A week or so in my new spare bedroom listening space

I posted the first shot a week or two ago, after just acquiring the space to dedicate to my music hobby. Fast forward a week or so and we have what I am extremely happy with right now. Biggest upgrade was the speakers, going from a completely oversized but gorgeous sounding Missions to the Kef LS50 metas. Lick of paint all over, a cosy carpet and some lighting. Very happy

Suffocate The Skies - Obsidian Shores

Saw a recommendation for this album today and it hasn’t disappointed. Brand new release from the band hailing from the USA. Manages to remain melodic whilst having that heaviness that sometimes isn’t a present as I’d like. Really impressed with this release. It’s definitely worthy of some attention

Pretty excited

Just made a start on clearing my spare bedroom to create a listening space. Initial thoughts on sound is good. Obviously decoration and suitable furniture to come but it’s a start! Hardware is: Cambridge evo 150, evo cd transport, Technics SL1210mk2 and Mission 730 floor standers. The speakers will probably make way for some smaller stand mounts but that’ll come a bit later in the future. For now, decoration and some comfortable furniture

Before I take the plunge

I’ve been in the Apple ecosystem since day 1 and am having a few questions:

I am music mad, whenever, wherever. I currently use a Sony NW WM1a to listen to my own library on MDR M1 wired headphones which is insanely good. I love this combo but sometimes I want to listen to streamed music via wired headphones instead of relying on my iPhone to crush the music and send it to my Sennheiser m4’s. Not having to carry the Walkman on some occasions would be really handy too.

Obvious answer for me is to get a phone with a headphone jack? My concerns are losing the insane quality combination of the Walkman and 4.4mm cable etc. The other issue is moving away from Apple and really missing the system.

So is there a way of dipping my toe into the Xperia world without having to go all in? Which model would you recommend that I can pick up cheap, that I can put my micro sd into and give me a taste of what the Sony Xperia might be like? I’d love to try a flagship 1 Viii but until I’ve decided I’d like to try an older gen first. Any thoughts would be amazing. Thank you

Manchester 22/052026

They absolutely killed it, opening for Queensryche in Manchester. It was a bit of a weird experience because the place was half empty which I thought was just wild considering who I was stood watching. I think the pairing of these guys and Queensryche probably did the damage as the place was rammed by the time the main act came on. I’m gutted because I got the vibe from the band that they were disappointed with the lack of attendance, their performance was incredible and I actually got a bit emotional watching House Of Light and Owls. This band rips live

Venom Prison - Erebos (2022)

Just added this to the collection. Picked up from Dark Earth Records in Liverpool. Most would agree that their earlier release, Samsara would be their Magnum Opus, but I’m a lover of this one. Bandcamp

Hilda - adult edition

Adult fan here, love the cosy, adventurous vibe, with just the right level of peril and darkness I need at certain times of my life, and I feel the pacing is amazing when I’m just a bit burned out and need escape. I feel a little weird watching as I’m middle aged, so, is there anything out there that scratches the same itch, designed for the adult population? I probably shouldn’t judge myself too harshly, but it’s kind of difficult to explain to my work colleagues that I watch an animated show designed for children every now and again.

Just another appreciation post

I use an iPhone 14 and momentum 4 headphones a fair bit for the gym, work and driving, which is a reasonable wireless set up, but as soon as I switch to this arrangement, wow. This is insanely good, a 7 year old DAP, studio headphones and a good Kimber cable connected to the 4.4 balanced output. The music lifts and comes alive compared to my wireless setup. This is making me dislike the M4’s quite a bit

Fit For An Autopsy - Absolute Hope Absolute Hell

Absolute Hope, Absolute Hell. Slept on this album for a while. Gave it a listen last week and immediately ordered the vinyl from a seller on Discogs. Groovy, and definitely a top album in the genre. To call it DxC is probably doing it a bit of a disservice

Hexenbrand 1486 - Mystic Circle

This is a lot of fun. Haven’t spun it since its release, forgot how good it is 🤘🏼

Who’s had a listen? Album art looks full death metal, but not sure how to categorise this album but I dig it. Hardcore, crust punk?

How can a pre order from 2 months ago miss the release date. UPS mess up, absolutely wounded. I haven’t heard the album yet after preordering on Vinyl and CD. This sort of thing genuinely boils my piss

Possibly my favourite

I’m new to this band in the last 12 months and I love to take my time working through a discography chronologically and slowly. So this week I bought this CD to deep dive into The Nightmare Of Being. I’ve listened through about 4 times front to back and wow, I really think this is my favourite album by ATG. This probably isn’t going to be a popular take but quite honestly some of the riffs and melodies make my heart sing when they hit. Thomas’s vocals are tortured and desperate, the music is absolutely as sharp as I’ve heard from them, and the production is immaculate to my ears. I love Slaughter of The Soul, The Red In The Sky Is Ours and Terminal Spirit Disease, and have pre ordered the new album, but this is the one. I am so glad I found this band, I am buzzing
