Phantom Fury

I feel like this game gets wayyyyyyy too much hate. I'm close to finishing my 2nd playthrough after playing it for the first time 2 years ago. While it's definitely not on the same level as Ion Fury, I feel it's the proper evolution to a well known boom shoot IP. Going from boomer shooter to Half-Like kind of makes sense. The levels are cool, LOTS of cool new weapons and nice art style.

So, why does this game get so much hate? I see all the reviews talking about bugs and it not being as good as it's predecessor. I have this on Xbox Series X and the ONLY problems I ever face is an occasional crash. Other than that it runs great, plays great and feels great. But besides those 2 things, why does this game get so much hate? I personally love it.

Just Curious

So, I only recently played the first one plus Files, 2+Reborn and 3 within the past 4 years. I enjoyed my time with each the first go around. Minus 3, it's so basic. But I just tried playing the first one again a couple days ago and found myself getting extremely bored. Maybe it's because there's no sprint and you move so slow, maybe it's the levels all being the same grey hallways, office spaces or maintenance areas, maybe it's because I've developed a love for more fast paced "boomer shooters" within recent years. Idk. I'm just curious as to why this game is so highly regarded as one of the best FPS games of all time? Besides the enemy AI being hyper-intelligent that bases their attack plan off of what you do, the slow motion ability and the shotgun being amazing. That's the only positives I can think of. Tbh other than that it's all kind of boring. Plus 2 and 3 are basically just FEAR of Duty generic FPS games. Idk.

Possible?

Madspace to Hell and Beyond. I know Nightdive's name is on the Steam release, but the game is HORRIBLY optimized for modern systems. This game looks reallt interesting, but it's next to impossible to play. Could also definitely benefit from some level reworking.

Eradicator. Also another one with Nightdive's name attached. Played through this one and it was a really good time, but I'd love to see a remaster of it. Could be great.

Then definitely Terminator Future Shock & Skynet, Alien Trilogy, Unreal and Soldier of Fortune.

Favorite Build Engine Game?

Out of all the BE games I've played my ranking would go:

  1. Blood

  2. Ion Fury

  3. Duke Nukem

  4. Shadow Warrior

  5. Powerslave Exhumed

  6. A.W.O.L

  7. Redneck Rampage Rides Again

  8. Redneck Rampage

  9. NAM

  10. WWII GI

While both MAM & WWII GI were both fun and had cool settings and time periods, they're last because I had to use god mode to beat both. They both have insane amounts of BS like hitscan enemies that hit you before you see them or mines that blend in with the ground.

Why?

So, over the past 2.5 years, I've become a huge boom shoot fan. Especially the ones with Doom style, 2.5D in 3D environments, graphics, but also love the all 3D chunky pixel games similar to Quake. Recently tried going back to play other FPS games I've played and enjoyed like FEAR, Prey, The Darkness, Black, Bioshock, etc., but I just can't really get into them anymore, mostly because they aren't in the same pixelated graphical style I love. Why is that?

I didn't grow up playing Doom or similar games, so I don't have any nostalgia for those types of games. I just love the graphical style.

Quake - Dawn of the Machine

I am loving the expansion. But one issue, to get the rune of chaos is it really expecting you to play through the same 5 ENTIRE levels you already played through? Or am I missing something? The other 3 runes were replays of the levels, but just once and mostly shorter. But when I went to get the last rune, I completed the replayed level, then it just kept putting me into the next levels I've already played. Please help. I might just be an idiot.

Dear Indie Devs

Please please please STOP making Roguelike/lites and Wolf3D-likes. I, personally, don't wanna keep playing the same levels over and over to try and progress. And also don't want to run around samey, confusing mazes. Level design is just as important as the combat and weapons. That's all.

Roguelikes: I don't want to replay the same levels over and over in hopes that the RNG goes in my favor and allows me to succeed and progress. I want to use my own skills and all the weapons at my disposal to succeed and progress. Not just have a chance of getting something that ALLOWS me to progress.

