I miss the old style of casting they used to do
I get they cast all of these big name celebrities because one, a lot of them have done work with Steve Martin and Martin Short and it's to grab more fans of these actors/things the actors starred in to get into the show, but I miss when they used to cast smaller NYC actors. I don't know why, but it made the show have a certain NYC charm that you don't get from the big names. Tina Fey and Nathan Lane made sense because they're of SNL fame, which makes it keep that NYC charm. Plus, it was only a few guest stars here and there, not half of the new cast being big names. It also shines a light on actors most people wouldn't know about otherwise, Jackie Hoffman, James Caverly, Michael Cyril Creighton, all of these actors are genuinely some of my favourite parts of the show compared to if they just casted some big names as these characters instead of the actors they chose. I know it's because the show has gotten a lot bigger since S1 and all that but I kinda miss the early days when the show felt grounded in reality (Yes I am aware the plot itself isn't realistic, but that doesn't mean that other parts of the show weren't.)
