I have a PSP!

I've been holding off on buying a PSPs because I thought I was done with many of its games. Recently, I finally understood how the musou warriors games worked so now I'm excited to go through warriors orochi 1 and 2 on PSP. I am also excited to go through portable ops and peace walker again. I can never commit to a monster hunter playthrough so it's there as a courtesy to the shell.

Dug up my old Linux install discs from around 2012 right as Linux gaming was taking off. [Missing a bunch of them, some were lost to disc rot and other from neglect]

I burned these back when I was testing out different recommended distros, mainly because Humble Bundle started offering Linux backups and specifically mentioned Ubuntu support.

At the time, my computer was running an AMD Phenom processor with a GT 6200 GPU, and it struggled hard with a lot of games on Windows 7. I had been reading on some old tech boards that Linux was incredibly light on system resources and that Wine was capable of running Windows games. That planted the seed for me to make the switch.

Then Humble Bundle started dropping massive amounts of game bundles. Almost all of those came with a standalone Linux backup alongside a standard Steam key. What eventually pushed me completely over the edge into Linux gaming was the official launch of Steam on Linux. Being able to play that initial batch of Valve games natively actually gave me much better performance than I was getting on Windows 7.

Of course, it was not all smooth sailing. Even with tools like PlayOnLinux and Lutris offering community made installers for Wine, there was still a lot of friction. Some of the games I really wanted to play had backends that were just too tough to run through Wine at the time. The biggest roadblocks were usually DRM and anti cheat software. Honestly, I cannot even remember which specific games I was trying to force to work back then.

Ubuntu 12.04 and Mint 13 were the big recommendations at the time. Looking at these discs now, it is crazy to think about the hurdles we used to jump through. Today, Proton has completely streamlined playing games on Linux. Now you really just need to understand how much time you want to invest in fiddling with configurations versus how little friction you want to experience just to play a game.

What was your go-to distro back when Linux gaming was first getting mainstream traction?

Sometimes when the 110 south is packed, I get off the 4th Street exit and drive through Grand Lower. It always feels dystopian and sparsely populated. Feels like a street in cyberpunk or something.

I got a Wacom Intuos. After several sketches, I decided to make the Shambler my first full art project. I included the sketch layers in the second image so you guys can get an idea of how I put it together.

Got the new Sanwa OBS-M-1 Switches from ArcadeShock.

Built a new stick using a Bueno Woodwork case. It's got them OBS-M-1 switches. You know I don't fuck around so I also put in an OTTO V5 and a Brook Ultimate Fighting Board Plus Retro. Only the best.
