this is the second one in my series (about brain illnesses). This one's for, what I think I'll call, "The Curse of Rabies"

I'm trying to build a biology resource index; would appreciate if people share their experiences / frustrations when trying to find research papers, relevant articles etc.

No, I'm not trying to build another Khan Academy, or something. It's only that I become frustrated when I can't find a relevant section in relevant research papers, or when I want to get to learn about something but it takes hours to find a good video.

Right now, I'm indexing microbiology / molecular biology resources, but I'm open to broadening my horizons.

So I've taken it upon myself to solve my own woes, and hopefully others' too. Please share your frustrations and on this matter and suggestions on how I should approach it :)

The Shining Gewgaws That Keep Seducing My Plans

In my last articles, I received feedback that I should be more deliberate with my words. So this time around I tried to do exactly that.

I'm trying to grow as a writer, and hence feel free to keep the feedback loop rolling.

My Friend Article Clapped My Article 37 times with a new account

Am I or his account getting into trouble? I appreciate his enthusiasm, but, I don't know, my article wasn't that good. I think he discovered he could clap more than once and decided to spam for the fun of it. I don't think it violates the algorithm, but I'm not sure. Any takes?

Hello, this is Aristootle addressing—I switched back over to Medium and had my first article published. Seeking Feedback.

I've written before on platforms like Substack and Tumblr, but this is my second time on Medium and I want to make it count. At the moment not too sure about the niche, but I hope to narrow down over time.

I've published my first article here, and would greatly appreciate any feedback (especially on the structuring issues and my tendencies, to, well, tootle with the prose)

My emotional disconnect

I feel numb. Have been feeling for 30 or so months. Every day is just another day, and I'm just plowing through them for a "better tomorrow" something that I strongly and openly advocate against and then proceed to do myself, mostly because it feels as if this day doesn't matter. The next day might not, but that too doesn't matter.

I practise sotoh zen, currently not as intensely as I once did--that helps me be in the present, and that's hell of a lot better than worrying what happened/happens, so I mostly do that. I has become a third party shell that I didn't know I ordered for myself.

On stoicism, I dunno if what I'm doing is stoicism or something else. If anything I'm being stoic towards emotions, not relying on emotions (atleast on the surface) to portray the person I am to myself and to others. When I think about it, one's emotions could never betray themselves, because they are such a massive part of what makes themselves, well, themselves. And I inadvertently deny them.

On platonic love--I worry about my family, in an unusual way. I never feel alone without them, or particularly scared (unless when I hallucinate someone's watching me from the windows behind, so once I start feeling the non-present stalker, I can't ever leave the curtains drawn back; massive tangent, sry). I feel like I might be saying goodbye to them for the last time. You never know. Perhaps it's somewhat due to both my parents being away for work for a large chunk of the day; especially my mum who travels >100 kms each day for her job, and for some reason has an omnipotent reason to bail out on the seatbelt.

On platonic love, I used to have crushes in middle school and till my freshman/early sophomore years. But when I finally get the guts talk to them, or they to me, after the initial butterfly it's as if they're the most annoyig person to ever exist. After awhile they become that really annoying friend you can't really bond with at any level.

Speaking of friends, I had one hell of a manipulator as my best for 8 years, and even after that to a degree. It didn't help our dads were close, so I had known him since before memory itself, probably. He became crap, to me, and others, but especially to me because he was my first and only "close" friend ("close", lol). Honestly, thinking about him makes me want to find him and strap him to a chair and make him watch a feature length film on all the psychological torture/manipulation he did to me, with our roles reversed.

My next best bud was a freshman and we'd never known each other, and we hit it off in a spectacular fashion. We read each others minds, we still do (over text), but some of the previous guy's qualities rubbed off on him too. He never manipulated me, but through his narcissicm and eventual high handedness (although I wasn't much better), put out the train frienship off the tracks and on the road. He was like an shooting star--filling my night sky with light, and then too much light so that my eyes hurt, and then left (he lived with his uncle's family and the latter got transferred, again). We still get by pretty well though.

I live in a place where every parent deserve to be brought to a tribunal for the environment they created for their children. My parents are better, but still--

  • I don't get to sociallise enough or get the activities I enjoy long enough.
  • I could never keep a physcial private secret (such as journals etc.) 'cause my my finds and reads them.
  • When I'm down they get angry saying things like-- We don't like to see your face like this all the time, or smile more. Like wtf should I do? Eternally stretch my skin into a smile and say that I'm feeling as high and mighty as Shakespeare's portrayal of Caesar?

I'll sen the next part tomorrow, I need sleep. And I'll think on how to write cause this post was unfiltered brain barf.

Thanks for reading

Anyone interested in discussing how ecosystems change? E.g. How did ecosystems change after the 🦕? Or perhaps how would some coral reef recover from a typhoon? (Or suggest something relevant). Check it out 👇
