Get your eclipse earnings posted in the mega-thread!

Tomorrow morning at around 8AM will be the cut off for the Eclipse Extravaganza!

Looks like it could be all to play for as the guy who had the highest amount so far (just over £20) was banned by Reddit for some reason, I think it may have spammed his earnings in to many other subs and got caught by Reddit’s spam filtering.

Please submit screenshots of your earnings into the mega-thread, the top three spots will receive a unique flare to show off to everyone else how amazing their setup is!

MegaThread - Solar Eclipse Export Event Results!

Wanted to do something fun, please use this thread as the place to post all Solar Eclipse Export results as they filter in over the next few days. I am very interested to see what people can achieve over a 2hr window.

  • Post your submission as screenshot from your email or from your dashboard. *just make sure to obscure any personal info*

The top three people who have the highest amount of export during the 2hr period will get a unique sub-reddit flair (did you know we have flair options?!) to them to show how much better they are than all of us.

I look forward to seeing the results!

New - Short Notice Events

Axle are pumping out a lot of features at the moment! Just received the below email.

https://vpp.axle.energy/landing/short-notice-events

>
We're introducing short notice events, a new type of event we'll occasionally call when the grid needs support at shorter notice than usual. You'll typically get at least 2 hours' warning before one starts.

They work just like your regular events: your battery is dispatched to support the grid, and you still earn £1/kWh for the energy you provide. The only difference is a bit less advance notice.

Participation is completely optional, and you’re opted out by default.

To take part, simply go to your account settings, switch on short-notice events and you'll be opted-in to all future short-notice events.

First attempt at upgrading the Voice Edition Preview - as a backup does anyone know the JST connector type?

I can't seem to find any accurate details on if the JST connector inside the Home Assistant Voice Edition Preview is a 1.25mm or 2mm JST connector.

I recently tried my first job at wiring up a taken apart Amazon Echo Dot Gen 3 speaker, to say the least my first time soldering was poor to be generous.. it works and sounds great.... but I thought for in the event my solder joints fail a more robust solution would be to just find a speaker that has a JST connector on it already that I can plug into the board and then design a 3D enclosure for it.

Guide I followed was here for those interested - https://github.com/glbailey/Voice-Assistant-EE/wiki

I use Home Assistant and Music Assistant to play me random music each morning for my alarm from a playlist, so just covering off those joints failing and me not waking up in time!

For those that want to see my poor first attempt, you can witness it here and flame me - https://imgur.com/a/xkRWexk

My excuses as follows:

  • The flux in my kit was the hard type flux & I'm really not sure if I got a good amount on the pads, I need to get some liquid flux.
  • The pads were very close together...
  • The cheap iron I did buy didn't seem to stay hot for very long and even though I did tin, the iron, wire and pad. It seemed to struggle to then melt them all.

Going to buy some dummy boards, wires and such to do some more practice on... any tips appreciated!

The small changes!

Every now and again when I withdraw the balance, I take a look to see if there is anything new on the Axle account page.

Seems they have now added an 'Event Coverage' panel, which is quite interesting in seeing which areas are getting the event you're involved in.

A nice little feature I think! Thought I'd share as I think it's neat.

What are some places in the UK that people will look back on and wish they could have visited in 2026?

Went to Cambridge again this weekend reminded myself of how lovely of a place it is. The Fitzwilliam museum is beautiful and I'd love to have seen lots of Cambridge in its various hay days, when they were originally built.

It got me thinking, are there places in the UK that have been built recently that you think people will look back on and just like me, wondered what it would have been like in 2026?

Would love to visit some modern marvels this country has to offer!

Somehow KOReader got me reading again

When I was younger I always had a book in my hands, but through my late teens and into my 20s I totally dropped the ball & ended up getting a bit too into my screen time. Got a Kindle in my mid 20's and would go through a few weeks at a time of reading singular books.

Now I'm in my 30's and have been actively reducing all ways that my devices try to grab my attention (mainly coming off anything with short form content) and making my phone as boring as possible and just simply leaving my phone alone. It's been going really well.. nature is healing....

I saw the DammitJeff video a few months ago about jailbreaking my Kindle and the ability to tweak and use plugin's like SimpleUI. Once installed it flicked a switch in my mind. Not having to see ad's every time I turn the device for other books or on the lock screen & having a clutter free home page made we want to constantly pick up my Kindle.

Pair that with the easily viewable stats & a HardCover direct tie in and I've not been reading everyday for the past few months, it's now part of my routine & I'm loving it.

Not much to say other than thank you to everyone who's involved and has been making plugins for the system, it's nice to be ridding my mind of endless scrolling.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Session tomorrow - 21:30 to 22:30

Tomorrow is this latest session I've seen since joining. Usually see 7-8am or 7-8pm but not much outside of that.

