How much of your past should be disclosed unprompted ?

I’m not referring to things affecting a relationship in the present such as addictions, mental illness, physical illness or debt nor about things a partner directly asks about. I believe those should be disclosed and answered truthfully.

My question is more so about if there is something shameful in your past and no longer an issue you are facing in the present should that be shared unprompted?

For context:
5 years ago during the pandemic I was severely depressed with no friends and no partner. Therapy and meds were not helping. Out of desperation, I decided to pay for sexual services from escorts on a given day. I view what I did on that day as immoral and dangerous and I’m disgusted in myself for crossing that line. I was also only thinking about my pain instead of the fact I was exploiting someone for gain.
I was recently seeing someone for 2 months. We were moving past the getting to know each phase towards a serious relationship. I decided to disclose this information to her and understandably she chose to immediately end the relationship.

Was it unnecessary to share this information with her or did I do the right thing ?

Depressed man looking for advice

Hi all could use some advice or prayers. I’m 31 male Christian. I’m a severely depressed and autistic who constantly wishes for my life to end. I’ve tried therapy, medication and healthy habits to no benefit. I have trouble connecting with God due to my illness and because I watch pornography to silence my distressed mind. I have trouble connecting with people as well because my brain shuts down in crowds.

I suppose I’m wondering if people know how one can cope with something like this? To constantly feel disconnected from God and others

Post break up awkwardness

Curious how others have dealt with post break up awkwardness when you see an ex at church? It was short term relationship of 2 months which ended awkwardly after I disclosed to her my previous sex history. I am a bit disappointed but not angry. No idea how she feels

Christian man who lost virginity to escort

I’m a 31 year old man. I had sex for the first time with an escort 5 years ago. I feel awful about myself and the fact I encouraged someone to continue in that profession by paying them. I feel awful I will have to disclose this to any person I date. I feel awful I didn’t wait till marriage. As for the circumstances that led to the decision: I struggle with severe mental health issues: severe depression, autism and social anxiety that hasn’t responded to medication or therapy. I often wish I were dead and for God to take me.

I would appreciate any advice. Would you remain celibate if you struggled with a sin like this and mental health issues?

Autism group conversations

I have an issue where my mind shuts down in group conversations. All the laughter and noise becomes too much for me. Not knowing when to jump in when it’s circle time. The anxiety over people are noticing how inactive I am. I end up just masking by mimicking people’s reactions. Smiling when people laugh. Nodding when someone makes a point I have no idea what it means. It gets to a point I can’t even process the words people are saying.

I’m curious how do people cope in such group settings. It seems alcohol is the only thing that calms me down enough so I can focus on speech.

AITAH for breaking up with my girlfriend due to financial concerns ?

I (30M, Canadian) was in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend (25F, American) for about 7 months.
I genuinely loved her and couldn’t stop imagining a future with her. We got along well, shared similar values, and there weren’t any major relationship problems between us.

The issue was her financial situation. She had approximately $250,000 USD in student loan debt from pharmacy school. She had studied to become a pharmacist but failed her licensing exam twice. After that, she decided not to continue pursuing pharmacy and instead took a job as a clinical researcher making about $75,000 per year.

I know $75,000 is a respectable salary, but I became extremely anxious about the debt-to-income ratio and what that would mean if we eventually married. On top of that, we were already facing the challenges of an international relationship, including immigration, visas, and deciding which country we would live in. It was a debt that would continue for the next 30 years which was making me lose my mind.

The more I thought about combining immigration stress with a quarter-million dollars of debt, the more overwhelmed I became. Eventually I ended the relationship.

Now I wonder if I was unfair. Part of me thinks I was being practical about a serious financial issue that would have affected both of our futures. Another part of me feels guilty because she didn’t do anything wrong and I ended a relationship with someone I loved because I was afraid of what our future might look like.

AITAH ?

Edit: I appreciate all the feedback. Yes we discussed finances over several months. I think all this was a learning experience that I have a poor tolerance for financial issues.