Wolf3D-likes: I don't want to play level after level of flat and basic mazes that are just the same textures plastered over every wall and floor. Also most of these only have a few weapons and enemies. So once you play like 5 levels you've basically seen the whole game. Boring, repetitive and really unenjoyable. I want games like Doom or Blood or Quake with life, character, monuments, landmarks and enviromentd that make me feel like I'm in some sort of place with a clear goal. Not samey, bland mazes over and over and over and over, wall humping to find secrets and doors that all look the same but only one works.

Night Lovell Albums Ranked

In anticipation of Night Lovell's new album I figured I'd rank his albums and see everyone's opinions on my ranking. First I wanna make a disclaimer that although I like the beats/vibes of his albums, the lyrics are always very repetitive. Always about bitches, money, taking n**gas bitches, n**gas tryna copy or haters/people trying to take him down. I wish he'd go more into the surreal horror type of vibe that mirror his IG posts and overall vibes of his albums. Either way it's whatever.

  1. Goodnight Lovell

- Love the dark and atmospheric vibe of this one. The Ginseng beats just fit Lovells style so well. For most of the album being produced by Ginseng, all the beats feel different and unique, all while having the dark vibe to it.

  1. Concept Vague

- Great debut project. All self produced too. Beats are great and varied. Dark and atmospheric again. Some of the mixing on certain tracks could be better though.

  1. Just Say You Don't Care

- A good little album. Again the vibes are there, but I just wish the beats had some more variety. While he does use a few producers on this one like Outby16, Kiraw and Shaq France, all the beats sound very similar. Still good.

  1. I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY

- Coming from JSYDVC, this album just feels like more of the same exact thing. Basically all produced by Outby16. Not bad, but wish it was a bit more different than his previous entry.

  1. Red Teenage Melody

- This is probably gonna get me some hate, but I've just never been a huge fan of this one. It isn't bad by any means, it just feels like his weakest album. It's all basically trap bangers/mainstream sounding anthems. A complete 180 from Concept Vague to this one. I appreciate the change, but it just doesn't land for me.

Lemme know what y'all think.

FOMO for Games I've Played, but Didn't Enjoy...

I have a list some games I've played but didn't end up enjoying. For some reason I have FOMO regarding them, so much so that on this list, under each title, are a few reasons I don't want to play/beat them. Am I weird, paranoid or just OCD?

Here's the list of games, if anyone could maybe let me know if I'm actually missing out: (not a fan of story heavy games, games without manual saving/unfair checkpoints or where you start the level over if you die or roguelikes)

  • Meat 2

  • Terminal Breach Final Dawn

  • Enigmatic Worlds

  • Marathon 1, 2 & Infinite

  • The Citadel & Beyond Citadel

  • Blake Stone Planet Strike

  • Toyful Wonderful

  • Wolfenstein 3D

  • Daemorgen

  • Nightmare Reaper

  • Mark of Cain

  • Gastro Force

  • Madspace to Hell and Beyond

  • Chains of Fury

  • Hedon Bloodrite (only the 2nd episode)

  • Carnal

  • Blood West

  • Nosferatu

  • System Shock

  • Gloomwood

Best/Favorite Outro Song?

Personally I think the best outro song is the cover of "Just What I Needed" by The Cars from S6E14. Just the whole sequence leading up to Tina singing it and H Jon Benjamin doing the sounds lol. It just feels good.

