After three and a half years, my debut novel is finished!

Feels crazy holding an actual copy of the book in my hands after all this time! Available on Amazon for anyone who's interested in checking it out.

EDIT: The book is titled Death Connect! Should've mentioned in the post title!

My book keeps getting dnf'ed at the end of chapter 1. Please help.

Hi,

I've been tracking my KENP numbers and a pattern has emerged lately. Every time it jumps, it only increases by 15-16 pages and then stops. I calculated it based on my Word manuscript, and that amounts to about 9 pages-which is exactly where my first chapter ends.

Now, the book starts in media res with a guy digging a grave in his garden, so I assume it's not a hook problem. Sure, there are two flashbacks in the chapter, but they are brief. Still, for me, the most likely suspect is my prose.

The book was originally written in Turkish. This is a translated work, and I'm worried I couldn't get the English prose right. Maybe the dialogue feels stilted, robotic, or just- off. Whatever the reason, I desperately need some fresh eyes.

I'm posting the gdoc link for the first chapter below. I don't know if this is allowed here, so please let me know if I should remove it. I also stumbled upon a subreddit (destructivereaders) where people critique each other's work based on a credit system, and I'll be doing that for the whole week. But before that, I wanted to try my luck here as well.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IkLwNnjWW6KegNl63-UmTShJdHaUBHLn/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107208265704257518576&rtpof=true&sd=true

Thank you in advance!

Update: At one point I saved the manuscript on a different pc and opened it in another (which had a different Office release and a bunch of typos appeared from nowhere--no space between some words and more than one space between others etc). Before publishing it on Amazon, I caught that and went over it, corrected all of them. But this one apparently still has the typos. Ignore them if you can :))

2nd update: Thank you all. This was a bit brutal, but I needed this. Now I regret not using Reddit before finalizing my novel. But I'm tired. It took me one and a half years to write the book, six months to try publishing (and failing), and six more months to translate. I think I'll stick with this version. The feedback I got is invaluable, but I can't restructure the whole novel again. I'll just hope some readers with a high threshold for flashback endurance will pick up the book. Thanks again :))

After two years of writing, I finally published my debut literary fiction novel.

Hi everyone!

I recently finished the journey of writing, editing, formatting, publishing, and launching my first novel. Looking back, writing the book was actually the easiest part.

Learning cover design, formatting, ISBNs, KDP, marketing, reviews, and trying to reach readers took far more time than I expected.

If I could go back, I would spend much more time learning about book marketing before publishing instead of after publication.

For those who have already self-published, what surprised you the most about the process?

Was it editing, formatting, marketing, reviews, or something completely different?

I’d love to learn from your experiences.

Would you stop?

this will be out soon, currently editing just before my beta readers get into it. Would you stop if you saw a book lookin like this?

Art created by me and a friend. Ink illustration and photoshop. No blurb on the PRINT..... just the quote "I've been trying to get your attention for a very long time". it will only be on Amazon for now.

EDIT: Amazon Blurb

An aging witch named Savan takes in a mute woman she finds wandering naked in the Edenlyl forest. Savan names her Canna, and the two lonely souls build a quiet life together in a cottage at the edge of Sinnu.

But the deaths of nine men are laid at the feet of the Godmab's strange guest. Branded a fugitive, Canna flees Sinnu as a darkness awakens within her fractured mind. As forgotten memories begin to surface, she must confront the truth of what she is—and come to terms with all she must leave behind.

Godmab of Sinnu is a dark fantasy about grief, identity, motherhood, and the cold solace of becoming yourself.

First book live on Kindle :-)

What happens when a megalomaniac AI gets trapped in a cuddly teddy bear? Meet Achilles, a would-be supervillain finding out friendship hits harder than world domination!

I have my first book, "Bear with Me" out on Kindle now, and I am super excited :-)

The book is already free on Kindle unlimited, and I just figured out I can also have it free on Kindle itself for five days, starting tomorrow. If you like humorous fiction for young and young-at-heart readers, please give it a read and, if you like to, a review.

