Advice on pop-ups - always landing both feet too far forward

Hey all

Does anyone have any advice on how to stop popping up with your feet too far forward?

I noticed on film that my back foot tends to land in front of the grip all the time
The front foot also goes a bit too far

It’s been the biggest bottleneck for me as it makes turns difficult, bogging rail easier, and lose of momentum

Anyone have this issue before and fixed it?

Right now, my pop-up is quite “explosive” (I put weight of my arms then consciously move my front foot / knee forward)
I don’t do anything like the “chicken wing”
I am able to create space and look down the line naturally

Unused 35mm film went through checked-baggage screening twice. Ruined?

Hi

I accidentally left about 20 rolls of unused 35mm film in checked baggage across a long international itinerary, then checked it again for a domestic flight. So it likely received at least two hold-baggage scans.

The film ranges from ISO 100–800, mostly color negative, plus some black-and-white.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Were the rolls usable, and how should I test them?

TransNusa 6'6" board bag (Bali to Sumbawa)

Hi - has anyone flown TransNusa from Bali to Sumbawa and were successful in bringing a 6'6"+ board bag?

I noticed that they have a length limit for Comac C909 planes (which is the one for this route) at 5'5"...

How strictly enforced is this? Any alternatives?

Mission 1 Pro floaty case?

Anyone find a Mission 1 pro compatible floaty case?

Thinking about getting Mission 1 pro for a big surf trip, but found that the original floaty doesn’t fit

Streaks on board?

Does anyone know what to make of these streaks on my board?
My guess is from heat?
Looks like cellulite lol

I don’t have any cracks that could let water in. It’s only on the bottom 1/4 of the board and where my backfoot toes would be.

Pressing down on it feels slightly softer than the areas where there are no streaks

I’ve been traveling with it, so it could’ve gotten hot?

Not sure. What do you all think?

Intermediate to Advanced surfing coaches in Bali?

Friends, thanks again for the advice my last posts!

Any good pointers on legitimate intermediate to advanced surf coaches in Bali?
Including video, analysis, potentially out of water training

Yes, I’m aware plenty of surf camps exist with offers
But feel like it’s a gamble and more just guiding rather than technique improvement

I’m considering staying at Padang Padang Surf Camp as it seems they offer legit coaching service, but curious what others found success with.

For reference, I’ll be staying for 4 weeks, headed to Mentawais after, I’m intermediate (turns, cutbacks, pumps; Ulu, Bingin, Balangan I’ve surfed).
Goal is to improve bigger wave catching + turn/carve/roundhouse technique

Thank you!

PS: I could also skip Bali and do like Krui or Sumbawa if anyone has insanely good coaching experiences there

Thinking about Mentawais in Aug / Sept - where to stay?

Friends, thanks for advice on last post!
Think I'm gonna send it to Mentawais for a 1-2 weeks.

Anyone have recommendations on where to stay in the Mentawais in August / Sept?
I'm looking especially for a place that has legit coaching
I'm intermediate wanting to push advanced

Flexible on budget.
I'm thinking staying on land rather than boat, but could be confused otherwise.
Considering Macaronis resort, Mentawai surfcamp, or Kandui resort

What do we think?

Appreciate and value all the help 🙏

intermediate surfer on sabbatical: where would you spend rest of year?

hey all, i’m taking a sabbatical from work and thinking about how to use the time for longer surf trips.

question: if you were an intermediate surfer with a few months free, how would you design the trips?

i’m less focused on picking one perfect base and more interested in what combination of places makes sense when time/logistics are less of a constraint. places where a longer stay, patience, or harder travel actually pays off are especially interesting.

for context, i’ve surfed Sri Lanka, Bali, Lombok, Peru, Nicaragua, San Sebastián / northern Spain, and California. i’m considering Indonesia (Bali / Lombok) for the rest of summer into fall, and potentially Taiwan later in the fall, but i’m open to other ideas.

what i’m optimizing for:

- lots of surf and real progression
- intermediate-friendly waves, with room to push
- places that are worth doing specifically because i have more time
- multiple-location itineraries, not just a single base
- ideally some access to coaching / video analysis along the way
- reasonable setup for living/traveling for a while

if you had this window, would you do a few zones in Indo, Indo + Taiwan, add somewhere else entirely, or structure it in a totally different way?

would love to hear how people would actually sequence a trip like this, especially from anyone who’s done something similar.

no crazy budget constraints

Thank you!
