SV20 head doesn't fit cab..

New sv20 head day..yaaaay ! Unfortunately the feet on the head dont fit in the holes in the cab..they are about half an inch too narrow . Cab is a 1965a

Assume the solution is to simply take the feet off which isn't ideal but will work? Not the most secure option though.

Anyone found any workarounds to this problem?

Weird electric shock feeling when plugging in frfr cab

So I recently bought an frfr cab. I have it running into my gp200 box. Today the cab was switched on, cable in back. Went to connect the other end of the cable in to the gp200 and got a slight electricl shock

I dont get the shock when it's all connected up, only when I am touching both the cable from the frfr cab and the gp200. I assume I'm completing some kind of circuit.

Which leads me to the obvious question, is that normal? I've plugged many a cable from an amp into an effects box and never had a shock. Is my frfr cab faulty, not earthed properly etc?

Ever come across an 'easy' song that is deceptively difficult..?

So for context, I'm not great by any means but I'm not absolutely terrible. Played in a pub band 30 years ago at uni, and took it up again 18 months ago having not touched a guitar for 25 years. I can keep time, I can play riffs, throw in the odd solo...I'm probably at thr level where I can play a solo like the one from 'alive' or 'hotel california'..ie I'm not a complete beginner

So when I'm asked to learn 'american girl' by tom petty I reckon it'll be a piece of piss. It's only 5 chords, some simple step downs, and admittedly a solo which the last few bars are going to be beyond me. But the rhythm bit, that'll be easy, I fully expected to get it down in about 20 min. So I figure out the chords, bung on a youtube backing track..

Nope..I just couldn't keep time .. at all. Literally spend an hr on it and couldn't progress past the bridge. In fact the only bit that sounded decent was the intro.

Now I appreciate an hr isn't a long time to spend learning a song, but i was genuinely staggered (and slightly demoralised) by my inability to not make it sound like someone who'd been playing for about a month

Obviously I need to practice alot more, but are there any other songs out there which you've found deceptively hard, or just had a complete mental block over, and why?

One marshall footswitch for 2 marshall amps?

I have 2 marshall amps, a dsl and an origin. As far as I can tell, other than the wording on the footswitch, the pedl-90012 that comes with the dsl is exactly the same as the pedl-90016 that didn't come with my origin. I've plugged the dsl one into the origin and it's fine

The issue is they a big bulky pedals, I want to stick it on my pedal board, but don't want to constantly have to unplug it from one amp to the other. The amps are against the wall so it's not easy to do, especially on the origin.

So my thinking is one pedal, some kind of A/B splitter going from the pedal to both amps. Then I can just flip a switch dependent on which amp is on. Would such a set up work? I know the Jack's are trs which complicates things.

The other minor issue is sometimes my mate will use one of the amps. If he did that, could he still swap channels manually and use the reverb if the cable is attached? I assume as the pedal is aligned to my amp it wouldn't be an issue but who knows

Thanks

My 100 quid practice set up sounds better than my marshalls? Why?

So I have a marshall dsl 402 with a couple of creambacks, a marshall origin, a katana artist, a vox ac4, a bugera v5..I have a pedal board with compression, numerous drives, boost and effects..

Yet for some reason the thing I prefer playing through is a 40 quid sonicake pocket master plugged into a 3 watt blackstar fly 3. I can't even remember adjusting the settings on the pocket master, literally stuck it on first preset, plugged it into my wee practice amp and was like 'wow, this is amazing'. Tons of sustain, drive sounded amazing..

Now obviously I must be tone deaf or something as there is no way a 3 watt solid state practice amp and a amazon modelling thingy can be better than my other kit. And I'm not comparing it to the marshalls at similar low volume either..even when played at a decent volume they dont sound as good as the practice amp at quiet bedroom levels

So what's am I missing..is there some kind of secret ingredient the sonicake has that I don't have on my pedal board?

Getting rid of a headstock logo..

For some reason I'm really taken by the look of the harley benton rb600, the one that looks a little like a rickenbacker. But the headstock logo sucks. Not because it's a harley benton, just because it looks really out of place on a 'vintage looking' guitar

I'm not going to try to sand the thing off, that's far too much hassle. But I did think I could put on some kind of super thin veneer over the entire headstock, or even some gloss vinyl. The issue with the former is that it'll add a mm or so to the width of the headstock. Woukd that cause an issue from a tuner perspective or won't it matter?

And no..I don't intend on sticking a rickenbacker headstock truss rod cover on there..it'll just be left blank.

Checking on an LPJ?

So I acquired a well played Gibson LPJ for buttons, it's already a bit worn, but given I have zero sentimental attachment to it i was wondering if I could add a little checking to it.

My understanding is it has a nitro finish, so the hairdryer/air can method should technically work

That said, it doesn't look much like a nitro finish, and given no checking has occurred naturally in 13 years of playing I'm not sure it's possible

Any thoughts?

Backing tracks on a katana mini?

So I bought this little amp to have in the lounge to play along with backing tracks. You can't adjust the backing track volume in the amp, it's done on your phone. However at any kind of volume, the backing track quality is awful.

Now I appreciate i shouldn't expect it to handle high volumes, but for context when I'm playing along I have the guitar volume set at 7 oclock on the dial ,(ie pretty much as low as it can go), and when I match the backing track volume it still distorts, specifically the bass which sounds 'farty'. And these are just normal rock tunes, nothing particularly bass heavy

Guy at the guitar shop said its a small speaker, and I shouldnt expect much else, but I'm not convinced. Are they all as rubbish as this. Or is my speaker goosed.

Given its sounds OK when just playing the guitar through it I suspect it's just how they are, but thought I'd check if anyone else's was any better. I should add I previously had a blackstar fly 3 which has a far smaller speaker and didn't have this issue at far higher volumes