Edit: Also S8E1, The Right Number if Boys for You is also a banger

Doom Weapons Ranked (LOR included)

  1. Plasma Rifle - good damage, holds lots of ammo and good for crowd control

  2. BFG - not 1 just because of how much ammo it uses, more like a panic weapon

  3. Super Shotgun - great all around workhorse weapon

  4. Rocket Launcher - good for big enemies, bad cause of the splash damage to yourself

  5. Chaingun - good crown control and basically the sniper for the game

  6. Incinerator - basically a fire version of the Plasma Rifle but I love the sprite and that they introduced new weapons in LOR

  7. Calamity Blade - the BFG of LOR, while awesome and the sprite is so cool, it only works horizontally, no vertical damage, which doesn't really hinder it in the LOR campaign

  8. Shotgun - fine for what it is, but once you get the SS it becomes obsolete

  9. Pistol - good for the first few enemies before you get the shotgun

  10. Chainsaw - fun novelty melee weapon

  11. Fists lol

Mad At Myself

When did everyone get into boom shoots?

I did just 2 years ago at 27 years old. But I'm mad at myself it took me so long. I've wasted so much time and money on dumb AAA games and Call of Duty. Wish I would've gotten into them in like 2015. But better late than never I guedd.

So, I loved the first DF game and watched Civvie's video on this one, and it looks kind of interesting. My problem is, will it work on Steam Deck straight away? Also how does this game hold up? Is it confusing or a lot of the same looking areas over and over? Civvie said a lot of the areas look copy & pasted so it's confusing to figure out where to go. Which I am not a fan of. Wanted to know how it actually is though.

I exclusively play boomer shooters, though I'm not very good at them. So I play an either easy or very easy, depending on how many options a game gives. Am I missing out on anything playing at higher difficulties? All I've seen is that there are more enemies, they're faster and do more damage. Is the enemy increase, plus taking more damage worth the struggle for someone who basically sucks at these types of games? I just really like the art styles, weapons and environments. Plus I like killing the enemies, but don't like repeatedly dying.

I wish so bad that they would've stayed away from the stupid 3D gimmick that plagued the late 2000's/early 2010's. The movie looks SO cheap and the pink blood just completely ruins it. It could've been such a good movie. But it looks like a soap opera that your great grandmother would watch.😭😭

So, what's everyone's opinion on "save scumming" in boom shoots? Personally, I do not enjoy replaying parts of a game after I died in some BS way or made one small error. So, I save very often. I will play games like Viscerafest, Wrath, Dread Templar, Incision, Darkenstein 3D, etc. that don't have quicksaves, but only if the save/checkpoint/lives system is fair and feasible. But I really like when a game have manual saving.

Anyone a fan of these games? Personally I like them, for the most part. I was able to beat NAM regularly and had to use cheats for WWII GI. I like these games because they're "realistic" boom shoots that use the build engine. So it's cool

Problem is both of these games are riddled with the biggest BS. Both of them have these stupid mines that literally blend in with the grass textures. The amount of random explosions that just come out of nowhere and kill you is insane. Enmies can start beaming you across the level before you can even see them. The draw distance is so low and the levels are so dark. Lastly, the way medkits work is so dumb, that they don't heal you all at once, but so slowly over time.

I love the art style and feel of these games, but I HATE having to use cheats to beat a game. But I just play games for fun and not to punish myself lol. Just wanted everyone's thoughts on these games.

So, I posted a poll like this before, but as I look back now it had way too many options because I'm an idiot lol. Now it's only 3. There's the 2/2.5D style where enemies and weapons are 2D sprites in 3Dish environments, the Pixelated 3D style where all aspects of the game are 3D but still have the pixelated/low-poly look or Modern/Realistic type games.

Hi everyone, we unfortunately had to send our dog, Xena, to doggy heaven on October 18th, 2025. I think about her everyday and miss her a lot. I've cried a lot. But one thing I don't understand, whenever we were at the vet, during the euthanization process, I only shed a few tears and also didn't really say goodbye. I gave her a few pets, but my wife was laying on the floor with her. Why do I cry more now than when it was actually happening? Also, I don't think I said goodbye, because I wanna believe it isnt goodbye, but see you again someday. I feel really guilty for not crying and not saying goodbye. Should I not feel this guilt or is it normal? Thanks..
