Hitchhiked 600+km round France in the past week.

And to that guy who thought i would give up on my tarp 1 week into travelling around France... I am still carrying and using it. Get it roond ye! Ive been here a month. 2 more to go. Or 1 more and maybe to the Netherlands for 1 month to smoke weed. Though you can buy THC-A cannabis flower in shops in France too so I have been getting HIGH.

Here's a few different cathedrals I have visited in the past week also. I did Puy du Sancy which is a dormant volcano in Central France. Big hills. Long hikes.

Been in France 2 weeks. 1 week of hitchhiking with a 30year HH veteran. Had to ditch him cos he is non functional autistic and intolerable.

Sure I am intolerable to him also as a Scot.

Now going to start my own hitchhiking adventure by myself. Im in Central/Southern France. Bretenoux. Where would you go? What would you go and see?

Have a few mountains a couple separate week long walking treks on the agenda but I still have 2 months.

How would you face this situation?

Puy du Sancy. Dormant volcanos. Pleasure to be here.

Puy du Sancy

La Bourboule, France.

My first hills and camping as part of a 3 month hiking and camping trek around France.

I have been cowboy camping for the past week around this area. Its been getting up to 35° which is more heat than this Scotsman has ever experienced. Sun blisters and burnt. Walking with a Czech guy who turned out to be a massive bigot. This trip has had it all so far and I am only a couple weeks in.

All packed for a 3 month vagabond hiking journey round France + further afoot if opportunity arises. Anyone got any advice for doing this in Europe/France?

Off to France. Travelling from Glasgow. Paris for a couple days. On to Lyon for a couple days. Then I am out in the wilderness. 3 months.

I have been outside living like this anywhere from 4 months to 9 months per year for over 13 years. I learned how to survive outside in Scotland.. where we have some of wettest and harshest weather of anywhere in the UK. Tarps are my favourite mode of living.

£3.95 Sainsburys Meal Deal.. with a side of Happy Shopper chocolate & 2L sparkling water. What ya think?

On the bus travelling from Glasgow to Aberdeen to visit my mum for a few days before I head off on a 3 month hiking trip in France.

I got a sneaky 2L of sparkling water and I had a Happy Shopper large bar of chocolate so I didn't need to get a sweet or juice juice.

Does anyone know what company is responsible for Maryhill Housing Association electricity, repairs and cleaning the closeys? I cant remember the name.

EDIT - SORTED - AVOID MARYHILL HOUSING ASSOCIATION.

These fuds have missed an appointment twice already. An appointment was made for today weeks ago because ive been in the Lake district camping for 3 weeks.

I have been on the phone to then twice last week, yesterday and this morning. All to clarify that this appointment was being kept. I am away on another long camping trip next week but also away up to Aberdeen till Sunday to see my mum. I then leave on Tuesday.

Ive recorded all the calls from weeks ago till now. Reason being is they have threatened a forced access and will try and make me pay for it. Even though these cnuts have missed an appointment twice so far, if they do not come today in the next hour that is 3 appointments made that have not been kept by them.

I want this companies number so I can phone them directly to see where the fook they are. These guys are potentially gonna make me cut a lifelong dream of a hiking trip in France and/or force access to my house and make me pay for it. I am pretty livid at this point. The maryhill housing offices are closed now so I cant even get a hold of them until tomorrow morning but I am gone at around 12.30pm tomorrow.

Any advice on this?

Been growing out my beard into a pointy goatee more or less. It was more akin to a goatee before when i first started it but its definitely more beard than goatee now.

Had a tash most of my adult life. Not sure whether to keep growing out a beard? Whether to make a legitimate goatee beard combo? Or shave the beard off and keep the tash? Or shave it ALL off..

Am i getting away with it? Any advice? Looks a bit loppy here, i didnt shape it up before the picture.

Forever in libraries charging my gear.

Came to the Lake District for 3 weeks to try out my new gear such as a new tarp, also to make sure everything still works fine and isn't gonna fail instantly in a 3 month trip around France/the alps next month.

Tarp set up tonight. Lake District.

Tarp set up. 3rd night ever in a tarp. Its not been bad. Been a bit cold for May. Luckily I brought my thicker/heavier sleeping bag.

I've struggled a bit for sleep the past 3 nights though due to my tyvek bivvy bag sliding down the inflatable mat.

I need to pay closer attention to getting reasonably flat ground so it has influenced where I've set up tonight. Its the less discrete location BUT still way out the way nobody should bother.

Turner Lightweight Tarps Silpoly. Handmade in the UK. Great bit of gear. Best tarp i could find bar a dyneema one thats 4x the price. Feck that.

About to embark on a 3 week trek around the North West of England in the Lake District. Trying out new gear for a European 3 month trek I begin in June. First time using a tarp.

There's a Cicerone Press booklet with a trail in it named the Tour of the Lake District. Its about 100 miles and a circular route around the entire area of the Lake District.

I did it last year but 1 month isn't enough time to explore the area so I have decided to do it again. I can get some miles in my legs and try out my new gear.

I have never used a tarp and used an X Mid 1 last year. I love the tent but I was looking for an even lighter option but also one that is more adaptable. If I chose the X Mid again I would get the 2P. You need to find a space large enough to fit the tent in and I do not believe the space inside a 1P makes up for the overall footprint.

I spend months away at a time and can potentially be in the tent for days at a time waiting out weather, in those moments you need a bit of space.

This propelled me to go down the tarp route. It is much lighter and it is more adaptable to changing situations. The potential of how to set up a tarp and where you can set it up is endless.

My questions are, has anyone ever had any major issues whilst using a tarp? Has anyone tried a tarp and then reverted back to a tent due to a negative experience? What compromises has anyone made to get used to a tarp in the beginning? What's everyone's favourite tarp set ups for whatever situations you've faced?

I am also curious about this.. when I leave for France in June, it will be the first time I have ever left Scotland/the UK to go on a prolonged, long distance hike. I am excited and positive about it but I am also nervous. What was everyone's first experience of doing a long distance hike in another country? Any stories? Any advice?

I have done the measurements and it fits but I cannot stop thinking about EasyJet being annoying about it so I need someone to relieve me of this annoyance.

Doing a 3 month EU trip starting with France in June. Flying in from Glasgow. About to do a 3 week leg warmer in the Lake District to try out my new gear and get some miles in my legs.

Going to the EU from Scotland in June, starting in France to do some trails outside of Lyon and meet a friend I met in Fort William last year.

I have measured using a tape measure and it fits the measurements given BUT I cannot stop thinking about it.

Has anyone had any issues?
