Is Instagram becoming pay-to-play for businesses?
I've been wondering about this lately.
It feels like organic Instagram growth has become much harder for businesses unless they're willing to spend money on ads.
You can spend hours creating Reels, carousels, and Stories, but there's no guarantee they'll reach the people who might actually become customers.
At the same time, businesses that put money behind their content can get reach almost immediately.
I'm not saying organic growth is dead. There are definitely accounts still growing without huge ad budgets.
But I'm starting to wonder whether Instagram is becoming more of a paid distribution platform for businesses than an organic growth platform.
What do you think?
Is organic Instagram marketing still worth the effort for a business in 2026, or do you think paid ads are becoming necessary to get meaningful growth?
