Securing the outdoor enclosure

Tips on securing the floor of an outdoor enclosure from predators while also keeping the floor soft or natural for their feet? Bonus points for convenient fixes as we are expecting to move soon and don’t want to put too much energy into a solution that can’t easily come with us, so digging it into the ground won’t really work.

Advice on prevention of cross contamination between quails and cats?

Sorry to post twice in the same day — it was a whirlwind of going from 0 birds (or interest) to 3 in 24 hours. They seem happy and are doing well so far.

We have two older indoor cats. What’s your advice for preventing cross contamination when we have contact with the quails and then come inside? Is the only foolproof option to strip out of our clothes and wash our hands outside?

Any advice appreciated. Thank you!

[Picture for quail tax purposes. They’re settling into their temporary enclosure. They got free range time today under our supervision, as well as sand baths, and loved it.]

Quail “rescue”

My partner and I have no experience keeping quail, but a sweet one (Cortunix) wandered into our yard. After no luck finding her home, we’d like to keep her and give her a nice life, however long that is. I recognize that this isn’t the typical way that folks keep quail (we’re happy to use her eggs).

That being said, how would you fashion a “quail rescue”? We figure we’ll have to get her some friends. We have a coop with a run on the way. But any and all ideas based on what you know about keeping quail, that aren’t necessarily based on strategies for maximizing them as a product, are appreciated.

Thanks all!

UPDATE: I got her two sisters. We will start with 3 until our coop setup is ready. Two got a sand bath and loved it! (The third, our original who started this journey, doesn’t seem to totally know how to “bird” and didn’t take to the bath). They got some free outdoor time under our supervision where they seemed to enjoy stretching their legs and hunting bugs.

We are concerned about predators (feral cats, raccoons, foxes, snakes) and plan to take them inside at night (again, until their coop arrives). They seem ok with this weather. Their cage is in the shade against a wall on two sides, and an umbrella on top. We also added a box fan for some more air movement.

They have a bed of cardboard bottom topped with straw, a water feeder, and feeder with 30% protein crumbles.

Any other advice on this setup is welcome.

What was your favorite film in a policy class?

Students and educators, what films do you recommend for a master’s level social work policy class? Think of anything that stuck with you over the years, or that you found incredibly poignant, or impactful.

TIA!

What would you do to throw a simple baby blanket together?

Basically the title. What stitch or simple pattern would you use to easily and quickly crochet a baby blanket? Beginner to advanced beginner ability. Bonus points if you include what yarn weight or type you recommend.

Thanks a million 😊 cheers

Too many Megans

Was at my local Celtic fest this weekend and literally this moment happened.
Someone shouted, “Megan!!!” and several turned their heads. My partner and I had a good laugh about it 🤣

My love of the Irish is well documented.

☘️💚☘️💚☘️💚☘️💚🔸🧡🔸🧡🔸🧡🔸

Criss, watch this.
Megan! Megan!

Look at them spin around. They're so confused.

Awesome. It's too many Megans, right?

WWYD? Cleat help

I currently have cleats compatible with Crank Bros eggbeaters on my shoes.

I recently inherited a Trek Fx 1 hybrid bike with Rock Bros pedals.

I have some confusion about how cleats work. Are my cleats compatible with other pedals?

Should I replace the pedals to be compatible with my cleats, or replace the cleats to match the pedals?

(Looking online, I’m having trouble finding only cleats to buy that go with the Rock Bros pedals)

((I don’t currently have the eggbeaters pedals to switch onto the hybrid bike))

TIA

Hi!!! I’m so excited I finally get to make this post for my upcoming trip. I always appreciate seeing the feedback y’all provide on these posts.

I’m doing 3 weeks in late June-mid July, the bulk is in Scotland and the rest in Ireland. I will be spending time hiking, sightseeing, and trekking around cities (2 fancier experiences planned).

Misc: toiletries, headphones, e-reader, sleep mask, chargers, packable tote bag, laundry detergent strips

Wearing on plane:
Lightweight waterproof walking/hiking shoes, joggers, cotton t shirt, lightweight zip up, trench raincoat, compression socks, merino wool bra

Thank you so much!!!

Overdrive/Libby Confusion

Hello all. I’m loving having a Kobo Libra Colour, I’m reading more than I have in years. I’ve had it about a month. I exclusively use Overdrive to borrow books. I’m having confusion about the borrowing process.

Am I correct in understanding that books can only be borrowed or placed on hold using my Kobo (and not my phone’s Libby app)?

I’m a little confused that I put books on hold via Overdrive on Kobo, but it will notify me as available on my Libby phone app (and not on Kobo).

Any insight as to why the hold will say “available soon” and weeks have passed without movement? I am syncing daily.

Thank you all and happy reading!!

How do you keep everything straight? First play through

Hi all, I’m on my first play through. My gaming experience is limited to a few other games over the years so I’m not well versed in skills or knowledge in navigating gameplay.

I’m LOVING BG3 but I’m finding it overwhelming to 1) keep all the quests straight and 2) competently navigate the map with 1000 indistinguishable quest markers on the map.

For example, I find Skyrim intuitive, easy to keep the quests straight, and like that I can limit the quest markers.

Does anyone else feel the same? What tips do you have for managing this? TIA!

I feel insane. I vividly remember Jordan Klepper interviewing someone and saying, “can you get a butt pregnant?” But I can’t find it anywhere on the internet. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

For about a month now I’ve been waking up to an alarm clock rather than my phone. I also have my phone charging across the room and don’t keep it near my bed anymore. I’m able to wake up easier and don’t feel like I need to scroll on my phone to wake up. Progress made!!
