled c-section. For whatever reason the thought of having a vaginal birth is so desirable to me.

My story:
I had a relatively easy pregnancy except having carpel tunnel starting at 17 weeks. I did gain about 50 lbs and was very swollen with pitting edema in my legs in the last trimester.

I was induced at 41+3. When I went in - they asked if I had felt and contractions and I said no - she told me that I had contractions without any interventions) I labored with pitocin and citotec for about 34 hrs before my blood pressure spiked and chose an epidural with the thought that it would go down. It worked and sped up my dilation. 6 hrs later I was fully dilated and my water broke a few hours later. They did find a bit of meconium in the water. They had me start pushing and I pushed for 4 hrs. I don’t fully remember what station she was at (I think -2) but the OB said that she had stalled for 2 hrs and that her head was swelling. I was so tired at this point and scared that something bad was going to happen. The OB suggested a c-section but did not state that it was an emergency.

We proceeded with the c-section. She was born healthy and happy. She was in the 90th percentile in head size and weight (9lb 8 oz). I hemorrhaged 1.5 L of blood and needed a blood transfusion the following day.

Questions:
The questions I have are for the future. We haven’t decided on when we’d like another child. I’m 11 months PP and almost to pre-pregnancy weight which I consider about 10 lbs more than I’d like. My goal is to lose the 10 lbs before we have another. Here are my questions:

- Is there anything I should be doing now to help with the possibility of having a TOLAC for a future pregnancy?
- I’m curious if anyone has thought they had a misdiagnosed GD? I was 2 pts away from being diagnosed with GD at the 3 hr test (failed the 1 hr) and I’m wondering if I should have been. Would this have caused her to be so large?
- what are the pros and cons to having a TOLAC?

Early wake ups

I have an 11 month old and we have successfully sleep trained her for night time -we put her to sleep wide awake and she goes to sleep on her own, however, she still wakes up between 5 am and 6 am to nurse before going back to sleep for an hour or 2. She typically wakes up around 7/7:30 am. Shoes to bed between 7:30 and 8:30 depending on how much she napped and what we’re doing. Does anyone have any advice to get her to sleep through this? I’m also starting to wean her from nursing.

11 months old

I had a goal of weaning my daughter by 12 months. She’s 11 months old and goes to daycare and I usually pump 3 times a day while at work. She would get a bottle at 9,1, and 3:30. This last weekend and the weekend prior, I noticed that she would not nurse at 1 pm - skipped the entire feed. I have also been producing about 3 oz less than normal. So I removed that bottle from daycare and 1 pump session. I am barely pumping 5 oz this week and wondering if weaning off bottles during the day will happen quicker than what I thought. I don’t have a freezer supply and don’t want to introduce formula since we are so close to 1 yr and she eats solids well. I guess my question is, should I remove another bottle on Friday and decrease a pump session next week? If I stop producing during the day and have no milk to provide for daycare, will this be a problem? I feel like I’m losing my mind thinking about weaning her and being concerned that she won’t have milk during the day. It makes me so sad but I’m so ready to have my body and freedom back. I have offered her cows milk but she doesn’t want it/spits it out. I have decided to offer it in a straw cup to wean her from bottles but wondering if I should try introducing via the bottle and see if she takes to it that way - then transition to the straw cups?

Right now if I’m home all day she nurses at 5:30 am, 9 ish am, 2 or 3, and 7:30 (before bedtime routine). The mornings will be the hardest I think.

Any advice would be great!

(Questions) Sleep training my 10 month old

I am just so excited! Last week I was at my breaking point. My baby would wake up anywhere between 12 and 3 and would not go back to sleep for a few hours. Either wanting to play or screaming. Admittedly, I started a sleep association with nursing or being rocked. I thoroughly enjoyed this for a few months. She would also end up in our bed in the morning. The problem was that my husband and I were not getting enough sleep - we were grouchy and not functioning well. I had been against sleep training until I listened to a podcast that explained if you were to fall asleep in your bed but wake up in a bath tub - you’d also wake up screaming and have a hard time settling down. They also talked about crying being just a way of communicating - babies can’t talk so they scream - something’s out of the normal.

We decided to start Ferber method on Monday - when I would be gone at a Bible study. This was helpful since she had been consistently nursed and rocked to sleep. My husband did everything and he only had to do one check in. (He did mess up giving her a bottle at the end of the morning routine) she slept from 8 pm - 4:45 am, the longest stretch in months! I did end up giving her a “snooze feed” but did put her back in bed awake. She cried until I closed the door and went right back to sleep for another 2 hrs! She only napped about an hour during this day at 11:50 and an hour at 4:30

Tuesday she had a harder time since my husband and I were both there during bed time. She cried for 32 minutes, my husband did 3 check ins. She slept from 8:32 to 4:39 am, we let her cry for a little and I went in to feed her and let her sleep from 5 am to 7 am. She napped 3 hrs total this day with grandma. (2 naps 10 am and 4 pm)

Wednesday we started bed time at 6:50 with a bath - she had only napped 1 hr 20 minutes at daycare and 11:50 am. I nursed her before bath in a different location than her room. She was put to bed at 7:25 and was asleep by 7:31. Did not make it to a check in time! She slept till 3:59 - I let her cry for about 7 min, I went in to do my check and she had pooped. I changed her and put her back to bed she cried till 4:35 when I ended up feeding her. She cried until I closed the door and she went back to sleep till 7:20

Thursday she only had a 1 hr 20 min nap again at daycare at 12:50 pm. She was mostly content at night but also pretty tired. We had small group till about 8 and started bed time process at 8:10. She was put to bed at 8:29 and cried for 7 seconds before going to sleep. She slept till 4:59 - I let her fuss a little and went in to feed her. I put her back to bed where she laid there awake but not crying for a few minutes before falling asleep. She slept till 6:30 when she had pooped. We got her up for the day.

