How to deal with termites. Northeastern US.

After finding a soft spot in my bathroom wall, I opened up some of the damaged plaster to see termites burrowing along tunnels of damp wood.

Google told me not to disturb the colony further, as that would have the termites burrow further into the wood. It also advised not to get any spray on my own until after a professional examined the area.

Just stressing since the exterminators we called seemed kinda whatever about sending anyone out until tomorrow (currently Sunday here).

I’m hoping this is can be contained in this one section of wall that’s encasing my shower and isn’t part of an exterior wall or a load bearing wall.

New paint color + what do I with front door awning?

This aluminum siding was originally a two-tone color scheme (first floor yellow with second and third floors green). The siding was likely put on in the 1960’s and has never been painted since. Any recommendations? Likely keeping trim/railings white since first floor windows and door are newly installed.

The scalloped awning has grown on me. I had looked up replacing it with something more modern looking but it’s very expensive. Any suggestions on how to revive the awning as is?

Any read on this dug up artifact?

This old medal was dug up in the front yard of my parents 1950’s Massachusetts home.

It pre-dates the house, as this has since been identified as a German sportsmanship medal from the 1910’s.

How it got buried on the property of my childhood home remains a mystery. Anyone pick anything up on this?

It was always about the platform

While many of us are rightfully feeling disappointment, devastation and even
heartbreak over this, it’s important to remember that this was never about any one person.

This was never about any one individual.

This was about running on an authentic campaign that wasn’t beholden to the interests of corporate PAC donors, especially the same PAC donors who contribute to a MAGA opposition.

In a time of great wealth inequality and rising unregulated tech oligarchs, this was about lifting the voices of the working class in solidarity. In community. A force that was smarter than a tired “divide a conquer” tactic.

If whoever faces Collins can share in these values, there’s still a chance of success.

In the meantime, breathe.

Friend killed a year ago this Sunday

An old friend was killed a year ago over a senseless argument with a neighbor. He left behind his young children, and family and friends who miss him terribly.

Sometimes I feel him around via a song on shuffle, or just his all around presence.

Is he angry at his murderer? Is he watching over us? Does he anything to say to me?

Would love some confirmation either way.

Anyone else remember thinking that having the internet was a “rich kid” thing?

I was born in the mid-late 80’s. I swear we were the last house in the neighborhood to “get hooked” on the internet. We weren’t in a super rural area or anything either, I lived in middle/working-class suburbia. But it was huge source of contention from my boomer father, who was skeptical of the necessity of household internet access when we could just “go to the library” to “surf the web.”

I’d be begging to upload those free AOL disks we’d get in the mail into our outdated PC. I was jealous of all my friends who had AIM screenames and could go into shady chatrooms. I’d have to go to a neighboring friend’s house to “check my email” before my father finally caved in like 2001.

I think it was a result of being lower middle class and my dad being cheap. Of course there was only one family “communal” computer that was in my parents bedroom since that was the only other room with a landline outlet. It was a fucking drag.

Joke is on me since we’re all perpetually online now. Anyone else relate?

I wish I could upload images on this but here it goes:

I have a pair of headband type of beats headphones (over the ears) that are charged via an hdmi cord.

I’ve been charging them via my old iMac. But I’ve since upgraded to a newer iMac that no longer has an extra port that I could use to charge out of.

Is there a recommended charging box for this set? I have the cord still, just no means to charge it.

Something that wouldn’t require me hooking up to a compute would be great.

Zone 6b, Rhode Island here. I transplanted these hay scented ferns in my backyard from the side of the road in late August.

Looks like I unknowingly transplanted some white wood asters with it. Which is cool. I’ve been trying to combat this area from English ivy over the last two years.

In September 2022, Smiley faced two other progressive runners for the Democratic nominee and won. With that nomination win, he easily moved on to win the mayoral general election that November.

Numbers show had one of the two progressives conceded and endorsed the other, things likely would have played out differently. But I digress.

This year, Morales will likely take both of Cuervo’s and LaFortunes’s numbers, and then some. It’ll likely just be toe to toe between Smiley and Morales. (Waters is going for the Republican nominee and English isn’t any competition either way)

Primary day is September 9th. 💫✨
