We studied fish movements to finally add realistic animations to our 2D game. What do you think? [The Fish Corner]

We’re developing a cozy fish shop simulator, so naturally the fish tanks are the heart of the game. Until recently, our fish felt a bit lifeless and their movement was pretty basic. So we went back and completely reworked their animations, studying how real fish swim to make them feel more alive and give the tanks a more lively feeling. What do you think?

Remember those old Facebook fish games? We brought them back with more complexity.

We’ve been working relentlessly on The Fish Corner, a cozy fish shop management game built in the open-source Godot engine.

Everything is hand-drawn, and our artists study real fish movement and behavior to make every species feel alive & realistic.

Even though the game is 2D, we wanted aquariums to have real depth, so we created a tank decoration system where you can build across multiple layers and create your own little underwater worlds.

You run your own fish shop: collect fish, care for them, breed them, and sell them. Fish have different genetics and stats, meaning breeding isn’t just random, you’ll need to pair the right fish together to improve your lines and discover better generations.

There’s still a lot we want to add, but the core systems are finally here. One of our favorite parts has been developing the game together with our Discord playtesters. A lot of features and changes have come directly from community feedback, and we’re continuing to prioritize what players actually want. If you want to join the playtest, visit our Discord, the link is on Steam.

Our demo is part of Steam Next Fest now, we’d love for fellow cozy/management game fans to try it and tell us what you think! 💙🐠

The Fish Corner demo is out now! Build your cozy fish shop and care for your fishes.

Hi everyone!

We’re currently working on The Fish Corner, a cozy aquarium/shopkeeping game where you run your very own local fish shop.

You’ll care for different real-life fish breeds, raise them, and even breed them over generations. Each fish has its own genetics, so through selective breeding you can improve traits and discover better variations.

The game is designed to be played completely at your own pace. You can relax by decorating your tanks, watching your fish swim around while studying or working, or dive deeper into the systems underneath, including a more complex economy, breeding strategies, and shop management.

Some things you can do:

  • Collect and care for different fish species
  • Breed fish with unique genetics and improve traits over generations
  • Build and decorate aquariums with our modular 2.5D tank builder
  • Create cozy natural habitats or carefully designed display tanks
  • Manage your local fish shop and grow your business
  • Experiment with deeper economic systems if you enjoy optimization
  • Leave your aquarium running as a relaxing background companion while you work, study, or unwind

Our goal is to make a game that captures the peaceful feeling of watching an aquarium, but still has enough depth, progression, and replayability for players who love having long-term goals.

The game is still in active development, and we’d really love to hear thoughts from fellow cozy game players, what features you’d enjoy, what you’d love to see in a fishkeeping game, or any feedback you have! 💙