I Published My Debut Novel

I am rewriting this post because people are upset that I used AI to write my post about my bio on the book. I wrote this book when I was 15 years old in 2006 before AI came out. I always been a writer since I was seven years old and been writing stories, poems, songs and journaling. My mother is a writer and my great aunt and great ancestral grandfather was a published author during British colonial times where historians have published scholarships on his work and published at the Library of Congress. At the end of the day, I am a writer and this is my second novel and I am working on my third novel which I hope to publish as well. This is my biggest achievement as someone who has been through barriers and struggles as an immigrant and coming from a low-income background who’s gone through poverty and 8 out of 9 child adversity experience. I am human and no one should be judged so harshly online. My story is of resilience and compassion. If someone is interested in reading my book which is a young adult supernatural romance novel and the main character named Juniper is struggling to heal from trauma and emotional distress from losing her brother until she meets a young boy named Alex who changes her world! This book is also written in first person perspective and has explicit content but is also cheesy in my opinion. Hope people can understand this and enjoy the fantasy world that I have created.

New author seeking connection and community

Hello all

My name is George and I feel impressed to begin my career as a writer and as another. I’ve started to write already on my Google docs but I’m seeking a community of writes to hold me accountable and just to check in with. Hopefully we can connect and I’d love to share in other people’s work as well.

Blessings
George

Pirated copy of my book on google books

Amazon sent me a notice that I was being pulled from KU after a pirated copy of my latest book came up on google books. I sent google several messages including a DMCA takedown request, but their responses were all nonsensical, like it's a robot running that department. Long story short, they won't take it down and I need a lawyer that will go after them for damages on a contingency. Any recommendations? Anyone else been through this?

100 Signed Copies Sold…From Selling Copies Out Of My Local Fisherman’s Bar!

Not every day yall see an author’s journey like mine, but I’m ready to share! 🎭

I ordered the proofs to start so that they have the “not for resale” across them and it makes it feel like it’s part of the theme. It’s been really exciting taking in a stack of books, with not a spare dollar to my name, and walking away with my tab paid for, cigarettes, some cash to reorder 5 or 10 more books, and even a couple bucks left over!

I’m here on Reddit for three and a half reasons.

#1 show other new authors an entertaining way I’ve been self publishing because like minds will think it’s cool.

#2. hopefully inspire your own creativity, and to show you how important putting “boots on the ground” is for your marketing success.

#3. (And most important) FIND someone who’s got a proven digital track record, to take over all of my online digital marketing efforts.

I will literally pay you a 33% cut of my monthly Amazon royalties, because I believe finding the right person is literally worth that much money to me.

Ive only been selling physical copies for a month and a half, and most of the time I only have 5-10 at a time in between days of waiting for orders.

But my **** is spreading like wildfire here in this town I’ve been building this up for, for over 4 years now, and I’ve got over 50 copies on order so I’ll be busy setting up booths and going to art shows and farmers markets and whatnot.

But I’m super terrible at the online portion of everything, I’m awkward at it, and don’t spend much time being online personally anyways.

But the right person will be able to make this shit blow up online, and I’d be willing to obviously put in a small budget to pay for weekly online ads as you see fit, with a budget that can fluctuate based on success we see.

Also, I’ve got other really cool digital things to market because I spent years building my own website that will host this theme of incarceration. The website is designed for you to land on a homepage where you’ve “committed a crime of curiosity” and are sent to booking (where you learn what the layout of the website is) then get sent to “your cell” which is the main page where you have access to “read books” which are links to the book, a page about my crime, and some other interesting stuff. Then there’s… there’s more cool stuff but you get the gist of where it’s going.

Contract is a seasonal 3 month contract where you get paid royalties monthly, for the previous 3 months of accumulated sales.

Also I’m dealing with poison oak and thought I’d share that too. Because it’s driving me insane.

Also my real case was pretty wild and I’d be super open like I always am with sharing more about it. Because it takes context to understand how such a thing could transpire.

