Jammin' Oldies 99.5

Any of you remember the Washington DC station, Jammin' Oldies 99.5?

Late 1999, my dad started listening to that station pretty regularly when we were in the car. I started listening to the station myself on the radio when in my bedroom in the early mornings and in the afternoons(before and after school). Heard some of my now, top favorite songs on there between late 1999 and late 2000. Early 2001 it became HOT 99. 5.

'Cruisin'- D'Angelo's Version Over Smokey's

Hey, all. Any of you like D'Angelo's version of 'Cruisin' more than Smokey's(no disrespect to Smokey Robinson)?
I remember I first heard D'Angelo's version in early 2000 on either 93.9 or 95.5(Washington DC stations) and just really dug the chorus. Later, I hear Smokey's original on Jammin' Oldies 99.5. I got excited as I was listening, and when it got to the chorus I was disappointed realizing it wasn't the same version, and it didn't sound quite as enjoyable to my ears.

Moment at Self Checkout.

Interesting interaction yesterday. We have a large self-checkout area and then a sort of mini self-checkout area between the cashier registers and big self checkout. The mini has 4 registers.

I was working that one on Sunday afternoon. There is an older gentleman at one of them. I'm alerted on my phone to check that register he's at. I get there and of course he has up the window that is telling him to wait for an associate. I get there and it is a misscan. He says he didn't misscan anything. Anyways, we get back to the items screen, and there is only one item scanned..even though he has put multiple items into his shopping bag including the one thing scanned. He says he scanned it all. Right when i clicked onto the screen he said(maybe half joking), 'see..you zeroed it all out!'. He goes ahead and takes back the items out of his bag and scans them one by one. I start to leave and go back but he insists i stay and watch him scan each item...which i agreed to. He says for me to do this, since 'I am a thief'(sarcastically said about himself). He is irritated as he is doing this. He scans all the items, about 10 of them, and asks if we're good now. I said yeah, and went back to my stop. I hear whisper, 'pisses me off!'.

After he pays....he comes over to me and puts a hand on my shoulder, saying, paraphrased 'I'm sorry..i know you were just doing your job ....here's my receipt'. He shows uis receipt, and i said 'okay, thank you. Good.' He says, though, that i can go ahead and call the police if i don't believe him or something like that. Of course, i say that there's no need. He leaves.

[TOMT][Police/-CrimeSeries][Early2000s]

Sometime between 2003 and 2006, I saw part of an episode of a certain crime/cop series. One of the officers was an Italian-American(or other darker-skinned European or Latin background), athletic build. In one scene he goes to a gym to investigate something. He is in plain clothes, wearing jeans and a leather jacket. As he comes out he has some words with some guys. One of the bodybuilder type guys grabs him and puts him in a headlock, angrily saying something. The officer gets himself out of the lock, and sucker punches body builder guy, knocking him into the nearby body of water. Can anyone tell me what show this was? Thank you in advance.

Do White Men Generally Prefer Slender Women?

My wife lives in Ghana (never been to the USA, but she will be here soon). We watched a movie together over Zoom. She asks me, 'why do white men prefer slim women?'.

Is this true?

Was emailed ahead of time that this would be a phone screen. It's for a part-time accountant position. First question was... they saw I worked at Avicenna Acctg. and now at Walmart since August 2025. She asked how did that transition happen? I explained that there wasn't much room for growth there, and I stopped working there to study for a security+ certification test. She asked if I would continue working part time for Walmart if I was hired for this position. I first said I most likely would leave Walmart. She mentioned they don't rule out with me working part time at another place like Walmart, but they just wanted to be sure I could be there on site at the office, Mondays and Wednesdays. I then remembered that this is a part time role, and said that I could possibly continue with Walmart part time. I mentioned that part of the time I was at Avicenna(Monday through Friday) I was working at Walmart on Sundays. She responded pretty hopefully to that.
She asked if I would be good with the commute to Arlington. I said yes. I asked what were there remote days, and she said Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
She asked me my experience with doing accounts payables, receivables, and. I mentioned my experience of helping with payroll and that we would calculate the tax amounts that the clients owed for their employees, on SAGE and on Excel(which had the formulas set up in the excel sheets). I mentioned we also did 1099s, and that we would categorize the transactions as contractor payment and they would populate a 1099 list by name under payables that we would send to the clients and ask if the amounts were correct. She asked about my collaboration with senior accountant or with other team members/department to absolve discrepancies. I describe examples of this.

Lastly, she asked what my supervisor would say about me. I mentioned he would say that I was cooperative, and a team player, that I was pretty careful and carefully made sure information was accurate.

It lastShe asked me if I had any questions. I asked about some of the functions that if they were mainly done just for this company, or done for any outside clients. I asked what main program they used for their accounting, and what they used excel and word for(she didn't quite know that since she isn't in the accounting dept.). Lastly I asked about the bank reconciliations, and if we entered them in the form of monthly bank statements.
She explained that interviews would start May 11th and i would interview with the controller and then one other person after that.

Total this lasted 14 minutes. Does it seem to you it went well?

Applied to this position. They emailed me Monday with timeslots for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I replied on Tuesday morning saying that I'd be available during the slot they gave for Thursday. They replied Wednesday morning setting my interview time for 11am.
I join the teams meeting around 10:58am, and the first lady comes on. We greeted.
First thing was she asked me to give my experience in accounting so far. I explained that for 7 years I did bookkeeping for a small acctg. firm, doing monthly bank reconciliations for the various clients of our employer, and after completing a full year of that we would look at the income statements and balance sheets to make sure those align.

The 2nd lady then shows up, though with camera off, so I don't see her.
1st lady says to her, 'you have it from here'. So, 2nd woman asks me what my day to day was like in my last accounting role. I explained to her what I said to the first lady, but a bit more detail saying that I entered this information into SAGE 50. I went on to mention that I also processed 1099s and sent them to our clients (this position also includes doing 1099s). She then asked me if I had experience with data entry. I explained that yes, that last position was a lot of data entry, and that we entered the information from the bank statements by hand into SAGE 50.

They then asked me if I had any questions for them. I asked about their bank reconciliations if they were just for their company or was it for some other clients of the company also? I also asked them how long they had been working with the company (I first slipped up and said, 'you guys', and then changed 'you'). They said no, that it was all internal for their company.

And I mentioned i see they had vendors and customers and just asked like I was confirming, 'we don't enter any bank statements or anything for them, right?' They explained no that it was all internal.

So, they said if I didn't have any more questions, the wanted to thank me for my time. I said that was all. They said I would hear from them in a week or so about any next steps.

Again, this was all about 5 minutes. Is that a bad sign that it was short? I think they did mention at the beginning it was preliminary or something.

Will try to put the some details of the job in a comment below.
