Do people not understand what I mean when I say 720p?
I (23) recently had a conversation with a slightly younger than myself coworker (20), and they asked me how my vision was when I wasnt wearing my glasses, my vision without my glasses isnt that bad, so I said its like the difference between watching a 1080p video to a 720p video since it pretty accurately describes what happens to my vision when Im not wearing my glasses, and they were completely confused, like I was talking in code, obviously I explained what I meant, like I just lost some detail especially at distance, but I was dumbfounded by the fact that they did not understand what I was talking about when I referred to video resolution. (Obviously yes, eyes dont work in resolution like video does, I know, but is it not comparable and easy to understand?) Gen Z is basically the first generation to grow up with the internet, I've watched youtube videos since at least 2010 and remember messing with the resolution settings in videos to make sure it was set to the highest quality. I remember knowing that my computer monitor was 1920x1080 at least starting in 8th grade, prolly much earlier. Like if this convo happened before the breakthrough of the internet and everyone having screens in their pocket I could totally see someone not knowing the resolution numbers, but not knowing even what Im referring to by saying 1080p or 720p nowadays seems crazy to me. Am I the out of touch one that knows some niche info that is apparently not common knowledge, or were they the one that didnt know something most people in our age bracket should know?
