LETALIS - Nonlinear Monster-Taming RPG
We launched LETALIS on Steam a month ago, and while we’ve been fortunate enough to reach quite a few players, we’re still very much an unknown indie game. So I figured I’d introduce it here, in case it sounds like something some of you might enjoy.
LETALIS is a nonlinear RPG built around exploration, combat and experimentation. There’s a story, but it’s not the focus. If you’re looking for long dialogue scenes and a heavily scripted adventure, this probably isn’t for you.
The goal is simple: explore the world, find the Coliseums, and beat them all. The Coliseums are endgame challenges, but the game doesn’t force you through a specific order. Once you’re strong enough to beat one, you’re generally strong enough to start looking for the others.
Progression works differently too. There’s some grinding, but no EXP grinding. Your Letalis rank up by surviving fights against opponents of the same rank, or by landing the finishing blow on an opponent at least 5 ranks below them. With the right route, a Letalis can theoretically reach the maximum rank of 24 in only 23 battles.
You can equip your Letalis with different weapons and, at certain ranks, promote them (or not) to unlock new gear or unique perks. You can also catch wild beasts and even fuse humans with beasts to create some pretty wild combinations.
Because the game is nonlinear, every playthrough can feel different depending on the choices you make, the Letalis you recruit and what you discover along the way. There are rare weapons, unique Letalis to recruit, dungeons, hidden areas, bosses, secrets and plenty of things that aren't simply handed to you. I’ll repeat myself here: LETALIS rewards exploring, experimenting and paying attention, rather than constantly pointing you toward the next objective.
If that sounds like your kind of RPG, there’s a demo on Steam if you’d rather try it before buying.
And if you do give it a try, I’d genuinely love to hear what you think!
