Old games with dedicated server

I've been brainstorming a bit about how I'd set up a LAN party.

Right now I'm looking for games from the late 90's and early 00's that have a dedicated server variant that I could host in a central server.

I know of Unreal Tournament, Quake 3 Arena, OpenTTD (not totally retro, but based on a 90's game), but after those I'm a bit stuck.

Anybody have good suggestions?

Disappointed with Endorphin

Well, about a week ago I posted that I completed the conversion of my E5+ to Endorphin Stage 1.

Cheap to do, easy enough. And since I was already running Klipper, it was just a single line to change in the configuration.

After trying to get it working properly for a week, I found that the pushing and pulling forces for the X-carriage cause the right side of the two Y to move slightly.

I swapped wheels from regular POM to polycarbonate ones, changed belts from fibre core to steel core belts, did lots of wheel tension adjustments and cranked the belt tension up to uncomfortably high levels.

It all helped a little bit, but the deformations on the prints was still there. In the back-left to front-right direction, the line spacing was slightly larger than it should be, and in the back-right to front-left it was closer than it should.

When doing the X-axis resonance test, it started out that the right side Y carriage moved back and forth visibly. After all the trying to adjust, it wasn't as much visible, but I could still feel it moving back and forth.

All in all, I think stage 1 is definitely not the way to go. Maybe stage 2 is better, but I'm not even gonna try.

While it did push me to do the wheel and belt upgrade, I am a bit disappointed. Putting things back the way they were (except for the wheels and belts) and I'm gonna start collecting parts to do the Mercury One mod.

Endorphin stage1 done 🙂

Just happy, wanted to share. Did some maintenance and converted my Ender5Plus to Endorphin Stage 1.

Works immediately by just changing the kinematics type in Klipper. Now running some calibrations.

LRS-600 mount for E5+

Decided to upgrade the stock 500watt PSU to a nice MeanWell 600watt (LRS-600N2-24), but found that it wouldn't fit in the spot of the stock PSU because the screw holes don't line up.

So I made a pair of adapter plates to bridge that. Also moves the PSU backwards so the line voltage selector stays accessible.

Elegant Laptop Stand

Recently, I designed a simple and elegant laptop stand.

Someone brought to my attention that it won't fit on fairly common size 3D printers, like an Ender3.

So, here's an update!

I made the legs printable in two parts that friction fit together. The connection between the two parts of the leg is gets hidden and boxed in inside the crossing for a clean look.

Since it is modeled to be a friction fit, it might need a tickle with sandpaper depending on how accurate your printer is.

In need of ideas

I've set up a small server for my folks. Running a VPN and Pihole right now, but I'm struggling to find more useful things to host on it.

It's an old Prodesk 600 G1 with a Haswell Pentium CPU, 4GB RAM and a 120GB SATA SSD.

They already have a NAS, so storage tasks aren't needed. One of the purposes of the VPN is to offload photos to the NAS while they're on vacation.

I thought about HomeAssistant, but there's no smart switches or anything in the house to control. I'd need to buy some for that, and I might if I can find something that's cheap enough.

Beyond that, I'm just out of ideas but it feels so underutilized. Anyone have some cool ideas?
