Hosts, what’s the most respectful way for a guest to cancel after receiving a hosting offer closer to the city they're travelling to?

I’m curious how hosts would prefer this situation to be handled. I messaged someone a few days ago but hadn’t heard back, so I reached out to someone else. The second person replied and offered to host me, but they live about 1.5 hours outside the city. A few minutes later, the first person got back to me and offered to host me right in the city.

Obviously, the second option is much more convenient for me, but I don’t want to be disrespectful to the person who already said yes. What would be the best way to tell them that I’ve decided to go with another host? Would you be offended if a guest did this, or is it just part of Couchsurfing?

I hope that this post indicates I am trying to do things the right way, I'll take your advice.

Happy with my hairline, but I struggle because the hairs always stick directly up.

It's been 2 years since my hair transplant and I get a little frustrated that my hair sticks up. If I put my hand on it and hold it down it will flick back up like a pin.

When it's longer it also doesn't go down, it sticks up at the base and curls back down. I am still struggling with finding a hairstyle that works for me.

Couchsurfing wants users to create content for free

Just received this email

EDIT: When you enter the form below you will see this disclosure "I give Couchsurfing permission to edit, share, and use this video across its website, app, social media channels, and marketing materials. I understand that Couchsurfing may edit the video for length, format, or clarity and understand that I won't receive compensation if my video is featured."

Couchsurfing Creator Program!

We're looking for Couchsurfers who love three things:

🌍 Travel

💙 Couchsurfing

📹 Creating fun, engaging videos

That's it.

It doesn't matter whether you have 100 followers or 100,000. We're not looking for influencers, we're looking for passionate Couchsurfers who know how to tell great stories and capture the spirit of our community.

This is just the first step, and it's intentionally low pressure.

We simply want to see the kind of content you enjoy creating.

You don't need to make a brand-new video for us.

You can send us a video you've already posted (or never posted!) that you're proud of and that reflects the kind of content you'd create as a Couchsurfing creator.

It could be:

A travel video you love

A favorite Couchsurfing story

A day-in-the-life while traveling

A funny or memorable Couchsurfing moment

A trending video with your own Couchsurfing twist

You interviewing a host, traveler, or friend

A travel tip or storytelling video

Or anything else that captures your personality, creativity, and love of travel and human connection.

If you'd rather make something brand new, we'd love to see that too!

There are no rules here: we're simply looking for people who make us think: "I'd watch more of this."

If it feels like the kind of content you'd be excited to create for Couchsurfing, it's probably exactly what we're looking for.

How to Submit

Upload your video here:

or email it to social@couchsurfing.com

Please include:

Your full name

Your Couchsurfing profile URL

Your social media handles

Where you currently live

If you're traveling now (or have an upcoming trip), let us know! We'd love to hear about it!

We can't wait to meet you and see your work.

We're excited to discover the first creators in the Couchsurfing Creator Program. 🧡

People complain about housing, why doesn't the government just build many houses in the empty space and sell them for a slight profit?

I understand that they also have to provide water and sewerage services, transport and infrastructure. But I don't know what I'm missing.

Starting to get suspicious that my portable charger (INIU Model BI-B6) is causing damage to my phone and cables?

It says OUTPUT: 4.5V=5A, 9V=2A, 12V=1.5A

Dont know what any of that means, but I have a Samsung S21.

So tired of people I meet saying they wont go to Australia because of "dangerous animals"

Living internationally as an australian theres one thing you hear more than anything else: "everything is trying to kill you in australia" and at first its funny little joke but theres people who have genuinely said to me "oh I can't go to australia because I dont like spiders" or "I don't like snakes" or "Im scared of dangerous animals"

Makes me want to pull my hair out at this point because its so crazy to me how opposite the reality is. Yes we have venomous snakes and spiders, but many countries in the world do too.

What's crazier is that in some countries you have to walk around with bear mace in case a bear comes out and mauls you. Or you have wild cats who can tear you yo shreds, or even all number of wild animals that will literally chase you down.

