Is this too much as a gift?

Is this too much as a gift?

Hello everyone,

Need your opinions as mothers, friends, and family.

If I gave this to the cousin of my boyfriend, of three years, would it be too much. We see her once a year, for 3-5 days each year. Her and her now husband have always been the kindest to me of anyone in the family- including his brothers, sisters and father. They genuinely ask me questions about myself and act as if they care whereas his other cousins and family really treat me as the pet my boyfriend has brought along. So I am truly so excited for them to have their baby, despite the distance between where we live .

Anyway, I showed my boyfriend and asked him to maybe contribute a doordash giftcard so they can take care of themselves after baby has arrived.

He is making fun of me, saying I spent too much, saying "we hardly know them," "we'll never see the baby," "why would I congratulate them for not using birth control?"

I even ended up texting his mom asking if it was too much, second guessing wether or not it was too much to come from a cousin. Her response was that it was "certainly generous, but definitely a lot"

Idk, I have always given a few outfit sets, of various ages just incase a baby is on the quick growing side or because baby shower atendees tend to give newborn clothing- which babies quickly grow out of. Plus a blanket, lovey, and toy. That is my go to gift.

This time, since aging (my first shower since I was 20- now I am 26) and realizing the woman usually gets lost to the mother, I tried incorporating a separate set of things just for the mother to be herself.

So, my question is- is this too much? Should I return a few things and scale down?

Totally random thing happened and my nanny family is acting like I'm in the wrong- am I?

Hello fellow nannies,

Background: I have been with my family for 1 year and a half now. We typically have no problems, have only had to have a constructive conversation once that I personally initiated based on the way the grandparent in the house was treating me that has since been mostly fixed. They tell me they appreciate me and trust me a lot and their friends and family say they speak highly of me when they meet me. Nanny baby is 20months

So today:

The last few days have been rainy so nanny baby and I went to a park this morning (sunny but park is super shady) that was drenched in water. Because they prefer NB not to wear wet clothes I took NB home and they set up play at home, but NB wanted desperately wanted to go back to the parks. So I ended up driving him in my personal car to a different park in the area that is sunny. He enjoyed it for some time, but it ended up being a little too big for him so I thought of another park to explore. Told the mother we changed locations ETC. Sent pictures of both new parks and her child playing at them.

We ended up seeing a family at this secondary park and after they had left for about 15 minutes, I saw a wallet on the bench with a huge wad of cash in it, credit cards, library card, etc.

Texted the grandparent that we'd be dropping it off to the Police station, because thats the right thing to do and it was a literal target with such a large wad of cash.

I dont live in this area, so I assumed the street name (of a town I know is in the area at least) was the town we were in. Took the baby to the police station and by the time we were halfway there the mother was texting me. My phone wouldnt connect to voice to text over the car- so I called her. She declined my call. I left a voicemail. She did not call back until her husband called me while I was IN THE POLICE STATION. And out of respect to the officer I was in a conversation with, I dont answer calls when I'm speaking to people, I declined the call. Then the mother called me. Then when I left the station and was told I would need to bring the wallet to the neighboring town, the mother called me again, I told her I would bring the baby home to the grandmother for lunch and would run to the police department and drop off the wallet while he ate. She said okay and then hung up.

Then I called the grandmother, she said okay to the plan as well.

Then the dad started texting me to mail the wallet back or take it back on my personal time. To which I said, I'm sorry but no. Im not comfortable keeping a lost item for that amount of time- as the missing owner may be actively looking for it.

Then he tried to call me after I had dropped off baby.

I did not answer and proceeded to the police station as I informed them. I texted them when I was done (the second station was a visit of 20 minutes total, there, going in, and driving back. Total 20min, less than the lunch break I never get)

Fast forward to now, they tell me I shouldnt have done that because the baby was thrown off his schedule and they are uncomfortable with him going to the police station. They said I should have checked with them (which I feel as though they had ample opportunity to tell me no)

So what would you have done?

Potty training w/ nanny?

Hello everyone, nanny here.

Wondering what everyone does about potty training with a nanny.

I come from a daycare background where we did potty train children but we did NOT use those little portable seats. All children learned ON THE TOILET, and wondering how we navigate difference in potty training preference. If the child is with nanny most of their waking hours, would it make more sense to have nanny be comfortable?

Genuinely, I do think this is better for long term training purposes, but I also just dont want to be scrubbing and disinfecting a little toilet as many times is needed to effectively potty train.

Besides this confliction of methods, any other tips that have worked for everyone?

NB is 1.5y/o boy.

He currently knows to pat his bum if he's pooped, front if he's peed (but only when asked) and currently will sit on the little chair for a moment or two before asking to get up.

He has me and a grandmother in the home during the day, and parents and grandmother all work with him together at night.

TIA!

Entry level jobs for unskilled worker

Hello everyone,

Background: Posting for my sister who is 27 and a little lost in life. She started college, dropped out, and has since kind of bopped around at various minimum wage jobs.

She lost her job a year ago at a dispensary due to having a lot of drama with her on again- off again relationship. The problem is, that job paid slightly above minimum wage and now she is hungry for more money (which in this economy who can blame her, right). She got a commision job under the promise of great money, only to end up owing the company payback for hours she works but doesnt make commision.

