What is the actual holy grail midge repellent for late May/June?

Midge season seems to be starting properly now, and I’m trying to avoid getting absolutely destroyed on the trail. I keep seeing completely different advice online, some people swear by Smidge, others say only high-DEET sprays work, and then there are loads of people claiming Avon Skin So Soft is somehow the secret answer. What’s actually worked best for you on the WHW? Is a decent spray enough around this time of year, or should I just accept defeat and buy a head net now?

Is anyone actually managing to grab open runs anymore?

Trying to lock down shifts this week has been a nightmare. Feels like the second an open run appears on the app, it disappears almost instantly. Genuinely curious how people are managing it now. Are some riders using auto-clickers or similar tools, or do you basically have to sit there refreshing constantly and hope for the best? How’s everyone getting their hours in lately?

Bruno equalling the Premier League assist record somehow doesn’t feel talked about enough!

20 assists in a league season is genuinely ridiculous. Feels like people have become so used to Bruno creating chances constantly that performances like this almost get normalised now. Do you guys think Bruno is finally getting the appreciation he deserves from football fans outside United?

Thoughts on the new home kit? Looks like they’ve gone for a very retro feel this time.

Just saw the launch photos and the darker red at the bottom is a nice touch. Glad we’ve moved away from all the neon and random black accents from recent years. Can already picture Bruno banging them in wearing this next season..

Is a 5% deposit actually a trap in this market?

We’ve finally hit our 5% deposit goal, but our broker is pushing us to wait until 10% for a better rate. With 95% LTV deals around 5.7% compared to roughly 4.8% for 10% deposits, the monthly difference feels massive. Is it better to just get on the ladder now and stop paying rent, or do the lower rates actually justify another year living with my parents? My worry is that if we wait, house prices will just rise and wipe out the extra savings anyway.

Would you sell Rashford this summer if Barcelona make a permanent move?

Rashford’s future feels like one of the biggest decisions United have this summer now. Hansi Flick praised him again this week and it still sounds like Barcelona are considering whether to make the move permanent, but nothing’s decided yet. If a serious offer came in this summer, would you cash in now or still try to rebuild around him at United?

Has anyone actually taken their self-build to a weighbridge lately?

I’m starting to get a bit paranoid about payload now that I’ve added the water tank and diesel heater. I’m on a standard Class B licence, so I’m slightly terrified I’m creeping towards the 3.5t limit. Has anyone had any issues with DVSA checks lately, or am I massively overthinking this? Also, if anyone has recommendations for lightweight alternatives to heavy MDF cabinetry, I’d genuinely appreciate it.

Is Clark’s still the best for a late-night peh?

I’ve been going to the Clark’s for ages whenever I’m out late, but I feel like I’m stuck in a bit of a routine. I know Fisher & Donaldson is the go-to during the day for a fudge doughnut, but where do you guys go when it's midnight and you're craving a proper peh or a burger? Is there anywhere else that actually stays open late and competes with Clark's?

Is 5 rounds of interviews for a mid-level role actually normal now?

I’m currently job hunting and I’ve hit the 4th or 5th round of interviews with three different companies now. These are just normal mid-level roles, nothing super senior. Honestly, I’m starting to feel burnt out by it. It’s getting difficult to keep taking time away from my current job, and it feels like companies are asking for a huge amount of time before even getting close to an offer.

Is this just how hiring works now? From a recruiter’s perspective, is there usually a reason companies stretch the process this much, or am I just getting unlucky with slow decision-making?

Great to see more focus on restoring the woodlands around the loch

I saw the National Park Authority recently launched that big “Landscape Connections” project to restore the oak woodlands and temperate rainforests around the loch. Has anyone noticed much activity or new signage around the eastern shore (Rowardennan/Inversnaid) yet? It’s cool to think that parts of the trail are tied into such a big restoration plan for 2026.

Is the new £8 apprentice minimum wage actually enough to live on in 2026?

Now that the apprentice minimum has gone up to £8/hour this April, I’m curious how everyone’s managing financially. Between commuting and just buying lunch during the week, it feels like the money disappears pretty fast. Are most employers still only paying the minimum, or are people actually seeing better pay for Level 3/4 apprenticeships now? Trying to work out if my pay is pretty normal at the moment or not.

Dundee in 1984, look at those blue Volvo buses!

Found this great photo of Samuel's Corner from back in the day. The city feels so different now, but I still catch myself looking for that clock whenever I’m walking past. What’s the one thing in this photo you wish was still around today?

After that 3-2 win against Liverpool yesterday, we’ve officially secured Champions League football with games to spare. The job Michael has done as caretaker is unreal, he’s completely transformed this side since January and even managed to beat Liverpool home and away for the first time in ten years. Do we actually still need to look at Andoni Iraola, or has Carrick done enough to prove he's the right man for the job? Personally, I don't see how you can look past him after that turnaround. What do you lot think?

Huge contract for him. Feels like he’s gone from prospect to key player very quickly. Where do you rank him in the squad right now?

It wasn't just about the goals; it was the fact that he was doing this in the toughest league in the world and making it look like a training session. We really were spoiled seeing this live.
