The way they implemented life group cancel is kind of brilliant

The slow windup + slower move speed means that it's not just a binary option of keeping it or canceling it. I can realize what's happening, travel for a little bit, and then cancel midway through.

As someone who plays a lot of ground tanks, this is an absolute game changer. Knowing that I can accept the cleanse, a little bit of healing, and partially keep my position as I choose is SOOOO nice. I usually don't want to go all the way to where my supports are standing, but now I can halt the grip and just use it as a retreat to a different corner.

Not much more to say beyond that, just wanted to shout out how clever this change is.

I do see the vision for D.Mon, I honestly do

I took some advice and tried her in 6v6, and she feels much better there. And, delightfully, pairs very well with D.Va!

This is not an advocation for one format over another, but I think it serves to show 1) what she does well, and 2) why she's weak in 5v5

What she does well

Her niche is that, among the ground tanks, she has maybe the strongest engage-disengage. None of the other ground tanks can move as freely along the ground as she can. She trades that for a weaker strength of presence at both short and mid/long ranges. This makes her feel like the rapid "get in/get out" character that the ground tanks have been missing (others have longer movement CD cycles, and instead use other tools to hold a position longer). Kinda like a ground Winston.

Where she fails

Right now, that trade of threat for mobility is a trade D.Mon is losing. Because

  1. Her threat at all ranges is simply TOO weak. Whether through damage or anything else, she simply isn't scary enough.
  2. Her movement fails in situations it really shouldn't. (Lunge is way too slow/short, and having no way to traverse equal high ground makes boosters barely any better than Rein Charge, and worse than Mauga charge)

Quick Fixes

Here's my wishlist for fixes that could be implemented very quickly. Some people are calling for a soft rework on some abilities (I don't entirely disagree) but here's what they could do basically right now:

  1. Lower CD on Gun, or refund CD if cancelled early
  2. Sword damage buffed to 65 or 70
  3. Lower gravity during boosters
  4. Booster speed up +20%, plus shield movement penalty down to 20%
  5. Distance on Lunge increased
  6. Wishlist that would likely take a little longer:
    1. wind up and wind down Animation on Lunge significantly decreased
    2. Animation time or Movement lockout on remech made far less punishing (It's a full 3 seconds, while D.Vas is like 1.8)

Extra Issues

Everyone noticed that she fell over SO easily in fights, and required insane healing. Turns out a lot of that is because of the bug where her shield literally doesn't work while the gun is active. So she'll likely feel much tankier once that's fixed. In the mean time, remembering to turn your gun off when you shield has helped immensely for me.

What exactly is D.Mon supposed to be doing

Look, I know, day one posting, I get it, but this is the first time in a long time a release character has felt this lacking in identity to me.

You have mobility, but it's not good enough to push the back line.

Your mobility is good enough to push space, but you don't have the sustain to hold it.

You have range, but it's not good enough to be very threatening on an angle.

You can't out brawl any brawl tanks, you can't outpoke any poke tanks, and you certainly can't outdive any dive tanks. Okay so then we ignore the tanks... But no verticality, so everyone just runs from you, and half of those who can't run from you can just out fight you.

I can't lie, she just feels so aggressively average at everything. It feels like she's as falls over the second she's against a team with the slightest coordination, or a halfway decent backline.

Idk, maybe one of y'all have cracked the code. If you have, enlighten me please.

They used D.Va's original classic skin!!

This might not matter to many people, but it makes me very happy. With a few exceptions, I think the original classic skins were FAR stronger than the ones introduced in OW2, and D.Va's change is particularly tragic.

Her old skin was iconic and did a far better job of conveying the cross between her job and her personality.

Very happy to see this design make a comeback in a new piece of media!

My thoughts on the 1-3-2 experiment

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Roadhog

Every single game, man. Having another tank to enable him exacerbates his worst aspects (of which there are many). Made worse by the fact that a DPS player is more likely to swap to hog than any other tank. If you queue'd tank and hoped for some fun Monkey Dva or Rein Zarya, that sucks, you're getting a Roadhog. And probably playing against one too.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but we SAID there were already too many queues

When 6v6 ranked and unranked came out, players raised concerns about queue sprawl

When Stadium first came out, players raised concerns about queue sprawl

When they split Stadium into two separate modes, players raised concerns about queue sprawl

The Stadium news is extremely disheartening, especially if you're a fan of heroes that you've been eagerly waiting for since the mode came out. This isn't just hindsight, we literally said this would happen and it will keep happening. It's not worth dwelling on "should have's" but PLEASE learn the lesson this time.

We were given something great some of us fell in love with it, but it's learning curve, high friction, and the existence of more familiar modes made it impossible to maintain, and now it's essentially dead. And some very simple lessons from the past could have avoided that:

  • Junkenstein's Lab was insanely hype for a short while
  • same with Stadium in its first season.
  • So then, fewer queues, more cool Limited Time Events.

That's it, that should be the big take-away. Please stop giving me cool shit only to kill it in front of me. Thanks.

Doomfist players, do you actually care about Empowered Punch's "power fantasy?"

If you have an opinion on it, please take this quick poll: https://strawpoll.com/e6Z2AjmoJgN

A lot of Doom players were kinda surprised to see the dev notes talking about the power fantasy of empowered punch. Generally, I think most Doom players just kind of accept Empowered Punch but care FAR more about the power fantasy of flashy movement and risky plays.

But maybe I'm wrong, so I wanted to ask and get everyone's thoughts.

I'm so sad that Cat's best build is also the most brain-dead

I've been enjoying Cat since she entered Stadium, and I particularly enjoying builds that let me optimize my positions to appear exactly where I'm needed, offer value then zip over to the next place. I like builds that emphasize risky, clever gameplay.