My question is: is there anything anyone knows about that would make a fair wage with little to no experience other than sales and fast food. She doesn't want to do nannying/caregiving and doesnt have a completely clean driving record, so not sure what is left for her and looking for options from others' experiences!

TIA!

Massachusetts commission advice

Hello everyone,

Location: Massachusetts

My sister is a massachusetts employee working for a certain furniture store making commission sales.

Right now she cannot plan any bills or budget her earnings because she cannot get on her feet at this job. She is a commision employee, yet on the weeks when she doesnt make any commision she is made to pay back the hours she worked and didnt make commision. She is paying the company hours to stand in the store. There are employees there that owe thousands of dollars to the company before they can "earn commision" that goes to them and not the company.

Is this legal? I'm specifically wondering about if the Massachusetts Wage Act could be a help in this, how commision and tipped workers need to make at least minimum wage and if they fall under the company is supposed to make up the difference until it reaches minimum wage.

Vacation work

Hellp everyone!

At the end of June my nanny family has a family funeral to attend a state away, and they have asked me to attend with them. They will make it a trip for a little more than just the funeral, tentatively planning a day trip to the closest city for the days afterwards. And they plan on having me drive my own car down, and pay reimbursement for milage and lunch on the way plus all meals while there, the drive is approximately 3 hours south from my house and they are a 1.5 hour drive north of me with morning traffic. I asked them to spare me the drive north and allow me to meet them at the destination since I would be driving my car and they agreed. I assume it will be the same for the ride home on the last day, but we haven't quite specified yet.

My question is, how would you go about hours for this type of trip with your nanny/ nanny family?

The first day is a Thursday, they plan on leaving around Noon- would you charge milage reimbursement as well as charge those hours driving? In addition to whatever hours worked when arriving?

And for the full days, would you charge the same 8 hours? 24 hours-minus sleep time? A flat rate for the weekend?

Ive never went on a trip with a nanny family, so fully unsure of the standards.

Opinions wanted

Hello everyone,

Mostly here to vent, but also please share your experiences as well.

So the family I have been working with for the past year are WFH with a live in Grandma, and the NB is 1.5y/o boy.

Ever since he was a baby, (I started at 4mo) he needed someone to be in the room for nap. They never sleep trained him and it took until just a couple of moths ago to get him to sleep at naptime without physical contact in some way shape or form. But even so, he's a light sleeper and sometimes just me standing up to use the bathroom or even just sighing will wake him. We've gone through phases where they ask me to try to do more, then the grandmother runs to the room as if I've abandoned the child. I'm not necessarily against doing more duties when the boy is napping but I really get mixed signals a lot from them.

From March until 2 weeks ago, the grandmother was away and had a family friend come stay in her place (the grandmother is afraid her daughter and SIL will fall apart without her) and the friend did all the cooking and cleaning. Yesterday was the first day without her and the MB was back to asking me to clean and try more things, which she specified BEFORE nap. I left as soon as the baby was asleep because he usually sleeps deeply for a solid hour, before he could wake at any moment. So I cleaned the playroom and got the bottles washed.

Today I heard nothing of that sort, so did not get up as soon as the baby fell asleep. MB asked me to clean the playroom again (even though we havent been in there at all since I cleaned it yesterday, so whatever mess was from after hours yesterday night) and I texted her back that the baby is in the light phase of his nap and has even woken up once already.

The cherry on top of all of this, is they recently went on a weekend trip and had me organize their playroom while they were away. Not even two days back from their trip and the grandmother dumped all the toys from new bins that I BOUGHT FOR THEM (because they asked me to organize it however I thought fit, but they didnt have more than a TV console shelf to put toys) into one large basket.

Am I wrong in thinking its kind of ridiculous to continuously ask me to organize if they refuse to stick to any type of organization themselves, especially after they ASKED me to do it for them?

Like I said, I truly dont mind cleaning bottles during nap, but mostly need to do it while he's in deep sleep. But the organizational duties when they just dump it themselves is really wild to me.

Menstrual cup questions

Hello everyone,

This might seem like a silly question. Usually I wear a menstrual cup day 2 of my cycle and onwards because the first day is usually very light. Yesterday was Day 1 and I had to wear one due to events planned for mothers day being better suited to it. When I got home i noticed not much blood in the cup, just brown discharge like the beginning and end of the period, then while wiping it was like super heavy, bright red and a few tiny clots. I thought it was odd, but nothing too crazy because maybe just weird timing and it was getting heavier then.

Well I rinsed it and put it back in. Again this morning, took it out and nothing was actually in the cup besides brown.

This afternoon at lunch, you guessed it same thing. Every time I wipe its super red and clearly my period has started, but nothing is collecting in the cup. Im nervous that its somehow blocking my flow, even though when I google it nothing of the sort shows up!

I'm scared I will end up getting some type of infection or TSS if blood is not leaving my uterus but I'm at work and cant leave to get anything different from the pharmacy. Do you guys think i will be okay? I have 4 more hours at work?

I don't feel like my charts ever really coincide with each other, and my Natural Cycles app has had some issues predicting my "ovulation date" on my past two cycles.

(This cycle I missed my LH surge on a test due to busy schedule and bad timing, but last cycle had two positive LH strips on separate days but my temperatures never rose so the app marked OD as a random day earlier in my cycle)

I feel very confused, and just want to know what you experienced trackers think 🤔
