Help me choose a 20" Crash

I've just cracked a 16" crash I've had for ages. I currently have a HHX Evo 18" crash, a HHX Complex Big Cup ride 22" and Zildjian 14" New Beats.

I'm playing rock/heavy rock type of stuff and think a 20" crash would fit best between the 18" Evo and 22" Big Cup.

I was considering the HHX Complex Thin but I think it's not going to have enough presence and projection. The next consideration was a K Custom Dark which I was going to pull the trigger on but now I'm also considering the K Sweet.

What would you choose and why, the K Custom Dark or K Sweet in the 20" crash?

Edit: Leaning toward the K Custom Dark but also now considering the Paiste Signature Dark Energy 19"

Does this corny singing family in an ICE CREAM SHOP of all places count as “acapella vocal jazz” at all? 🤔

Loop Teddy?

I’m new to the concept of looping. I VC’d Teddy who scored 106. Is that usually high enough to pull the trigger. Otherwise I’ll leave the captain on Cleary.

The Under Appreciation of Practicing Low Dynamics

Just sat down at the pad to practice and had this thought - it’s one thing I wished I’d focused more on earlier in my time playing drums. Practicing things like sticking patterns, subdivisions, orchestrations at varying speeds but only low dynamics I think is invaluable. I mean playing as low and quietly as possible.

Of course when it comes to performing we want to use the whole dynamic range. But one of the things that often seems to seperate the average drummer from the guns is just how well they can call on those lower dynamics through things like ghost notes, crescendos/decrescendos and just general mastery of stick control and touch at those pianissimo ranges. There are more aspects than just that but for me it often seems to be one of the most immediately obvious ones.

How much do others solely focus on this with any intent? I’m going to finish the rest of my pad session keeping my sticks as low as I can!

What’s the weirdest but still accurate tasting note you’ve come across?

I was looking for something a bit different from my usual caramel/toffee picks in beans. The most recent bag of Mexican beans I bought has shortbread, milk chocolate and red apple as tasting notes which has been really interesting for a change.

It got me thinking about the most left-field tasting note that was somehow spot on. Many years ago I was in a cafe and was served a single origin long black espresso. I can’t remember where the beans were from but the tasting note card had “pear milkshake” as one of the tasting notes. Taking a sip I was amazed at how much that shone through. It was so good I ordered another immediately after.

What are some other tasting notes that have stuck in your mind/taste buds as unique?

First Experience - Unexpected Speed

After many years of reading, watching, listening to all sorts of DMT info and trip reports I finally got to experience it! Amazing!

I used a dab rig, dosed 30mg and broke through. The one thing that took me by surprise was not only the speed with which it came on and progressed but the speed with which things were occurring in hyper space.

After listening to so much McKenna describing things like the chrysanthemum/waiting room etc I felt like I might have at least a little bit of time making my way through the stages. However I took two tokes, really felt it coming on and then took one more big one. By the time I barely put the rig down and lay back, BAM, I was already in the other realm.

Then when I had a few moments to gather any semblance of who or what I was, where I was and what was happening, I realised just how fast everything was occurring. I really tried to pay attention to what was occurring and what I was being shown but the speed was unexpected. Everything was in ultra fast forward.

Is this everyone else’s experience? Was it something I may have done with dose or ROA or do I just need to be prepared for that type of speed every trip?