When I'm walking in the bush in australia, fear doesnt cross my mind for one second. Theres NOTHING that will jump out at you. Of course I'm not going to start wading through some shrubs in the middle of summer in thongs. But if I stomp my feet the snakes are going to run AWAY from me.

If you're standing next to am embankment im the north of australia and a crocodile gets you, that's not a dangerous animal coming for you. Thats you feeding yourself to a crocodile.

I think people should start pushing back on those who say "everything trying to kill you in australia" because im sick of hearing it.

Looking for a thoughtful fantasy with heart, adventure, and a hopeful message.

I'm looking for a fantasy or speculative novel that explores themes like finding your purpose, coming of age, and appreciating the beauty of everyday life. I'd prefer it to be set in a fictional world or somewhere non-specific rather than the real world.

I'm after something that leaves you with a warm, hopeful feeling, similar to A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers.

Some of the qualities I'm hoping to find are:

- The uplifting, thoughtful message of A Psalm for the Wild-Built.

- The philosophical depth of Klara and the Sun.

- The sense of adventure and mystery from The Da Vinci Code.

- The emotional impact of Call Me by Your Name.

- The humour and warmth of Good Material by Becky Chambers.

- Maybe even the magical sense of wonder of Harry Potter.

It doesn't need to have all of these qualities, but I'd love something that blends at least a few of them into a memorable story. Any recommendations?

Missing couchsurfing "Hangout" right now.

This afternoon, I'd be all over hangouts. I met so many great people doing that. Nomad table is full of young (and strangely clueless) people. I really miss the old app.

Someone made a huge mess in the kitchen and left their cooked food in the shared pot on the table overnight for their own convenience so I poured a bag of salt in their food. AITAH?

Am I the asshole?

Are Polish RyanAir staff the most strict when it comes to bag size?

Katowice airport I have flown (and had my bag checked) at the ryan air gate multiple times. In Katowice they were more strict than anywhere else and it made me nervous.

Is it also possible that once the girl realise I was foreigner, she was more lenient?

Cheers

Should I be open about my intention to apply for 820 Onshore visa while on 601 Tourist visa to border agent?

My partner (spanish) and I (aus citizen) want to apply for tourist visa for 3 months so we can apply for partner visa and bridging visa.

Obviously if we don't get the bridging visa approved he will go home and follow the law, but I don't want to look fishy to the border agent. So we were just going to tell them what our plan was.

Broken phone charger started working again, can you explain what went wrong?

This story involves different steps. Use the number to reference any element because I am completely lost.

  1. I had a Samsung S21 which I bought refurbished.

  2. I bought a INIU portable charger off Amazon.

  3. I was using my regular charging cable working fine.

  4. I travelled to Vietnam and my phone started only charging when it was MORE THAN 5%. If it went flat it would not be able to recharge at all.

  5. It went flat and I tested the charger on another device and it charged fine. I also tried different cables and same result.

  6. I went to a 7/11 and bought a new charging dock to plug in the wall, it didnt work but worked again on my other devices.

  7. Next day I went to phone shop and they told me the port on my phone was broken and needed to be replaced. I didnt have time to wait so I bought a contact portable charger.

  8. For the next 10 months up until yesterday (July 2026) I have been taking my case off and charging my phone with the contact charger. This as meant sometimes my phone has been flat and I've been caught with low battery when I havent been able to charge.

  9. I am in greece and yesterday I was so fed up I went to a phone shop and was going to just send my phone away to be repaired.

  10. He tells me my phone isnt broken and shows me I needed a new cable. I buy a new cable and its nkw charging fine.

  11. Yesterday it was charging eith the same dock from vietnam. Yesterday night I leave it charging overnight and it doesnt charge. But the same cable still works on my other portable charger.

Happy to clarify questions

Almost 2 years post op, so tired of the issue with angle of follicle.

My hairline always points directly up. Then if I try and put it down it goes forward and down and looks silly. It's really frustrating because it looks crazy half the time. Sometimes when I have swam in the ocean and wear a hat it points down after but otherwise it just points up, any tips?
