Looking for new series to watch

I think I'll just start off by listing the shows I've enjoyed the most:

  • 10/10 rating:
    • Shogun
    • Peaky Blinders
    • Vikings
    • Game of Thrones
    • Sherlock
    • Chernobyl
  • 9/10 rating:
    • The Last of Us
    • Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
    • Narcos
    • The Witcher (season 1)

I honestly don't watch TV a whole lot, but it's partially because there are so many TV series these days and I have a hard time to decide what to watch.

I tend to enjoy historical and fantasy stuff the most. Sci-fi and everything related to science are also appreciated. Nolan is my favorite movie director, so those vibes in a TV show would go hard as well.

Sitcoms and romance aren't really my thing, neither is anything where all the drama is caused by sleeping around and doing other dumb stuff while in a relationship. I've also noticed I tend to favor shows that aren't entirely US-focused (I can make exceptions here ofc, but I don't generally find modern American culture all that fascinating (sorry)).

Hopefully you guys have some suggestions.

Thanks!

Extracting Movies Bought Through Microsoft?

https://preview.redd.it/nyyeiv240ijh1.png?width=561&format=png&auto=webp&s=760cd1ad2eabd16eb74c93142e80564601c5c7b1

A few years ago I ended up buying LOTR Extended editions from the Microsoft Store, as I figured it's the easiest way to have access to them for good, and with good quality.

However, seeing that apparently companies can just delete bought and owned products from your digital libraries (essentially stealing from the customer), I'd like to protect my purchase.

I have all three movies downloaded from the movie software in .mp4 format, but they seem to have some sort of protections over them (for example, I couldn't remotely stream them from my PC to TV without buying a HDMI cable and using my TV as the main monitor).

I'm relatively new to the piracy stuff, so apologies if this is trivial. But is there some way to completely detach the downloaded files from Microsoft to ensure owning them permanently?

Thanks.

Best Sunday roast in Inverness?

Hello!

I'm visiting Inverness in a couple of weeks and since I'm going to be there on a Sunday I thought I could get a good Sunday roast while I'm there.

Maybe you guys would have some recommendations for a good Sunday roast spot in Inverness? Preferably within walking distance from the railway station.

Thanks!

All modules fully maxed w/ 2x DC

Took 2 years and 3 weeks total, but I finally managed to get every single module to 5* Ancestral.

The only double mod I have is DC, both of which are 5* now.

Let's hope they add additional stars to mods soon.

Olen puurasisti

Windows Notepad alternative that sticks to my desktop and stays open?

https://preview.redd.it/nwhhgerknt6h1.png?width=2283&format=png&auto=webp&s=32dba1da7b703a3721f00b30c47a1e45f2725140

I've always just used the standard Notepad (and sometimes Notepad++) for putting down notes, but it has the problem that I need to keep them open or I'll forget about them. And that requires me to not shut down my computer. So it's not a very handy solution for taking notes.

What I'd like is some kind of a super simple notepad where, instead of being individual windows I need to save and reopen every time I start my computer, they could just stick to my desktop and stay open there, and be there even after I restart my computer. Like if you slapped sticky notes on your screen except they don't block anything or ruin my monitor.

Is there any software that would accomplish that? Something like in the picture. I'm using W10.

Albums for expanding my music taste

Hello!

So let's start with my current music taste, which consists prog rock, various metal genres (prog, folk, power metal to name a few), and pre-90s stuff more diversely, but still mainly in the rock-ish side.

I feel like I'm a bit out of touch with the rest of the music space, so I thought I could use some recommendations. As a broad outline:

  • I definitely prefer more moody and more emotional music over happy, fast-tempo music.
  • I appreciate uniqueness and... weird? sounds and just generally music that benefits from active listening rather than having it as background music.
  • I have an aversion to songs where the message is "I have money and bitches", or something equally superficial and egocentric.
  • Other than that I'm very much willing to explore different types of music from classical to roots reggae to Indian techno. As long as it's respectable within its own genre.

I'd appreciate suggestions that include the genre, album, and even your favorite song from that album. If there's anything to know about the artist/album before listening, feel free to tell me!

Thanks!

High quality earbuds for traveling

Hello!

I have a pair of JBL Live Free NC+ TWS earbuds I've used for like... 5 years? They've worked okay, but the sound quality still leaves some room for improvement, particularly in terms of depth. Music doesn't sound all that immersive with them. So I thought it'd be a good time for a replacement, since I'm going for a longer trip this summer.

I know there are trade-offs I must make, as not everything can be gotten with one pair of earbuds. For example being wireless and having ANC already means having a worse sound quality.

But if I did want a good pair of earbuds for traveling, that are pleasant enough even in an airplane or a bus, but with a sound quality that's satisfying, for preferably under 200€, that's what I'd like some recommendations for. Bonus points for durability and battery life (if wireless).

Sound quality with earbuds?

I switched from Spotify to Tidal a few months ago. While I mainly use my proper headphones at home, they're a bit bulky to take with me while traveling. So like most people, I have bluetooth earbuds for that.

However, I've noticed that with Tidal the earbuds I use don't really provide any... depth, or oomph? While Tidal sounds better with my studio headphones, Spotify seems to sound miles better with earbuds.

I tried tinkering with my phone's EQ and Dolby Atmos settings, but nothing really helped. The music just seems to sound really flat.

Any way to fix that?