She’s doing so well and I’m so happy to have some long stretches of sleep! I was able to workout this morning after I put her back to bed 😊

Some questions I have:

- should I be concerned about how much she is sleeping during the day or will that balance out naturally?
- we are going on a vacation next weekend for 2 nights. Should we keep the Ferber method?
- middle of July we are going to have a babysitter put her to sleep in a different house (we will be staying at the house but going out that night) - should we have her do the Ferber method too?
- should grandma being doing the Ferber method during day time naps at her house? I don’t think she will be willing to listen to her cry

Edit: I ask about the naps because she comes home and is grumpy all evening.

10 month sleep train advice

My husband and I decided that we are going to try to do the Ferber method starting tonight. My daughter is 10.5 months. She has been refusing her morning nap and has been only taking one nap in the middle of the day so 4/6. She will nap for about an 1-1.5 hrs at daycare. At her grandmas though - she will nap for 1-2 hours first nap and 30-45 min second nap (3/3/4). I feel like each night is different and each day schedule is different.

We decided to start because I am honestly so tired of being the only one to be able to put my baby to sleep. In the last week - she has also been waking in the middle of the night and unable to fall asleep for 2 hrs (I have to cuddle her and hum twinkle twinkle little star). Unfortunately, I do nurse her to sleep right now which started out of desperation when she grew 6 teeth in a month. I’d like to sleep train her before I wean her from breastfeeding in about a month. She also seems to be constantly teething so I worry that the wake ups are because of pain but I can’t tell. Does anyone have any tips that are helpful or success stories?

Weaning from Breastfeeding

My baby is 10 months old. For the last month, I have been anticipating weaning from breastfeeding. My original goal was 1 year. I’m really looking forward to weaning for the added freedom. I’m exhausted from pumping at work and planning pumps when I want to go do something for day. As much as I look forward to it, I’m having a really hard time pulling the trigger. Everytime I think about offering formula instead of breastmilk just to see if she will take it - I can’t bring myself to do it! Im crushed that this will be the end of this part of infancy. I have really enjoyed breastfeeding. I feel so bonded to her and relaxed when she’s feeding. Currently, she does nurse to bed - it’s been the easiest way for me to get her down so bed time doesn’t take a million years. I really don’t enjoy pumping. I’m not sure what I’m trying to get out of this other than I have no idea what to do or where to start. I feel so close to the finish line but also feel so overwhelmed on how to end it.

VBAC for second?

I’m a FTM with a 10 month old. My pregnancy was seamless with only a couple parts that were frustrating. I had pregnancy induced carpal tunnel at around 16-20 weeks. I failed the first glucose test but passed the second. I was swollen the entire second half of my third trimester. Baby was measuring healthy.

I ended up being induced at 41+3 with citotec and a folley tube. I was in labor from Wednesday evening till Friday morning with citotec and pitocin around 4 am when my blood pressure started to spike - I ended up getting the epidural at that point. Around 11 am, my water broke on its own. And the nurses then had me start pushing at around noon (timing isn’t specific because I honestly don’t remember). I pushed for 4 hrs until the doctor came to check on me and I was advised to get a C-section - baby had stalled at -2 for 2 hrs and her head was swelling but not in distress. I went for the csection and ended up loosing 1.5 liters of blood. My baby was very healthy and 9.5 lbs. after my blood infusion the day after delivery, recovery has gone really well and I feel pretty normal!

My doctor told me at 6 weeks pp that because my baby stalled and the fact that she was so large, I probably won’t be a candidate for a Vbac. Part of me thinks that my body was not ready to push yet and this caused some stalling. I’ve also considered the fact that my body was exhausted at that time since I have been in labor for so long and without an epidural. BUT I’ll never know the reasons and that’s just what God had planned for us. Sometimes I’m okay with the idea of having another C-section but there is a part of me that wonders/wishes for a Vbac. I have seen friends who had a vaginal birth recover a lot faster and that is a dream to me.

I’m curious if anyone has a similar story, thoughts on a Vbac, when the best time would be to have a second child, is it better to have a C-section - what are the pros and cons? Are there ways to prepare prior to conceiving that would increase the odds? I have so many questions before we try for a second. I will obviously do my research and talk with my doctors before making my final decision.

Weaning

Looking for some insight on weaning by 11 months gradually. My baby is 9 months. My MIL turned her nose up when I said I was thinking about giving her formula for the last couple of months. I was wondering what the pros and cons are of this switch. Has anyone given their baby formula during the day and still nursed at night? What formula do you use? I’m just feeling lost on this process but have been feeling exhausted and over it for a few weeks. I’d love to play a round of golf without worrying about pumping 😂
