Inspired by this post: Weather Permitting
It uses tropes and genre hallmarks to make you think you're playing a psychological horror game set in a school, so you're suspicious of everything. It even gives you the mechanics to investigate for clues, pick lockers, interrogate people in dialogue, etc., but there's no mystery. Nothing supernatural happens. The weird occurrences all have logical explanations and the "weirdly" friendly girls are just trying to get to know you better as a new student.
The more investigative you are, the more the other characters become concerned for your mental health, and you can even get in trouble for invasion of privacy. If you don't investigate, though, you can easily just flirt with classmates, get good grades, and build a healthy social and romantic life.
Beautiful noble maiden? Nah, you get to marry a hardy farm girl who may or may not be your cousin (genealogy isn't tracked very well around these parts).
I feel like we lost something with the taming of the wild wild west.
Let's just draw a box somewhere in the less populated parts of the country, and within that area, no laws apply. Crime is legal. Don't wanna be part of the perpetual purge, don't go in the anarchy zone. It'd be well marked off with signs so nobody enters it accidentally.
"I can't believe she missed a date to go fight some demon lord. And she came back with an ugly scar!"
Call it, "People Getting Injured and Breaking Laws: The Musical."
