Good stuff. I’m sure some of you know of these guys. This is their best album imo.

EDIT: thank you for all the input, guys. I appreciate the honesty. And as expected, some of you are kinda on the same page I’ve been with em. That being said, I gave Virus a go on Spotify and it’s good enough to hold my interest at two front to back listens. I’ll prob order it on vinyl if all goes well. Usually takes me a solid 3-4 full spins before I pull the trigger on vinyl for an old album.

I’m an old dog, been listening to death metal since the early 90s. Carcass Heartwork on cassette back in 1993 changed my life. I’ve been huge on melodic death metal ever since. Actually, ALL death metal. Over the years there have been several bands which I was not floored with, but didn’t hate either. Certain bands grew on me and now I am a huge fan, Ulcerate would be a perfect example of that.
But one band that I’ve tried and tried again but am constantly left underwhelmed with is Hypocrisy. I figure they will eventually click but they still have not for me. I currently own their first two full lengths, and Final Chapter.

Would love some more intel from someone who absolutely loves them, what are some of the best songs? What is THE album to get? I will keep trying. And let me be clear: they aren’t bad by any means! It would be one thing if I said “this is terrible, how can people listen to this?” but it’s not the case with them. It’s more like “this is ok, yeah this could grow on me” but never does. lol. These guys definitely came in at the wrong time, grunge threw a stick in their spokes. Great album.

My baby girl, 9yo Havanese mix had some splenic growths and they got progressively worse these past few months. Side note: Yunnan Baiyao 100% works wonders. The vet initially gave her a prognosis of a month tops. Then I read about that herb and we ended up having a full 3 months out of her! If you’re on the fence about it and your pet has internal bleeding possibly.. get some. Worth every penny.

Ok so yesterday she had enough apparently. Did not want to eat, did not go near her water bowl. She kept staring at the corner of the room into nowhere and when outside to go potty, she would stare off at the horizon. It was time to go. I could tell. I felt it from her as well. I should probably also mention that I have NEVER experienced such a close connection with a dog before, or any animal period. I was a heavy alcoholic for 15 years and in 2016 I finally said that was it. Quit the booze, which wasn’t easy. But a month into my sobriety is when this little Havanese puppy came into my life. She chose me from the first second of meeting.

I don’t want to say she is what made me stay sober, because it’s obviously many factors but I would have to say 90% of the mental stuff? Yeah she was there for me. I credit her for keeping me sober all these years. I credit her for many things. It seemed like we could read each others minds.

So almost 10yrs of that lovely companionship came to a close yesterday. Yes I’m a big burly masculine guy, but rarely ever cry. I’m just not a cryer. But yesterday it all came out. I’m not ashamed of it at all, and it felt good afterwards. Like I was a tad lighter. The procedure went as described. She did not close her eyes when she finally passed and I don’t know why that image was stuck in my head but I did not like seeing her lifeless eyes. I must have taken a whole box of Kleenex to my face in the half hour I sat there after the fact. So draining. I knew this day was coming tho.

Coming home to no barking hit me a lot harder than anticipated. My eyes welled up with tears and I was just standing in the doorway hoping to hear maybe a ghost bark. Nope. Woke up this morning without my baby girl and that sucked. However, today being day #2.. I can tell you that maybe it’s 1% easier than yesterday was. I know grief is a process. I’ve prepared for this as well, have a book and been watching clips to keep myself mindful. Not only mindful in that I don’t want depression to spiral.. but also not to touch booze! I have 10yrs sober. I have zero desire for that in all honesty. It’s just not a part of my life anymore. But you know what is really difficult?

THE LONELINESS.

I am a middle age single man with no wife or kids. Siblings all 2-12 hours away. I have friends that I text with but they all have families. So I understand and I leave them be. But at my house? It was me and my baby girl. And now I got nothing. Here we go again with the waterworks.

Appreciate you reading this if you made it this far, and thank you. I would love any type of tips or advice regarding the loneliness. Even if I’m blasting my record player with the newest albums I love, it still is like a deaf hollow to the room. I know time heals all.. I’ve had dogs before, but nothing quite like this girl of mine. Thank you for reading.

Curious if anyone has done their own wildcat before, or have worked thru the paces and if so.. possibly some tips and tricks along the way?

In short, my idea is this: I’ve already got a .454 Casull Ruger, a .45 Colt Henry, and load hot HOT .452” type pills without issue, been reloading for years. A box of almost 200 pieces of .500S&W Magnum once fired brass fell into my lap. Hate to see that go to waste, so I was thinking neck it down to .452” and maybe do a single shot break action rifle with it? It be like a “.357 Sig” “.40 Super” type treatment. The result would definitely be a few more cc’s capacity than the already potent .454 Casull which I love. Just lookin for a little convo/guidance maybe. And looking local first and foremost because why not. I’m located in Arlington area btw.

I’m posting this because these guys remind me of a more youthful version of The Crown or early stuff from The Haunted but obv with some grind influence. It’s like thrash/grind? Either way it’s good. If I’m off base, lmk.

Tell me that verse riff doesn’t go hard asf holy shit, one of my top melodeath riffs of all time.

Was a huge fan of theirs and still have the first two albums on CD and the the third album on vinyl. Not for any reason, just didn’t listen to much ska at all for well over a decade. Death metal is why, but that’s unrelated lol.
So I recently spun that You Can’t Hide The Sun record and man that is just banger after banger.
415 in Progress, Dead End, If I Can’t Smoke or Swear I’m Fucked, etc.

Being stoked for new to me material, I check out their albums released in my absence and man, it’s just nowhere near the same level. Self Care and Ordinary Life were tough for me to finish. I can’t pinpoint the reason why either, but they just don’t have the same intensity as I remember loving in years past. Does anyone else share the same view? Or am I just tripping? If so, please tell me the song(s) that I need to revisit! And I know bands change, people change, etc. This can also work in the opposite direction aka Propagandhi post 2006 is leaps and bounds better than their 90s stuff, but I know that’s a polarizing topic as well haha I know!

So why does this warrant me making a post about it? Because there are such few amazing ska/punk bands that seem to check all the boxes and boy those first 2-3 albums of We Are The Union sure did! I’m forever a fan of those. Cheers.
