This past Thursday evening, I got a Chase Visa credit card fraud alert, asking if I had spent ~$1,300 at the Google store. I had not.

I called Chase Visa right then, and we shut down the credit card. (This is a huge hassle as my wife and I have almost everything on auto pay with this card and we will have to spend hours updating our payment info.) Chase Visa assured me we would not be charged. 

On Friday afternoon, I got an email from the Google store that a $1,300 phone was being shipped to a guy at his place of work in South Bend, Indiana. I clicked through to get more information about the order which included the guy’s personal phone number, which I verified through an online reverse phone number look up service.

I spoke with a Google employee and alerted them that this phone was still possibly being shipped despite the fraud and my having shut down the payment. They said they would “try” to cancel the order and no matter what, I would not be charged.

Now, three days later on Sunday afternoon, the charge still appears as pending in my credit card account.

Saturday morning, I realized I could click further into the order email to get FedEx updates and saw that the phone had already shipped. I saw that I had the option to cancel the shipment even though the guy at Google told me he would "try" to do that. So, I cancelled the order, and I also was able to insert a note that this phone was bought fraudulently with my credit card.

I looked up the business and I see that it’s a big enough company that they have a few buildings. I called the business number and found it’s a big enough business that they have an HR department. 

I would love to talk to the guy and tell him what a crappy scam artist he is. I would also like to know how he got my credit card info. (I was with my wife at her college reunion in that city six weeks ago.)

I don’t want to reveal my personal information in case he is the vindictive type. I have researched how I might be able to make an anonymous and untraceable call but don’t know if it’s worth my time or trouble to do it. Perhaps if I reach him at his work, he wouldn’t be able to access my phone number.

I don’t necessarily want to go to his higher-ups and possibly strip him of his job if he’s just trying to make a living or support a family, but I just can’t sit with him getting away with this fraud, on top of wasting all the time it will take for us to deal with this and to go through this worry- for him to just get away with this crap and experience zero consequences.

QUESTIONS:
Would the local police be interested in having this information on the guy, or would they not bother with such small scale stuff?

Would this guy's employer want to know he is using his place of work to conduct this kind of fraud? Does that expose his employer to some kind of liability?
Should I find out who his superior is at work and forward them all the incriminating information?

Any suggestions? What would you do?
