Trade Republic sent my crypto refund to a wallet that isn't mine. Anyone been through this?
Posting this to see if anyone has dealt with something similar, and as a warning for anyone sending crypto to Trade Republic.
I sent some ETH from an exchange to my Trade Republic deposit address. My account wasn't verified, so the transfer was rejected and they sent it back. Fine, it happens.
The problem is where the refund went. It didn't return to the address I sent it from. It went to a completely different address that I don't control.
I opened a ticket with Trade Republic and they say they're "analyzing it". I also contacted the exchange I sent from, and they confirmed the funds didn't go back to my origin address.
So far the support experience has been slow and mostly canned replies, and I still have no idea where my funds are.
Has anyone had a refund sent to the wrong address by an exchange or broker? Did you get it resolved, and what worked (formal complaint, regulator, something else)? Any advice is welcome.
Lesson for others: if you send crypto to a broker where your account isn't fully verified, expect a rejection, and keep every screenshot and record from the start.