Okay, cool, I really hope I find the right person to make us both some money from digital sources! If you wanna take a look at stuff before messaging me, my website is the name of the book 📖

Cheers! 🍻 🐦‍⬛

P.S. maybe you’re not the right fit, but you know someone who might be? Please let them know about this, and they can email me at AManCutIntoSlices at gmail dot com

Sold My First KDP Book So I Guess the Journey Begins. Any Tips?

I just sold my first book on Amazon KDP. It’s only one sale, but it feels like a HUGE milestone. After a long time of writing, editing, re-writing, editing and so on for a while finally 😄

I guess the journey begins now.

For those of you who have been doing KDP for a while, what should I focus on next? Ads, keywords, covers, more books (thats in progress), reviews, or something else?

Thanks and good luck to everyone who didn't publish yet.

My new book

Hello friends, my new book just came out, and I wanted to share it with all of you.

The First Strike Force is an organization of superpowered police officers that protect Zekion and her people from evil and the dangers of the world. But evil does not rest, and the dangers of the world become very real.

Lightning and Angel are sent to investigate the death of a John Doe that the Imperial City police believe was caused by superpowers. With little evidence and one witness statement, they begin their investigation, which takes them deep into the criminal underworld where they seek out the answers they need but also ask questions as bodies begin to pop up every time they turn around.

Kid and Zero are sent to investigate the death of a John Doewhonwas murdered by a tall man with a hammer. After talking to a few witnesses and searching John Doe's, their investigation also takes them deep into the criminal underworld, where they not only seek out answers, but they also find clues that connect their case with Lightning and Angel's case.

Thus begins a joint effort by the four of them to hunt down the killers and bring them to justice. All while the questions that remain in their minds are, who are these John Does, and why was one of their final words Nelcaria?

Mysteries in Imperial City is an adult modern fantasy. Think police drama that meets super heroes.

I did it!!! I never thought I'd actually be holding my own book in my hands.

My book is officially published today. What a journey it's been. People aren't joking when they say writing it is the easy part. But I made it and I get to join all the inspiring success posts I'm always seeing here!

Even if its a total flop by all typical metrics, this is going down as one of my biggest achievements. It's a YA dystopian and anyone who's interested can check it out here: https://books2read.com/b/SunnysideDormitory

Account closed over a pen name mistake. Has anyone successfully appealed a ban?

Hi everyone,

I’m in a really tough spot right now and I am hoping to get some advice from anyone who might have navigated this before.

My KDP account was recently shut down. The reason given was that I used an author name that, unfortunately, already belonged to another established author. It was a genuine oversight and mistake on my part, but Amazon naturally took strict action.

I was making around €400 a month from my books. I know it might not sound like a fortune to some, but I genuinely rely on that income for my daily living expenses, so losing my account overnight has been devastating.

Has anyone here ever been banned (for a similar issue, or anything else) and actually managed to get their account reinstated? If so, I would be incredibly grateful for some guidance:

  • How did you structure your appeal?
  • Is there a specific way I should communicate with KDP support to prove it was an honest mistake and guarantee it will never happen again?
  • Are there any specific things I should absolutely avoid saying?

I know KDP is notoriously strict with their bans and that second chances are rare, but I have to try everything I can to get it back. Any help, tips, or shared experiences would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Published my first novel at 38 today. You can just do things!

It's a satire about queer high schoolers in Texas, conspiracy theorist podcasters, grifters, unrequited love, and the attack on education in our state. It's technically YA, but one reviewer compared it to A Confederacy of Dunces, so I'm definitely blushing! I've been writing for decades, and I finally made it happen.

Proud of myself

I'm just proud of myself and wanted to share that somewhere.

I've worked on this damn book for about 12 years now and while it's not selling insanely well, and I barely have any reviews, I'm still happy with myself. The multicast audiobook is well underway, and I've received over 50 auditions for 3 roles in less than 72 hours.

It sells out constantly at the local book store, and the people that DO read it seem to like it. It's not groundbreaking fantasy, but it's earnest and it comes directly from my soul.

If it even matters to 1 person, then I did something right.

If you like Celtic dark fantasy with slow burn romance and fairy tale retellings gone wrong, then maybe give my book a shot. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find. :]
