Here We Go!

Greetings from the top of Mt. Hood in Oregon. I climbed to the summit over the summer and had to bring my towel. I also got to spread some of my mother’s ashes who was also a HUGE Steelers fan and passed a couple years ago. This page showed me much love on that day as she passed on the last game of the regular season.

The photo of us together was taken in 2006 at my first regular season game on Christmas Eve against the rat birds. Front row, 40 yard line!!! I don’t know how she afforded it but I’ll never forget that day even though it ended with a very bitter 31-7 loss.

Also, I still have both beanies in that photo.

HERE WE GO STEELERS!!!

Long days and pleasant nights from Gilead, Maine.

We are on our cross country trip and I made sure to stop by Gilead, Maine. I know it’s just a small town in western Maine, but as a longtime King fan it felt like one of those obligatory roadside pilgrimages.

I also happened across Roland Lake in Michigan.

It’s made all the sweeter that I am again making my trip to The Dark Tower. We are on Wizard and Glass and Reap is almost upon us. My fourth time all the way through and my partner’s first.

Today is our Independence Day!

Happy Fourth of July.

As a kid watching Independence Day, I learned that America kicks ass, the Marines save the world, and Capt. Steven Hiller somehow ends up marrying a stripper.

Now, let’s be honest… Vivica A. Fox was absolutely smoking hot in that movie. So naturally, I grew up thinking that if I got a couple of college degrees, became a Marine officer, and generally had my life together, that was a perfectly reasonable career path.

Alas, no Jasmine for me.

Turns out Independence Day set more unrealistic expectations than the OSO.

Highway in Hiding

I was driving around the UP of Michigan and stumbled across this. I just happened to be wearing my SK patch on my hat.

Scrap Wood Project

I offered my meager woodworking skills to a fundraising silent auction. It got three bids and the winner was $30. I made a plant stand. It turned out okay, but I wouldn’t have felt comfortable directly taking money for it. The person liked it despite its flaws.

I had to use a circular saw to join the table top boards which worked out relatively well. I got lucky with being able to reverse cupping/bowing after I glued the tabletop pieces together by just putting a lot of weight on it for a couple days.

I definitely want to buy a table saw so when I do more projects I can reliably make straight/square cuts. I know using scrap wood didn’t help, but using a circular saw for all my cuts was a pain.

Seen on I-5

I saw these a while back just outside of Salem. It was the first time I’d seen an automated car on I-5. Also, how big of a fan do of the Scream movies do you have to be have your vehicle covered in stickers.
