Minimum Waste

I rarely stock the fridge as I am OCD about food waste. I might have more meat in the fridge but normally I cook it when I get home so typically leftovers if that. There is nothing in the crisper and yes the left one is dislodged because of a broken groove and it drives me nuts.

$25 haul, Southern Saskatchewan

Not all food as you can see but was a rare get because those knee support insoles were $5 each (literally bought this type for $25 last year) pillow foam was $1, plate and bowl were roughly $1, all discontinued. The Muslii is usual $8 got for $1 and the fake chicken tenders were $1.5 off weekly discount section that I can freeze. Rice puff 170g bag was 79 cents. Superstore.

Left for the 3rd and last time.

Don't know how I can keep it short but in bullet form I married an older woman with 2 kids and I raised as my own because the bio dad was a drug addict with other issues. Lot of sacrifices but generally it was easier because kids are kids, messy but the wonder of them growing up. That was 6 years until we got a house together and the wife insisted on getting this large shedding dog. I don't have allergies but I never put myself in a situation to clean up fur every day and it is a daily issue. It was supposed to be the daughter's dog and time again we'd have the conversation that if she didn't clean after the dog it would go. My daughter is a slob to this day. After a year of this, so 7 years in we were in I guess a soft separation where we could see other people but still lived together half the time and raised the kids like usual. I got into a relationship and kept it private even when asked. My problem was that at one point I was sleeping with two women but it wasn't like a usual affair. Ultimately I cut a quick divorce leaving the house to wife and planned to leave the country and marry my new partner. But Covid happened and so it was in flux for 2 years.

So I got back together with the wife for about 9 months but I didn't divorce my other partner and kept in touch. The dog continued to be a problem and my wife and daughter continued to be slobs. So I left the country for 15 months to be with my new partner, set up a new life. Now is when I say financially I was usually 60% of income and certainly any savings/big purchases was me. I myself never took on big expenses. At one point, coincidentally when we were in soft separation the wife made more money than me but she saved nothing and spent 30% on smokes and a new car (I've always bought used and did my own work).

In the 15 months I was away the wife lost her job and I effectively paid the mortgage, car payments and even a new set of tires. Her EI covered food and utilities. Because of the children now nearing college and no job prospects in the area I divorced my 2nd partner and came back. Made a significant move for work and stability, now 3 years. Both kids in college, my job is 60% of income.

Nothing changed with dog hair clean up. More pets were acquired, no financial responsibility shown although wife quit smoking and now vapes. She would routinely bring up me leaving for another woman and abandoning and that we had to leave our house she loved (we never sold, it's partly in parents name).

Last few fights she practically told me to pack up and leave. In the real world hotels are expensive and not viable long term so I always just slept on the couch. But I found a cheap but good apartment near my work and took it. She found out and flipped. My offer was I'd still cover entirety of rent.

Been two weeks, kids are there because off school, most trashed it's ever been. I cleaned up kitchen both times I came to take my stuff (she allowed me car while at work since I have no vehicle).

Today I came by to spend a bit of time with my son but he ended up being tired. I made some eggs and hash before leaving. She got back home and complained about vet bills and then how I came buy and ate her food...then over the phone lost her shit I wouldn't pay landlord full rent on a Saturday because banks are closed till Tuesday and my money from savings account won't transfer over till then. My rent at the apartment is on Tuesday and I talked to landlord of the house she's in and he totally understood but she had a fit and then I left it.

To summarize, 15 year relationship. Separated in years 8-9 but civil and co-parenting, I left in year 11 abroad and married to someone else came back in year 12. Spent entire savings moving so kids would settle into college. Everyone is a slob but me, nothing has changed with financial responsibility and current transition is I live in a small apartment, no car, paying her rent while she figures out her situation.

I recognize my mistakes. But I always kept the children's stability in focus and told her several times I stayed because of the children. I have been civil, I don't berate but I comment how I'm usually the one cleaning.

So this is the 3rd time I've left. Kids are 21 & 20 living their own lives. I think in the next 3 years the wife's mentality would be it's just us two but I have to deal with 3 pets I did not bring in and never condoned. And that I'm just too old and tired not to be in a clean state. My 2nd wife was very clean.

And I also want to have my own biological children she cannot provide, would be too old anyway with energy needed. I feel like I've played my role, sacrificed my youth and a lot financially.

I should be free to enjoy my little clean apartment, go to work and the gym for the next year until I no longer pay two rents and can either get a better apartment or save for a place. I don't think I'll engage with a new partner for about a year as I currently have little to offer.

20% of income toward living cost.

In September I will only have 20% of my income going toward living cost. 1 bedroom apartment right beside my work, no car, no debts. Long road, largely helping my ex-wife and kids financially for last 3 years.

Location is Northern Saskatchewan.

I'm intending to actively invest 40%, 20% in savings for car outright and 20% travel. I am on contract 28hrs weekly (4 shifts) with open end on my part, only 5% annual raise but zero chance of losing it next 10 years.

46M, looking to fully retire between 50-55.

Own a remote cottage I may retire to but wouldn't be able to even have a side gig living there would just be in nature. Currently seasonal rental with an agent who handles everything, I only clear 5k a year.

Not knowing the hard numbers, should I still look to retire 50-55 or keep job indefinetly and buy a house close to work?

UPDATE I make 3,700 a month, 45k a year AFTER taxes.

I only have 23k in current savings.

Rank Rocky's Wisdom through 8 films.

Because intellect is relative, especially his lack of education and then CTE.

I think for wisdom he's top in VI then VIII then VII. Those are all post 5 obviously. Then it defaults and III, IV and V go from there. Toss-up between I & II for least but I give II the bottom based on his spending, obvious recovery period (brain does recover after trauma to an extent) and in I he's got quite a bit of mature dialogue he loses in II.

So

VI, VIII, VII, III, IV, V, I, II.

Wildest sentence comparison?

I like that the show takes from real life sentences handed down but in Oz specifically there are some wild ones indeed.

Schibetta's son getting 35, parole in 20 for racketeering, extortion and money laundering is my pick simply by how many murderers have parole well before 20.

Made it to Episode 5 of S1.

I have gone through the posts asking what audience this show is for but the numbers say tens of millions. Likely most in the United States. A little bit about me, I'm a 46 year old male living in Canada but due to previous work spent plenty of time around the US and Europe. I have a son and daughter who are 20 & 21. My daughter got through two episodes, my son and wife tapped out after the first. I kept through first 5.

To me the show is set in an alternate reality of an isolated corner of Los Angeles. The dialogue and stories are unrelatedle for the most part. The character I most understood was Nate but that's not saying much.

Most of the music is very distracting for me but the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. After Episode 3 I tried to focus on story but additional hours still had me expend tremendous effort in viewing.

I watched Oz, Gormenghast and several seasons of AHS. So I'd like to think I have an open mind. Watched thousands of films, some with very disturbing themes like Martyrs, Serbian Film, Inside etc.

This show wasn't more visceral per say, but it's a longer time without (for me) adequate progression to keep watching.

Did anybody feel this way and found it got better?

Lyle vs. Foreman is just other worldly.

I will routinely go on a bender of old fights (I actually rarely watch modern boxing but attend plenty amateur events) and whenever I come back to Lyle-Foreman knowing how strong these guys were it's just a level above. It's been my Top HW fight for years and I'm open to lesser known suggestions.

To clarify it IS due to being a shorter fight but it's not like I don't rewatch distance matches (Holyfield-Bowe II, Holyfield-Foreman).

Judge my buy.

On sale for 40cdn. I joked with the cashiers even if this was bottom of the barrel swill it'd be worth it.