But I've noticed people taking Purr-sistence on round 1 a lot more and doing really well, so I decided to give it a shot and... ugh.

Just... It's literally free money. Just make Purr last forever, grab Territorial, Purr-imeter Expander, and Tomcat Reserves, and you get MVP every time.

There's absolutely nothing to this build either. The giant radius of Purr + the fact that you get value no matter who you hit + the insane healing it does to you means your whole gimmick of being a high mobility risky support goes right out the window. Just stand above the entire battle, click Shift occasionally, then use jets in place when Purr is on CD, and you just win.

Change wishlist

  • Hard nerf Purr-imeter expander or just remove it. Cat's whole thing is quick, clever rotations, so a tool that makes her positioning easier goes against the entire character
  • Just replace Purr-sistence, it's boring and uninteractive
  • Probably nerf territorial
    • Hot take, but territorial isn't actually the main issue. On its own, it turns the ability into a deeper utility that can do multiple things you have to choose between. The issue is the other powers/items that remove that choice. Use it for aggression and you're team probably loses out on crazy healing (which you likely can't do with your weapon if you're building AP)

I can't get over how good the Successors story was

Sahr Ngaujah is unmatched bro, this whole thing was genuine cinema and Sahr spun gold with that script.

The narrative itself was also really well crafted, beginning with his relationship to his predecessor, and then sliding to his story with vendetta mid-breath, that was so well done.

Anyway, I'm resisting the temptation too word-vomit a whole literary analysis, but I had to let out some hype for a bit. This was an S-Tier bit of lore, actually peak.

Overwatch events feel far too passive, they need interaction

One of my biggest critiques with the new events is that they can just sit in the background and be forgotten. You might click in later out of curiosity and find that you finished it entirely on accident. When I first saw this map in the trailer, I was intrigued, thinking we would be clicking along the path and choosing our rewards as we go.

Instead, we're given a boring "Option A, option B" menu sometimes, while the map passively completes itself. I don't even know what I've earned half of the time. My hope is that Overwatch takes note from the active-involvement battle passes and reward tracks of other games, where you can ultimately earn everything, but you choose when you get certain things as you go.

For Anima Strike, imagine in the map was a hex grid with rewards along each node and greater rewards near the center. As you progress, you can click back to the map, and actively choose the rewards you want, and build a path to your preferred major reward.

This approach makes the event feel real and active, like something you partake in. Additionally, the player is aware of what they earn, right when they earn it.

Edit:To clarify based on a few comments, I'm not suggesting that the event should take more play time. If anything, a few have been too grindy. Amount of gameplay should remain the same as Anima Strike. If someone doesn't care enough to choose their path but still wants rewards, it can also have a pre-determined path that gives you your rewards based on progress at the event's conclusion. With that, it would play no different that current events, for those who don't care to interact with it.

AI drivers undermines the spirit of this sport

Just saw the trailer and wanted to share some thoughts.

Despite how it appears on the surface, this sport is largely about celebrating human excellence as expressed through what we can build, and how well we handle what we build. I'm here to watch humans fight THROUGH their bots. Removing the human part of that equation removes the soul of the sport.

I understand the lines can get blurry when you start defining what does and doesn't belong, but I do believe the sport is strongest when humans are in majority responsible for the building and handling of their bots.

If the sport never again produced a legendary driver like Daniel Freitas or Matt Vasquez, it would be a damn tragedy.

If anyone with authority is ready this, please consider restricting the use of AI.

OW fan content going crazy lately - Animation by IzzyBn

I learned that a lot of fan art goes missed by this side of the community because it's ALL on Twitter, and most who aren't already on Twitter don't want to wade thought the cesspool to find the good stuff. So I'll bring some of it to you.

Shion's design - Start by asking why, stop assuming

We have seen several feminine/female-presenting Omnics in the lore, and none of them have been so outwardly human. This means her look is literally an anomalous thing in the established OW universe and that should raise your curiosity - what kinds of pressures or purposes could cause an Omnic to look like this? If no decent answer presents itself, then getting upset makes sense.

Some theories I've seen that could make sense:

  1. She modified herself to appear more human, to somehow serve her own purposes (we know some omnics do this, according to the pre-game interaction between Hazard and Ramattra)

  2. She was initially built as a pleasure/service model for elites, and killed/overthrew them when she awoke (her BNet lore blurb says she was once "held captive and controlled by others")

  3. Some combination of the two, perhaps making herself beautiful so she could get close to powerful humans and assassinate them

Given that recent pattern, getting a feminine Omnic with a traditional Omnic face first may have softened the reaction a bit, but let's not act like there's no chance something interesting isn't going on here.

They finally addressed the big "no magic" pain point with the Shimadas

It looks like the Dragons (and probably Kitsune as well) are technological projections from their weapons, and an invention of Kiriko's father.

Rescued kitten, likely only 6 weeks old, looking for feeding advice

Feeding advice for cats is already really uncertain, every guide I look at is different, but this is an extra-unique situation. Some friends found the little guy outside fighting for his life. Mom was nowhere to be found, and he looked like he hadn't eaten in far too long, so she's likely passed away. They nurtured him back to health, looked to house him, and he landed with us!

He's doing well by all measures. Vet says he's healthy, he's very playful, eating, moving, and sleeping well, all that good stuff. But he's also SUPER young, and probably hasn't been with his mom since the first few weeks of life which I know can cause issues. If you have any advice on what/how much he should eat, I would appreciate it!

Device: Galaxy Note 10.1 SM-P600

This is on the step where you flash the device with Heimdall using this command:

heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img --no-reboot

On this step: Install LineageOS on n1awifi | LineageOS Wiki

I'm assuming this is a storage issue on the device itself? Can I simply insert a larger microSD card, or is there something more specific I need to do?
