Came across this book titled Linebacker III the other day. Interesting depiction of events if Nixon was never impeached and proceeded to have the USAF hit the NVA during their 75 offensive.

Half way through this book I saw on the subreddit a few days ago. It’s an alternate history book where the US Air Force supports the ARVN in 1975

So far really enjoying it. The main character is actually an ARVN officer. The fighting and plot starts in 1974 so very focused on the state of things when America was not involved. It is very interesting and tragic to read about how the Republics military and institutions could have evolved if the communists 75 offensive was defeated in the same way their 72 one was.

The Vietnam War was winnable and one more Linebacker in 1975 would have wrecked the NVA. We were lied to by Ken Burns.

I’ve been reading Nixon’s books lately…and I think he was right, Vietnamization was close to working, the communist alliance was going to fall apart, and North Vietnams insane economics would have led to South Vietnam outscaling them if it had survived for a few more years.

If Watergate was never uncovered and President Nixon remained in power could he have saved South Vietnam?

I’m reading through an alternate history book called Linebacker III where President Nixon remains in power as Watergate is never uncovered. When the NVA launch their spring offensive he orders an air campaign just as South Vietnams army is being routed in the Central Highlands. I won’t spoil too much but it was pretty interesting to see the results of having the USAF intervene. Do you all think an empowered Nixon with no scandals weighing his admin down would have been able get South Vietnam more aid and if necessary air support?

If the United States was willing, could they have through an Air Campaign in March of 75 have prevented the fall of South Vietnam? Or was it too late by then?

I’m reading through an alternate history book called Linebacker III where President Nixon remains in power as Watergate is never uncovered. When the NVA launch their spring offensive he orders an air campaign just as the central highlands are beginning to collapse. From the map the South Vietnamese in otl and this alternate timeline are in a lot of trouble, the NVA just have them out massed. I won’t spoil too much but it was pretty interesting to see the results of having the USAF intervene. Do you all think an air campaign would have needed to come earlier and that would be too long to wait? I understand the ARVN were able to survive the Easter offensive with US air support while doing pretty much all the ground fighting. They’re not as inept as people think.

Who’s the Bug Now?

I know we all talk Hangar 17B and the other horrible things Lysander did. But during Phobos him calling a green women an insect is in his head as she gets burned alive does offer a good window into his soul. Meanwhile Darrow is atleast agonizing over the costs of his decisions…
