[Pic] Did you know? The overseas has hints of violet and purple.

I took my Overseas out in the sun today, and was surprised to discover that the dial appears purple and/or violet at certain angles. It’s an interesting visual effect.

Following is how Vacheron describes the Overseas. They should add more info about the colors and the emotive effects of wearing the Overseas.

Perfectly suited to active lifestyles, this steel watch houses an automatic movement with an oscillating weight in 22K gold, inspired by the wind rose, a tribute to the spirit of travel. The Maltese cross, a Vacheron Constantin icon, is subtly depicted in the design of the bezel and the steel bracelet. Thanks to its clasp and system of three easily interchangeable straps – steel, leather, and rubber – the watch can be personalized according to the owner’s wishes.

[Choose one] Which red watch: SBGY035 or the Pioneer Mad Red?

I’m a big fan of red/burgundy/oxblood dial watches. Over the last several months, I have ended up collecting way too many watches and have a need to downsize. I own both the Grand Seiko SBGY035 and the H. Moser and Cie Pioneer Mad Red and have decided to keep one and let go of the other.

Which red dial do you guys prefer more? If you had to keep one red/burgundy/oxblood in your collection, would it be the Grand Seiko or the Moser?

Here’s more details of the watches for those unfamiliar:

[Pic] A handsome Speedy

I've always wanted a full gold watch, and after a bit of research I landed on the Omega Speedmaster Moonshine Gold as the best-looking gold watch and value for money on the market. The gold is unlike the typical red/rose gold you find in AP, Rolex, Patek, or Moser; it has a different paler hue that feels sophisticated and traditional at the same time.

The watch retails for ~$50k, but you can find newer listings in excellent condition for ~$30-35k, which IMO is a really good deal. The watch has 200+ grams of 18k gold, which costs ~$25k in raw gold alone. Compared to a full gold Daytona or a Royal Oak, which have massive secondary market premiums, the Moonshine Speedy is a high-liquidity hidden gem for anyone who prioritizes both precious metal aesthetics and intrinsic value.

[SOTC] My collection

I think of my collection as two distinct groups of watches. The first group (top row) is my Classic and Contemporary bucket: watches that are versatile, liquid, and work for most occasions. The second group (bottom row) is Personality-Forward. These are personally curated by me based on aesthetics, finishing, unique complications, and whatever brings me joy.

Group 1: Classic and contemporary:

  1. Rolex Panda Daytona
  2. Vacheron Overseas 4520V
  3. Omega Speedmaster in Moonshine Gold and Green
  4. Tudor Pelagos FXD GMT
  5. For my fifth, I am thinking a green dial steel sports watch. Considerations include the Patek Cubitus, Rolex Sky-dweller Mint Green, or a classic AP Royal Oak in green.

Group 2: Personality-Forward

  1. Grand Seiko SBGY035 (Lt. edition of 700), with a gorgeous burgundy/red Iwao dial that captures the vibe of early autumn perfectly
  2. Schaumburg Blood Moon, a German indie featuring a hyper-realistic 13.4mm moonphase
  3. Baume et. Mercier Riviera Perpetual Calendar (Lt. edition of 50), with a 5-day Baumatic base movement paired with a Dubois-Dépraz perpetual calendar module
  4. Frank Muller Fxing Beach Rabbits (Lt. edition of 300), the perfect beach wear
  5. For my fifth here, I am thinking a H. Moser Streamliner Tourbillon in Red / Ceramic. I used to own the H. Moser Pioneer Mad Red, but recently sold it. I love Moser, so this spot needs to be a Moser.

If you were looking at these two groups, which two watches would you add?

I am trying to understand whether the dial is the same shade as the Pioneer Mad Red. There’s no AD near me, so I’m unable to try the watch on in person. I’m looking for a burgundy-toned watch, so if the Pioneer Burgundy Tourbillon leans more red than burgundy, I’d pass on it.

Anyone own the watch, or has seen it in person? Mind sharing any photos?

These two are obviously very different watches, but I’m considering purchasing one of them. Does anyone here own either of them? If so, what are the pros and cons?

Pricing-wise, I can get the Burgundy Pioneer Tourbillon used for ~$50k (~33% off retail) and the Streamliner Perpetual Moon brand-new for full retail ~$44k.

If you were me, which would you choose? Which one do you personally prefer, and why?

If it helps, the main timepieces in my current core collection are the Panda Daytona, Overseas, Speedmaster Moonshine Gold, Tudor Pelagos, GS Spring Drive, Baume Riviera Perpetual Calendar, and Blood Moon.

My latest addition is a Yoshida Limited Edition of 100. It’s the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda GT Ice Blue. The baby blue dial color and the textured pattern are exquisite. The watch feels heavy though; I’m still getting used to its wearability.

From the Yoshida website:

“[Parmigiani Furrier] Tonda GT Ice Blue (Ref. PFS910-1020006-100182)

The second YOSHIDA limited model of Parmigiani Fullier is here. A basic model that adopts an elegant ice blue color unique to this model and is equipped with a big date with excellent visibility. The case is thinned by its own automatic movement, achieving a comfortable fit to the wrist. A special box and one black and one blue rubber strap each are included.”
