Happy
First time pebble owner, and I'm really happy with them. I ordered two, from two separate batches, and they arrived together. I couldn't decide between the silver and blue and the black and red. I think I made a good decision to get both, because they both look awesome.
They arrived last Thursday and I've been playing around with them over the weekend. Love the colour schemes of the cases, and the built in animations on the OS. Setup was really easy, although some sort of 'quick start' guide would have been helpful. I ended up having to Google to confirm what function each button has (I'm totally new to pebbles).
Pleasantly surprised to find out that the music controls work with the BBC Sounds out of the box (I thought it would only work with the music app on my phone).
I'm happy with the display brightness. It's clear and sharp in sunlight and the back light isn't intrusive at night (it's like the backlight on an LCD watch, which is what I want at night).
I've raised a report for a possible bug, because the double tap to wake the backlight doesn't work consistently. I keep finding that it doesn't wake unless I press the back button, then double tap. I thought at first it was a conflict with notifications, but it seems to have the same issue irrespective of whether a notification has arrived since the last time I double tapped. I've switched to single tap to wake the back light, and that seems to work fine.
Battery life seems good so far. They arrived charged to 62%. I wore the black and red one for a couple of days and was messing around with settings and using the back light a lot, and have the heart rate monitor turned on and that one's battery is currently at 52%.
I was also pleased that the app seems to handle having two watches well. I booted the silver and blue one today for the first time and the app added all the apps that I have on the black and red one automatically.
For the moment, I've settled on the LCARS Stardate 'below decks' watch face. I think it looks clean and colorful, and it doesn't have animations running all the time. It doesn't seem to drain the battery much at all.
I'm probably going to end up upgrading my phone though. I'd hoped to use the Navi app, but it looks like it needs Android 16, because Google changed the way Google Maps handles notifications in Android 16 and it seems to need that functionality. I'm using an Xperia 1v, and Sony stopped updating the OS at Android 15. I'd probably have needed to upgrade soon though, because Sony stopped releasing security updates on that model in May.
As I'm in the UK, it was easier for me to get the Brotect screen protector. It fits OK. It could maybe do with being a tiny bit bigger, and the adhesive seems to have bled on to the edge of the protector, so it picks up dust, which makes the outline of the protector pretty obvious.
Having read the posts about people breaking their screens, I've tried 3D printing a couple of bumpers, but I think they cover too much of the case and the print layer lines ruin the look. Might try drawing up a more minimalist type like a Casio GShock 'bullbar' and see how that looks. Have Pebble published a 3D CAD file of the case that could be used to 'cut' a model to get a snug fit? I'm using Freecad.