Anyone else seen anymore obscure times before?

I also got my Home Assistant Notification a good hour or so before the email, which is new as the email usually arrives before I see in Home Assistant.

Earnt £90 now since joining, it's pretty much offsetting the drop in Octopus export for my winter heating surplus.

What to buy for a pasta maker as a gift?

Hello all!

I love pasta but I've never got into making it myself, my parents on the other hand have after a recent trip to Italy have really gotten into pasta making.

My sister and myself have found a pasta roller similar to what they used, but we wanted to find them some ingredients or other bits to get them going when they open it up.

Wanted to know if anyone could suggest any supplemental bits we could get them along with the pasta roller.. Books, tools, ingredients etc

Thank you everyone for your help :)

A moderated sub for Classic MG's

Over the past few months having just got into the MG community I noticed that as the sub's moderation team seem to be MIA (no images allowed in comments, off-topic posts not being removed) that trying to start an alternative community may be helpful for those who want to discuss all things classic MG on Reddit with a bit more involvement.

I know there are lots of specific MG/ Rover forums but I do really like Reddit as a place to easily discuss all my interests in one place vs having to sign into many forums each day.

So I have made r/MGClassics - the aim is for this just to be focused on the UK made MG's, with the modern cars being served by their own sub's.

I don't want to be the gate keeper of such a community as I may miss things as we all have lives, so if you have modded before or would be interested let me know!

It's a very simple setup at the moment, while things are small, there naturally won't be the wealth of knowledge of large groups, but hopefully it can grow!

Here is an image of my TF at MG's in the Park from this past weekend. What a great show it was if anyone else attended!

Looking forward to welcoming anyone who wishes to join!

Welcome to MG Classics!

MG Classic was started to focus on a moderated community of all classic MG's here on Reddit.

Post's are to be focused on UK made cars, the more modern cars have their own dedicated sub-reddits already.

Would be great to get things started off with an introduction, please let us know what MG you own! Maybe a photo of two also!

Here is my 2003 TF, in Le Mans Green, with a Oxford Tan interior with wood trim. Looks great from a distance but want to focus on getting the paint to a great standard and starting to replace out lots of old nuts and bots, hinges and such,

Some details on my car:

  • S/S Piper quad tail pipe exhaust (sounds mega)
  • Adjustable Lowered suspension, w/ poly suspension bushings (need to get under the car to see what make it actually is)
  • Upgraded Head Gasket
  • SS coolant rails and new cooling hoses
  • SS subframe mounts

IE now seem to support in-specie transfers to Trading 212!

I've been tracking this for the past year or so on the forums (https://community.investengine.com/t/in-specie-transfer-out/889/136), it now seems according to this employee that you can now move to T212 in one swoop without the need to go to FreeTrade.

I just need to wait for my bonus period to end and then I will consider if I do actually wish to move.

3D Printed MG TF Seat Belt Guides

Ever since I got my TF a few months ago I've been chomping at the bit to find some accessories or bits I can design and 3D print.

Well while looking through eBay I saw there are a few machined seat belt guides, as it's very much non-structural, I thought 'hay I can save myself a few quid here', not to dimiss the great work of the people who designed and machined the metal parts as the finish is very different to 3D printing.

Anyway, I spent a short while mocking something up in CAD and fired it off to the printer! Results are attached & it worked really well!

The part I really like to this is that in theory you can tweak these to the colour of your seat, your car or whatever you wanted. The example below is just a pinkish colour that I use for concepts. I will probably try one as black and another to try and match the seats.

Currently no grub screw is needed as I made the tolerence tight enough that with a small amount of force it slides over the headrest post and is pretty secure there.

Next steps will be to refine the overall shape and soften it off a bit & see if I can build in some cool bespoke tweaks (names, car name, inlay for emblems etc).

If people are interested, once I'm happy with the design I'll make it available to download then print off a batch and bring some to any MG shows I visit over the summer & give out for free.

Hi All,

I've been using simpleUI for a few weeks now, I see in the latest version it now has an update feature.

I tried to do a brief look, but is there a way to keep all my simpleUI settings to update to this latest version or do i need to re-build everything?

I see a mention on previous reddit posts to delete the previous folder and paste in the new one but just wanted to check if it possible to save all my data and port over.

I appreciate this is basic stuff, but I'm trying to learn more about car upkeep and maintenance, so I'd appreciate any tips!

My partners car has a few paint chips (thin Mazda paint), I bought a paint pen from Mazda, but realised they are a bit rusty as I went to do it.

What should I do to prep the area? Use an iron remover spray and give it a little rub, or is there something else I should do?

Thanks for any advice!
